1 Now, the men of Israel, had sworn in Mizpah, saying,Not a man from among us, shall give his daughter unto Benjamin, to wife.
1 Ora, tinham jurado os homens de Israel em Mizpá, dizendo: Nenhum de nós dará sua filha por mulher aos benjamitas.
2 So then the people came to Bethel, and abode there, until the evening, before God,and lifted up their voice, and wept bitterly,
2 Veio, pois, o povo a Betel, e ali ficou até à tarde diante de Deus; e todos levantaram a sua voz, e prantearam com grande pranto,
3 and said, Wherefore, O Yahweh, God of Israel, hath this come about in Israel,that there should be lacking, to-day, out of Israel, one tribe?
3 E disseram: Ah! Senhor Deus de Israel, por que sucedeu isto, que hoje falte uma tribo em Israel?
4 And it came to pass, on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there, an altar,and offered ascending-sacrifices, and peace-offerings.
4 E sucedeu que, no dia seguinte, o povo, pela manhã se levantou, e edificou ali um altar; e ofereceu holocaustos e ofertas pacíficas.
5 And the sons of Israel said, Who was there that came not up, in the convocation, out of all the tribes of Israel, unto Yahweh? For, the great oath, had been taken, as to any who came not up unto Yahweh at Mizpah, sayingHe shall be, put to death.
5 E disseram os filhos de Israel: Quem de todas as tribos de Israel não subiu à assembléia do Senhor? Porque se tinha feito um grande juramento acerca dos que não fossem ao Senhor em Mizpá, dizendo: Morrerá certamente.
6 And the sons of Israel grieved for Benjamin, their brother,and they said, There is cut off, to-day, one tribe out of Israel.
6 E arrependeram-se os filhos de Israel acerca de Benjamim, seu irmão, e disseram: Cortada é hoje de Israel uma tribo.
7 What are we to do for them who remain, for wives,seeing that, we ourselves, have sworn by Yahweh, not to give them of our daughters, for wives?
7 Como havemos de conseguir mulheres para os que restaram deles, pois nós temos jurado pelo Senhor que nenhuma de nossas filhas lhes daríamos por mulher?
8 So they said, What one of the tribes of Israel is there, that hath not come up unto Yahweh at Mizpah? And lo! no man had come into the camp, out of Jabesh-gilead, unto the convocation:
8 E disseram: Há algumas das tribos de Israel que não subiram ao Senhor a Mizpá? E eis que ninguém de Jabes-Gileade viera ao arraial, à assembléia.
9 When the people were numbered, lo! there was not there a man of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead.
9 Porquanto, quando se contou o povo, eis que nenhum dos moradores de Jabes-Gileade se achou ali.
10 So the assembly sent thither twelve thousand men, of the sons of valour,and commanded them, saying:Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead, with the edge of the sword, with the women, and the little ones.
10 Então a assembléia enviou para lá doze mil homens dos mais valentes, e lhes ordenou, dizendo: Ide, e ao fio da espada feri aos moradores de Jabes-Gileade, e às mulheres e aos meninos.
11 And, this, is the thing that ye shall do,Every male, and every woman that hath cohabited with man, shall ye devote to destruction.
11 Porém isto é o que haveis de fazer: A todo o homem e a toda a mulher que se houver deitado com um homem totalmente destruireis.
12 And they foundof the inhabitants of Jabesh-gileadfour hundred young women, virgins, who had not cohabited with man,so they brought them into the camp, at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
12 E acharam entre os moradores de Jabes-Gileade quatrocentas moças virgens, que não tinham conhecido homem; e as trouxeram ao arraial, a Siló, que está na terra de Canaã.
13 Then the whole assembly sent, and spake unto the sons of Benjamin, who were in the cliff Rimmon,and proclaimed to them, peace.
13 Então toda a assembléia enviou, e falou aos filhos de Benjamim, que estavam na penha de Rimom, e lhes proclamou a paz.
14 So Benjamin returned at that time, and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead,but they found not for them , even so.
14 E ao mesmo tempo voltaram os benjamitas; e deram-lhes as mulheres que haviam guardado com vida, das mulheres de Jabes-Gileade; porém estas ainda não lhes bastaram.
15 Now, the assembly, had grieved for Benjamin,because Yahweh had made a breach, in the tribes of Israel.
15 Então o povo se arrependeu por causa de Benjamim; porquanto o Senhor tinha feito brecha nas tribos de Israel.
16 So then, the elders of the assembly said, What are we to do for them who remain, for wives,for womankind, hath been destroyed out of Benjamin?
16 E disseram os anciãos da assembléia: Que faremos acerca de mulheres para os que restaram, pois foram destruídas as mulheres de Benjamim?
17 And they said, There is an inheritance for the escaped of Benjamin,and there must not be wiped out, a tribe, out of Israel.
17 Disseram mais: Tenha Benjamim uma herança nos que restaram, e não seja destruída nenhuma tribo de Israel.
18 Yet, we, may not give them wives, of our own daughters, For the sons of Israel had sworn, saying, Cursed, be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.
18 Porém nós não lhes poderemos dar mulheres de nossas filhas, porque os filhos de Israel juraram, dizendo: Maldito aquele que der mulher aos benjamitas.
19 Then said theyLo! the festival of Yahweh in Shiloh, from year to year, Which is on the north of Bethel, towards sunrise, by the highway that goeth up from Bethel, towards Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.
19 Então disseram: Eis que de ano em ano há solenidade do Senhor em Siló, que se celebra para o norte de Betel do lado do nascente do sol, pelo caminho alto que sobe de Betel a Siquém, e para o sul de Lebona.
20 And they commanded the sons of Benjamin, saying,Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;
20 E mandaram aos filhos de Benjamim, dizendo: Ide, e emboscai-vos nas vinhas.
21 and look, and lo! if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then shall ye come forth out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife, of the daughters of Shiloh,and go your way to the land of Benjamin.
21 E olhai, e eis aí as filhas de Siló a dançar em rodas, saí vós das vinhas, e arrebatai cada um sua mulher das filhas de Siló, e ide-vos à terra de Benjamim.
22 And it shall be, when their fathers, or their brethren, come in to complain to us, that we will say unto themAs a favour to us, grant them, because we took not for each man his wife in the battle,for, ye yourselves, gave them not unto them, so as, now, to be guilty.
22 E será que, quando seus pais ou seus irmãos vierem a litigar conosco, nós lhes diremos: Por amor de nós, tende compaixão deles, pois nesta guerra não tomamos mulheres para cada um deles; porque não lhas destes vós, para que agora ficásseis culpados.
23 And the sons of Benjamin did so, and carried off wives, according to their number, of them who were dancing, whom they seized,and they went their way, and returned unto their inheritance, and built the cities, and dwelt therein.
23 E os filhos de Benjamim o fizeram assim, e levaram mulheres conforme ao número deles, das que arrebataram das rodas que dançavam; e foram-se, e voltaram à sua herança, e reedificaram as cidades, e habitaram nelas.
24 And the sons of Israel at that time went their several ways from thence, every man to his own tribe, and to his own family,yea they went forth from thence, every man to his own inheritance.
24 Também os filhos de Israel partiram dali, cada um para a sua tribo e para a sua família; e saíram dali, cada um para a sua herança.
25 In those days, there was no king in Israel,every man did, that which was right in his own eyes.
25 Naqueles dias não havia rei em Israel; porém cada um fazia o que parecia reto aos seus olhos.
