1 Hear, I pray you, what, Yahweh, is saying,arise thou, maintain thy controversy before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice:
1 Escutem a acusação que o Senhor Deus vai fazer contra o seu povo! Levanta-te, ó Deus, e faze a tua acusação; e que as montanhas e os montes ouçam o que dizes.
2 Hear, ye mountains, the controversy of Yahweh, and ye lasting rocks, the foundations of the earth,for, a controversy, hath Yahweh, with his people, and, with Israel, will he dispute.
2 Ó montanhas, ó alicerces firmes da terra, escutem a acusação que o Pois ele tem uma questão para resolver com o seu povo; ele vai acusar o povo de Israel.
3 O my people! what have I done to thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? Testify thou against me!
3 O Senhor diz: — Meu povo, o que foi que eu fiz de errado? Será que exigi demais de vocês? Respondam!
4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and, out of the house of slaves, I ransomed thee,and I sent before thee, Moses, Aaron and Miriam.
4 Eu os tirei do Egito, salvando-os da escravidão, e enviei Moisés, Arão e Míriam para os guiar pelo deserto.
5 O my people! remember, I pray you, what Balak king of Moab, counseled, and what Balaam son of Beer, answered him,from the Acacias as far as Gilgal, that ye may know the righteousness of Yahweh.
5 Meu povo, lembre dos planos que Balaque, rei de Moabe, fez contra vocês e da resposta que Balaão, filho de Beor, lhe deu. Lembrem de tudo o que aconteceu desde que saíram do acampamento do vale das Acácias até que chegaram à cidade de Gilgal. Não esqueçam nunca as vitórias que eu, o Senhor , consegui.
6 Wherewith, shall I come before Yahweh? bow myself to God on high? Shall I come before him with ascending-sacrifice? with calves of a year old?
6 O que é que eu levarei quando for adorar o Senhor ? O que oferecerei ao Deus Altíssimo? Será que deverei apresentar a Deus bezerros de um ano para serem completamente queimados?
7 Will Yahweh, be pleased, with thousands of rams? with myriads of torrents of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression? the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
7 Será que o Senhor ficará contente se eu oferecer milhares de carneiros ou milhares e milhares de rios de azeite? Será que deverei oferecer o meu filho mais velho como sacrifício para pagar os meus pecados e as minhas maldades?
8 He hath told thee, O son of earth, what is good,what then is, Yahweh, seeking of thee, but, to do justice, to delight in lovingkindness, and humbly to walk with thy God?
8 O Senhor já nos mostrou o que é bom, ele já disse o que exige de nós. O que ele quer é que façamos o que é direito, que amemos uns aos outros com dedicação e que vivamos em humilde obediência ao nosso Deus.
9 The voice of Yahweh, to the city, crieth out, With safety for him who regardeth his name,Hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
9 O Senhor está falando com a cidade de Jerusalém, e os que são sábios ouvem com respeito o que Deus está dizendo. Ele diz: —
10 Even yet, are there, in the house of the lawless one, the treasures of lawlessness,and the scant measureaccurst?
10 Nas casas dos maus há riquezas que eles ajuntaram desonestamente. Eles usam medidas falsas, que eu detesto.
11 Shall I be pure with lawless balances? or with bag of deceitful weights?
11 Como posso perdoar pessoas que usam balanças falsas e pesos falsos?
12 For, her rich men, are full of violence, and, her inhabitants, have spoken falsehood,and, their tongue, is deceitful in their mouth.
12 Em Jerusalém, as pessoas ricas exploram os outros, e todos os seus moradores são mentirosos e trapaceiros.
13 Moreover also, I, have made thee sick with smiting thee,laying thee waste because of thy sins.
13 Por isso, já comecei a castigar vocês; e, por causa dos seus pecados, vou acabar com vocês.
14 Thou, shalt eatand not be satisfied, but be shrunk with hunger within thee,Though thou remove, yet shalt thou not set in safety, and, what thou dost set in safety, to the sword, will I deliver.
14 Vocês não terão comida suficiente e estarão sempre passando fome. Procurarão ajuntar riquezas, mas não poderão guardar nada; e, se guardarem alguma coisa, farei com que seja destruída na guerra.
15 Thou, shalt sow, but shalt not reap,thou, shalt tread the olive, but shalt not anoint thee with oil, also the grape, but shalt not drink the wine.
15 Plantarão, mas não comerão nada; esmagarão as azeitonas, mas não chegarão a usar o azeite; pisarão as uvas, mas não beberão o vinho.
16 For strictly observed are the statutes of Omri, and every doing of the house of Ahab, and ye have walked in their counsels,to the end I may give thee up to desolation, and her inhabitants to hissing, that, the reproach of peoples, ye may bear.
16 Tudo isso vai acontecer porque vocês imitaram os maus costumes e as maldades do rei Onri e do seu filho, o rei Acabe, e seguiram os conselhos deles. Por isso, vou destruir Jerusalém, e todo mundo vai zombar dos moradores da cidade. Vocês serão insultados por todos os povos.
