1 The story of Nehemiah, son of Hacaliah,and it came to pass, in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, when, I, was in Shusan the fortress,
1 As palavras de Neemias, filho de Hacalias. No mês de quisleu, no ano vigésimo, estando eu na cidadela de Susã,
2 that Hanani one of my brethren came, he and certain men out of Judah,so I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
2 veio Hanani, um de meus irmãos, com alguns de Judá; então, lhes perguntei pelos judeus que escaparam e que não foram levados para o exílio e acerca de Jerusalém.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant who are left of the captivity, there in the province, are in great misfortune and reproach, the wall of Jerusalem, is broken down, and, the gates thereof, are burned with fire.
3 Disseram-me: Os restantes, que não foram levados para o exílio e se acham lá na província, estão em grande miséria e desprezo; os muros de Jerusalém estão derribados, e as suas portas, queimadas.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and I mourned certain days,and continued fasting and praying, before the God of the heavens;
4 Tendo eu ouvido estas palavras, assentei-me, e chorei, e lamentei por alguns dias; e estive jejuando e orando perante o Deus dos céus.
5 and said, I beseech thee, O Yahweh God of the heavens, the great and fearful GOD,keeping the covenant and lovingkindness for them who love him and keep his commandments:
5 E disse: ah! Senhor , Deus dos céus, Deus grande e temível, que guardas a aliança e a misericórdia para com aqueles que te amam e guardam os teus mandamentos!
6 Let, I pray thee, thine ears be attentive and thine eyes opento hearken unto the prayer of thy servant-which, I, am praying before thee now, day and night, for the sons of Israel, thy servants,-and making confession concerning the sins of the sons of Israel, which we have committed against thee, both I and the house of my father, have sinned.
6 Estejam, pois, atentos os teus ouvidos, e os teus olhos, abertos, para acudires à oração do teu servo, que hoje faço à tua presença, dia e noite, pelos filhos de Israel, teus servos; e faço confissão pelos pecados dos filhos de Israel, os quais temos cometido contra ti; pois eu e a casa de meu pai temos pecado.
7 We have dealt, very corruptly, against thee,and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes nor the regulations, which thou didst command Moses thy servant.
7 Temos procedido de todo corruptamente contra ti, não temos guardado os mandamentos, nem os estatutos, nem os juízos que ordenaste a Moisés, teu servo.
8 Remember, I pray thee, the word, which thou didst command Moses thy servant, saying,If, ye, are unfaithful, I, will scatter you among the peoples:
8 Lembra-te da palavra que ordenaste a Moisés, teu servo, dizendo: Se transgredirdes, eu vos espalharei por entre os povos;
9 When ye return unto me and keep my commandments and do them, though it should be that ye have been driven out unto the uttermost part of the heavens, from thence, will I gather them, and bring them into the place that I have chosen to make a habitation for my Name there.
9 mas, se vos converterdes a mim, e guardardes os meus mandamentos, e os cumprirdes, então, ainda que os vossos rejeitados estejam pelas extremidades do céu, de lá os ajuntarei e os trarei para o lugar que tenho escolhido para ali fazer habitar o meu nome.
10 They, therefore, are thy servants, and thy people,whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy firm hand.
10 Estes ainda são teus servos e o teu povo que resgataste com teu grande poder e com tua mão poderosa.
11 I beseech thee O My Lord, letI pray theethine ear be attentive unto the prayer of thy servant, and unto the prayer of thy servants who delight to revere thy Name, and oh prosper, I pray thee, thy servant to-day, and grant him compassion before this man. Now, I, was cup-bearer unto the king.
11 Ah! Senhor, estejam, pois, atentos os teus ouvidos à oração do teu servo e à dos teus servos que se agradam de temer o teu nome; concede que seja bem-sucedido hoje o teu servo e dá-lhe mercê perante este homem. Nesse tempo eu era copeiro do rei.
