1 Now, the men of Israel, had sworn in Mizpah, saying,Not a man from among us, shall give his daughter unto Benjamin, to wife.
1 Os filhos de Israel tinham jurado em Masfa, dizendo: Ninguém dentre nós dará sua filha em casamento a um benjaminita.
2 So then the people came to Bethel, and abode there, until the evening, before God,and lifted up their voice, and wept bitterly,
2 Dirigiu-se o povo a Betel, onde ficou até a tarde em presença do Senhor, e levantaram a voz com grandes lamentações:
3 and said, Wherefore, O Yahweh, God of Israel, hath this come about in Israel,that there should be lacking, to-day, out of Israel, one tribe?
3 Por que, diziam eles, ó Senhor, Deus de Israel, aconteceu essa desgraça que nos falte hoje uma tribo de Israel?
4 And it came to pass, on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there, an altar,and offered ascending-sacrifices, and peace-offerings.
4 No dia seguinte pela manhã, o povo levantou naquele lugar um altar, sobre o qual ofereceu holocaustos e sacrifícios pacíficos.
5 And the sons of Israel said, Who was there that came not up, in the convocation, out of all the tribes of Israel, unto Yahweh? For, the great oath, had been taken, as to any who came not up unto Yahweh at Mizpah, sayingHe shall be, put to death.
5 E disseram: Haverá alguém dentre todas as tribos de Israel que não tenha comparecido à assembléia em presença do Eterno? Com efeito, fora pronunciado a seguinte juramento solene contra aquele que não subisse a Masfa junto do Senhor: Será punido de morte.
6 And the sons of Israel grieved for Benjamin, their brother,and they said, There is cut off, to-day, one tribe out of Israel.
6 Os filhos de Israel tiveram pena de Benjamim, seu irmão: Assim, diziam eles, foi hoje uma tribo cortada de Israel?
7 What are we to do for them who remain, for wives,seeing that, we ourselves, have sworn by Yahweh, not to give them of our daughters, for wives?
7 Aonde vamos buscar mulheres para os que restam, pois que juramos pelo Senhor não lhes dar nossas filhas em casamento?
8 So they said, What one of the tribes of Israel is there, that hath not come up unto Yahweh at Mizpah? And lo! no man had come into the camp, out of Jabesh-gilead, unto the convocation:
8 Por isso perguntavam se não havia alguma tribo de Israel que não tivesse subido para o Senhor em Masfa. Ora, ninguém de Jabes em Galaad tinha vindo ao acampamento ou comparecido à assembléia.
9 When the people were numbered, lo! there was not there a man of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead.
9 Fez-se o recenseamento do povo e não se encontrou, com efeito, homem algum de Jabes em Galaad.
10 So the assembly sent thither twelve thousand men, of the sons of valour,and commanded them, saying:Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead, with the edge of the sword, with the women, and the little ones.
10 Então a assembléia enviou para lá doze mil guerreiros valentes com a ordem seguinte: Ide e passai ao fio da espada todos os habitantes de Jabes em Galaad com as mulheres e as crianças.
11 And, this, is the thing that ye shall do,Every male, and every woman that hath cohabited with man, shall ye devote to destruction.
11 Eis como deveis fazer: votareis ao interdito todo homem, bem como toda mulher que se houver deitado com homem.
12 And they foundof the inhabitants of Jabesh-gileadfour hundred young women, virgins, who had not cohabited with man,so they brought them into the camp, at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
12 Encontraram entre os habitantes de Jabes em Galaad quatrocentas moças virgens, que não tinham conhecido varão, e levaram-nas ao acampamento de Silo, na terra de Canaã.
13 Then the whole assembly sent, and spake unto the sons of Benjamin, who were in the cliff Rimmon,and proclaimed to them, peace.
13 Toda a assembléia enviou mensagens de paz aos benjaminitas que tinham se refugiado no rochedo de Remon.
14 So Benjamin returned at that time, and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead,but they found not for them , even so.
14 Voltaram eles para as suas casas, e foram-lhes dadas por mulheres as filhas de Jabes em Galaad que tinham sido poupadas, mas não chegaram para todos.
15 Now, the assembly, had grieved for Benjamin,because Yahweh had made a breach, in the tribes of Israel.
15 O povo teve pena de Benjamim, porque o Senhor tinha feito uma brecha nas tribos de Israel.
16 So then, the elders of the assembly said, What are we to do for them who remain, for wives,for womankind, hath been destroyed out of Benjamin?
16 Os anciãos da assembléia disseram: Que faremos para dar mulheres aos que restam, pois todas as mulheres de Benjamim foram exterminadas?
17 And they said, There is an inheritance for the escaped of Benjamin,and there must not be wiped out, a tribe, out of Israel.
17 E ajuntaram: Fique para Benjamim a herança dos que sobreviveram, para que não seja cortada uma tribo de Israel.
18 Yet, we, may not give them wives, of our own daughters, For the sons of Israel had sworn, saying, Cursed, be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.
18 Mas não podemos dar-lhes nossas filhas em casamento, pois os filhos de Israel lançaram a maldição a todo aquele que desse a sua filha por mulher a um benjaminita.
19 Then said theyLo! the festival of Yahweh in Shiloh, from year to year, Which is on the north of Bethel, towards sunrise, by the highway that goeth up from Bethel, towards Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.
19 E disseram: Eis que se celebra a festa anual do Senhor em Silo {Silo está situada ao norte de Betel, ao oriente do caminho que vai de Betel a Siquém, e ao sul de Lebona}.
20 And they commanded the sons of Benjamin, saying,Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;
20 Depois deram este conselho aos filhos de Benjamim: Ide e escondei-vos nas vinhas.
21 and look, and lo! if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then shall ye come forth out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife, of the daughters of Shiloh,and go your way to the land of Benjamin.
21 Quando virdes as filhas de Silo saírem para dançar em coro, saí de repente das vinhas e cada um tome uma para mulher entre as filhas de Silo; depois disso voltai para a terra de Benjamim.
22 And it shall be, when their fathers, or their brethren, come in to complain to us, that we will say unto themAs a favour to us, grant them, because we took not for each man his wife in the battle,for, ye yourselves, gave them not unto them, so as, now, to be guilty.
22 Quando seus pais ou seus irmãos vierem queixar-se junto de nós, responder-lhes-emos: Deixai-as vir conosco, pois durante a guerra não pudemos tomar uma mulher para cada um. Aliás, não sois vós quem lhas destes, e nem tendes culpa nisso.
23 And the sons of Benjamin did so, and carried off wives, according to their number, of them who were dancing, whom they seized,and they went their way, and returned unto their inheritance, and built the cities, and dwelt therein.
23 Assim fizeram os benjaminitas: tomaram entre as dançarinas mulheres segundo o seu número; tomaram-nas e voltaram para a sua casa. Depois construíram cidades e habitaram nelas.
24 And the sons of Israel at that time went their several ways from thence, every man to his own tribe, and to his own family,yea they went forth from thence, every man to his own inheritance.
24 Voltaram também os israelitas, cada um para a sua tribo e sua família, e para a terra de sua herança.
25 In those days, there was no king in Israel,every man did, that which was right in his own eyes.
25 Naquele tempo não havia rei em Israel, e cada um fazia o que lhe parecia melhor.
