1 Oh that my head were waters, And mine eyes a fountain of tears,That I might weep day and night, For the slain of the daughter of my people!
1 Eu gostaria que a minha cabeça fosse como um poço de água e que os meus olhos fossem como uma fonte de lágrimas, para que eu pudesse chorar dia e noite pela minha gente que foi morta.
2 Oh that I had in the wilderness, a wayfarers lodge, That I might leave my people, and go from them,For they all, are Adulterers, An assemblage of traitors;
2 Eu gostaria de ter um lugar para ficar no deserto, onde pudesse estar longe do meu povo. Todos eles são adúlteros, são um bando de traidores.
3 Who have prepared e their tongue as their bow of falsehood, And, not by faithfulness, have they become mighty in the land,For from wickedness unto wickedness, have they gone forth, But me, have they not known, Declareth Yahweh.
3 Estão sempre prontos para contar mentiras. O que manda na terra é a desonestidade, e não a verdade. O “O meu povo faz maldade em cima de maldade e não quer saber de mim.”
4 Every one, of his neighbour, beware ye, And in no brother, may ye trust,For, every brother, supplanteth! And every neighbour, as a tale-bearer, goeth about;
4 Cada um precisa estar prevenido contra o seu amigo, e ninguém pode confiar no próprio irmão porque todo irmão é tão falso como Jacó. Todos andam caluniando os seus amigos.
5 Yea, every one, of his neighbour, maketh a dupe, And, truth, they do not speak,They have taught their tongue to speak falsehood, In acting perversely, they have wearied themselves.
5 Todos eles enganam os seus conhecidos, e ninguém fala a verdade. Eles ensinaram a sua língua a mentir; pecam e não abandonam a sua vida de pecado.
6 Thy dwelling, is in the midst of deceit,Through deceit, have they rejected the knowledge of, me, Declareth Yahweh.
6 Fazem uma violência atrás da outra e tapeação em cima de tapeação. Deus diz que este povo não quer aceitá-lo.
7 Therefore, thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Behold me! melting them, so will I try them,For how else should I do because of the wickedness of the daughter of my people?
7 Por causa disso, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso diz: “Vou purificar o meu povo como se faz com o metal; eu o farei passar por uma prova. O meu povo fez o mal — o que é que eu posso fazer com ele?
8 A pointed arrow, is their tongue Deceit, hath it spoken,With his mouth peace unto his neighbour, doth one speak, But within himself, he layeth his ambush.
8 A sua língua é como uma flecha envenenada, e a sua boca fala mentiras. Cada um diz palavras amáveis ao seu vizinho, mas na verdade está preparando uma armadilha para ele.
9 For these things, shall I not bring punishment on them? Demandeth Yahweh,On a nation such as this, must not my soul avenge herself!
9 Será que eu não devo castigá-los por causa dessas coisas? Não devo me vingar de uma nação como esta? Eu, o
10 Over the mountains, will I take up a weeping and wailing, And over the oases of the desert, a dirge, For they have been burned, so that no man passeth through, Neither have men heard the lowing of cattle,Both the bird of the heavens and the beast have fled, have gone their way:
10 Eu, Jeremias, disse: “Vou chorar por causa das montanhas, vou lamentar porque as pastagens estão secas, e ninguém passa por elas. Não se ouve mais o mugido do gado; as aves e os animais selvagens fugiram e foram embora.”
11 Thus will I give up Jerusalem To heaps, A habitation for jackals,And the cities of Judah, will I give up to desolation, without inhabitant.
11 Deus disse: “Vou fazer Jerusalém virar um montão de pedras, um lugar onde moram lobos. E as cidades de Judá se transformarão num deserto onde ninguém mora.”
12 Who, is the man that is wise That he may discern this? And, unto whom, hath the mouth of Yahweh spoken, That he may declare it? For what cause Hath the land perished, Hath it been burned as a wilderness that no man passeth through?
12 Eu perguntei: — Ó
13 Then said Yahweh,Because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them,And have not hearkened to hay voice neither walked therein;
13 E o Senhor respondeu: — Isso aconteceu porque o meu povo abandonou os ensinamentos que eu lhe dei. Eles não me obedeceram, nem fizeram o que mandei.
14 But have gone their way, After the stubbornness of their own heart,And after the Baals which their fathers taught them,
14 Pelo contrário, foram teimosos e adoraram as imagens do deus Baal , como os pais deles ensinaram.
15 Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh of hosts, The God of Israel, Behold me! Feeding them, even this people, with wormwood,And I will cause them to drink, poisoned water;
15 Agora, escute o que eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, vou fazer. Darei ao meu povo plantas amargas para comer e água envenenada para beber.
16 And will scatter them among the nations, which neither they nor their fathers, have known,And will send after them the sword, until I have consumed them.
16 Espalharei o meu povo pelo meio de nações que nem eles nem os seus antepassados sabiam que existiam. Mandarei exércitos contra o meu povo, até que seja completamente destruído.
17 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Consider ye diligently and call for the wailing women that they may come,And unto the wise women, send ye, that they may come;
17 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso disse: “Atenção! Chamem mulheres que são pagas para chorar, mulheres que saibam cantar músicas tristes.”
18 Yea let them make haste, and lift up over us a wailing,That our eyes, may run down, with tears, And, our eyelashes, stream down with water;
18 O povo disse: “Que elas venham depressa e cantem uma canção triste para nós para que os nossos olhos se encham de lágrimas e fiquem molhados de tanto chorar!”
19 Yea, a voice of wailing, hath been heard out of Zion How are we ruined! We have turned very pale For we have left the land, For they have cast down our habitations.
19 Ouçam o povo de Sião chorando e dizendo: “Estamos perdidos! Estamos muito envergonhados! As nossas casas foram derrubadas, e temos de deixar a nossa terra.”
20 For hear O ye women the word of Yahweh, And let your ear take in the word of his mouth,And teach your daughters a wail, Yea leach womanher neighbour, a dirge:
20 Eu disse: “Mulheres, ouçam o que o e deem atenção às suas palavras. Ensinem as suas filhas a chorar; ensinem as suas amigas a cantar canções tristes.
21 That death Hath come up through our windows, Hath entered our palaces,Cutting off The boy from the street, The young men from the broadways.
21 A morte subiu pelas nossas janelas e entrou nos nossos palácios. Acabou com as crianças nas ruas e com os moços nas praças dos mercados.
22 Speak thou, Thus, declareth Yahweh, So shall fall the dead bodies of men, Like dung heaps on the face of the field,And like swaths after the harvestman, With none to gather.
22 Os corpos dos mortos cairão, serão como esterco espalhado nos campos, como espigas cortadas e caídas das mãos dos que fazem a colheita, espigas que ninguém recolhe. Isso é o que Deus me mandou dizer.”
23 Thus, saith Yahweh Let not, the wise man, glory in his wisdom, Neither let, the mighty man, glory, in his might,Let not, the rich man, glory in his riches;
23 O Senhor disse: — O sábio não deve se orgulhar da sua sabedoria, nem o forte, da sua força, nem o rico, da sua riqueza.
24 But, in this, let the glorying one gloryIn having intelligence and in knowing me, That, I, am Yahweh, Executing lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth,That in these things, I delight Declareth Yahweh.
24 Se alguém quiser se orgulhar, que se orgulhe de me conhecer e de me entender; porque eu, o Senhor , sou Deus de amor e faço o que é justo e direito no mundo. Estas são as coisas que me agradam. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando. — Está chegando o tempo em que vou castigar o povo do Egito, de Judá, de Edom, de Amom, de Moabe e todos os que vivem no deserto e costumam cortar o cabelo bem curto . Todos esses povos são
25 Lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh,When I will bring punishment upon every one circumcised, With him that is uncircumcised:

26 Upon Egypt and upon Judah, And upon Edom, and upon the sons of Ammon, And upon Moab, And upon all the clipped beards, The dwellers in the desert,For, all the nations, are uncircumcised, And, all the house of Israel, are uncircumcised in heart.
