1 And it came to pass, after the death of Jeshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying,Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
1 Depois que Josué morreu, o povo de Israel perguntou a Deus, o Senhor : — Qual das nossas
2 And Yahweh saidJudah, shall go,lo! I have delivered the land into his power.
2 O Senhor respondeu: — O povo de Judá vai primeiro porque eu lhe dei a terra.
3 Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brotherCome up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
3 Então o povo de Judá disse ao povo de Simeão: — Vamos juntos à terra que nos foi dada e lutemos contra os cananeus. Depois iremos juntos à terra que for dada a vocês. Assim as tribos de Simeão
4 And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand,and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
4 e de Judá foram guerrear juntas. E o Senhor Deus lhes deu a vitória sobre os cananeus e os perizeus, e eles mataram dez mil homens em Bezeque.
5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him,and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
5 Nesse lugar encontraram Adoni-Bezeque e lutaram contra ele. E eles derrotaram os cananeus e os perizeus.
6 But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him,and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
6 Adoni-Bezeque fugiu, mas eles o perseguiram e prenderam. E cortaram os polegares das suas mãos e os dedões dos seus pés.
7 Then said Adoni-bezekSeventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
7 Então Adoni-Bezeque disse: — Eu mandei cortar os polegares das mãos e os dedões dos pés de setenta reis, e eles apanhavam migalhas debaixo da minha mesa. Agora Deus fez comigo o mesmo que eu fiz com eles. Então levaram Adoni-Bezeque para a cidade de Jerusalém, e ele morreu ali.
8 And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword,and, the city, they set on fire.
8 Os homens de Judá atacaram Jerusalém e a conquistaram. Mataram os seus moradores e puseram fogo na cidade.
9 And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites,dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
9 Depois foram lutar contra os cananeus que moravam nas montanhas, no deserto do Sul e nas planícies de Judá.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba,and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
10 Também atacaram os cananeus que moravam na cidade de Hebrom, que antes era chamada de Quiriate-Arba. E venceram Sesai, Aimã e Talmai, que eram filhos de Anaque.
11 And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir,now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
11 Dali marcharam contra os moradores de Debir, que também era chamada de Quiriate-Sefer.
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
12 Então Calebe disse: — Eu darei a minha filha Acsa em casamento ao homem que conseguir tomar Quiriate-Sefer.
13 Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Calebs younger brother, captured it,and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
13 Otoniel conquistou a cidade. Ele era filho de Quenaz, o irmão mais novo de Calebe. Então Calebe lhe deu a sua filha Acsa em casamento.
14 And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto herWhat aileth thee?
14 Quando Acsa foi morar com Otoniel, ela insistiu com ele que pedisse ao pai dela algumas terras. Acsa foi para o lugar onde Calebe estava, e, quando ela desceu do jumento, o seu pai perguntou: — O que é que você quer?
15 And she said unto himGive me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
15 — Eu quero um presente! — respondeu ela. — Já que o senhor me deu uma terra seca, me dê também algumas fontes de água. Então Calebe lhe deu as fontes que ficavam nas terras altas e nas baixas.
16 Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad,so they went and dwelt with the people.
16 Os descendentes do sogro de Moisés, que era queneu, saíram com o povo de Judá e foram de Jericó, a cidade das palmeiras, para o deserto de Judá, que fica ao sul de Arade. E ali viveram com os amalequitas.
17 Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath,and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
17 O povo de Judá e o de Simeão se juntaram e atacaram os cananeus da cidade de Zefate. Em nome de Deus, eles destruíram completamente a cidade e mudaram o seu nome para Horma .
18 And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof,and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
18 Eles não tomaram Gaza, Asquelom e Ecrom e os seus territórios vizinhos.
19 And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country,but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
19 O Senhor Deus ajudou o povo de Judá, e eles conquistaram a região das montanhas. Mas não puderam expulsar os moradores do litoral porque estes tinham carros de ferro.
20 So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses,and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
20 Como Moisés havia mandado, a cidade de Hebrom foi dada a Calebe. E ele pôs para fora dali os três filhos de Anaque.
21 But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out,but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
21 Mas o povo da tribo de Benjamim não expulsou os jebuseus que moravam na cidade de Jerusalém. E os jebuseus dali vivem com o povo de Benjamim até hoje .
22 Then went up the house of Josephthey also,unto Bethel,and, Yahweh, was with them.
22 — ausente —
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel,now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.
23 — ausente —
24 So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city,and they said unto himShew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
24 estes viram um homem que ia saindo e lhe disseram: — Como podemos entrar na cidade? Diga, e não mataremos você.
25 And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword,but, the man and all his family, they let go.
25 Então ele mostrou a entrada. Eles entraram e mataram todos os moradores da cidade, menos aquele homem e toda a sua família.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites,and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.
26 Então ele foi para a terra dos heteus, construiu ali uma cidade e lhe deu o nome de Luz. E esse é o seu nome até hoje .
27 But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns,but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;
27 A tribo de Manassés não expulsou o povo que morava nas cidades de Bete-Sã, Taanaque, Dor, Ibleão, Megido e nos seus povoados. Os cananeus continuaram a viver nelas.
28 when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute,though they, dispossessed, them not.
28 Quando os israelitas ficaram mais fortes, obrigaram os cananeus a trabalhar para eles, mas não expulsaram todos.
29 And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer,so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.
29 A tribo de Efraim não expulsou os cananeus que moravam na cidade de Gezer, e assim os cananeus ficaram vivendo ali com eles.
30 Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol,but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.
30 A tribo de Zebulom não expulsou o povo que vivia nas cidades de Quitrom e Naalol. Os cananeus viveram com eles, mas eram obrigados a trabalhar para eles.
31 Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon,nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
31 A tribo de Aser não expulsou o povo que vivia nas cidades de Aco, Sidom, Alabe, Aczibe, Helba, Afeca e Reobe.
32 but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land,for they dispossessed them not.
32 O povo de Aser viveu com os cananeus que moravam ali, pois eles não tinham sido expulsos.
33 Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land,and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
33 A tribo de Naftali não expulsou o povo que morava nas cidades de Bete-Semes e Bete-Anate. Os cananeus viveram com o povo de Naftali, mas eram obrigados a trabalhar para eles.
34 And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country,for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
34 Os amorreus forçaram a tribo de Dã a se retirar para as montanhas e não os deixavam descer ao vale.
35 and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.
35 Os amorreus ficaram vivendo nas montanhas de Heres, em Aijalom e em Saalabim, mas o povo da tribo de José os dominou e os forçou a trabalhar para eles.
36 And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
36 As terras dos amorreus começavam na subida do Escorpião e em Sela e iam na direção norte.
