1 So Jacob dwelt in the land of the sojournings of his father,in the land of Canaan.
1 Jacó passou a morar na terra de Canaã, onde seu pai tinha vivido como estrangeiro.
2 These, are the generations of JacobJoseph, when seventeen years old, was shepherding with his brethren among the flocks, and, he, being a youth, was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah wives of his father,so then Joseph brought in the talk about themsomething bad, unto their father.
2 Este é o relato de Jacó e sua família. Quando José tinha 17 anos, cuidava dos rebanhos de seu pai. Trabalhava com seus meios-irmãos, os filhos de Bila e Zilpa, mulheres de seu pai, e contava para seu pai algumas das coisas erradas que seus irmãos faziam.
3 Now, Israel, loved Joseph more than any of his sons, because he was to him, the son of his old age, and he had made him, a long tunic.
3 Jacó amava José mais que a qualquer outro de seus filhos, pois José havia nascido quando Jacó era idoso. Por isso, certo dia Jacó encomendou um presente especial para José: uma linda túnica.
4 So his brethren saw that their father loved him, more than any of his brethren, and they hated him, and could not bid him prosper,
4 Os irmãos de José, por sua vez, o odiavam, pois o pai deles o amava mais que a todos os outros filhos. Não eram capazes de lhe dizer uma única palavra amigável.
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brethren, and they went on yet more to hate him.
5 Certa noite, José teve um sonho e, quando o contou a seus irmãos, eles o odiaram ainda mais.
6 And he said unto them, Hear ye I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
6 “Ouçam este sonho que tive”, disse ele.
7 Lo! then, we, were binding sheaves in the midst of the field, when lo my sheaf rose up, yea and took its stand,and lo! round about came your sheaves, and bowed themselves down to my sheaf.
7 “Estávamos no campo, amarrando feixes de trigo. De repente, meu feixe se levantou e ficou em pé, e seus feixes se juntaram ao redor do meu e se curvaram diante dele!”
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou, reign, over us, shalt thou, have dominion over us? So they went on yet more to hate him, because of his dreams and because of his words.
8 Seus irmãos responderam: “Você imagina que será nosso rei? Pensa mesmo que nos governará?”. E o odiaram ainda mais por causa de seus sonhos e da maneira como os contava.
9 Then dreamed he, yet another, dream, and related it to his brethren, and said:Lo! I have dreamed a dream, yet again, Lo! then, the sun and the moon, and eleven stars, were bowing themselves down to me.
9 Pouco tempo depois, José teve outro sonho e, mais uma vez, contou-o a seus irmãos. “Ouçam, tive outro sonho”, disse ele. “O sol, a lua e onze estrelas se curvavam diante de mim!”
10 So he related it unto his father, and unto his brethren,and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream which thou hast dreamed? Shall we, indeed come in, I, and thy mother and thy brethren, to bow our-selves down to thee to the earth?
10 Dessa vez, contou o sonho não apenas aos irmãos, mas também ao pai, que o repreendeu, dizendo: “Que sonho é esse? Por acaso eu, sua mãe e seus irmãos viremos e nos curvaremos até o chão diante de você?”.
11 Then were his brethren jealous of him, but his father, marked the word.
11 Os irmãos de José ficaram com inveja dele, mas seu pai se perguntou qual seria o significado dos sonhos.
12 Now his brethren went their way,to feed their fathers flock in Shechem.
12 Pouco depois, os irmãos de José levaram os rebanhos de seu pai para pastar junto de Siquém.
13 So Israel said unto Joseph Are not, thy brethren, feeding the flock in Shechem? Come on! and let me send thee unto them. And he said to him Behold me!
13 Então Jacó disse a José: “Seus irmãos estão cuidando das ovelhas em Siquém. Apronte-se, e eu o enviarei até eles”. “Estou pronto para ir”, respondeu José.
14 So he said to himGo, I pray thee, look after the welfare of thy brethren, and the welfare of the flock, and bring me back word. And he sent him from the vale of Hebron, and he came in towards Shechem.
14 “Vá ver como estão seus irmãos e os rebanhos”, disse Jacó. “E traga-me notícias deles.” Jacó o enviou, e José viajou de sua casa no vale de Hebrom até Siquém.
15 And a man found him, and to! he was wandering about in the field, so the man asked him sayingWhat seekest thou?
15 Quando José chegou a Siquém, um homem da região notou que ele andava perdido pelos campos. “O que você está procurando?”, perguntou o homem.
16 And he said, My brethren, am, I, seeking,do tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding their flock.
16 “Estou procurando meus irmãos”, respondeu José. “O senhor sabe onde eles estão cuidando dos rebanhos?”
17 And the man said, They have broken up from hence, for I heard them saying Let us go our way towards Dothan. So Joseph went after his brethren, and found them, in Dothan.
17 O homem lhe disse: “Sim, eles foram embora daqui, mas eu os ouvi dizer: ‘Vamos a Dotã’”. Então José foi atrás de seus irmãos e os encontrou em Dotã.
18 And they saw him afar off,and, ere yet he drew near unto them, they conspired against him, to put him to death.
18 Quando os irmãos de José o viram, o reconheceram de longe. Antes que ele se aproximasse, planejaram uma forma de matá-lo.
19 And they said each man unto his brother, Lo! that master of dreams yonder, coming in!
19 “Lá vem o sonhador!”, disseram uns aos outros.
20 Now, therefore, come! let us slay him and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say A cruel beast, hath devoured him,And let us see what will become of his dreams.
20 “Vamos matá-lo e jogá-lo numa dessas cisternas. Diremos a nosso pai: ‘Um animal selvagem o devorou’. Então veremos o que será dos seus sonhos!”
21 And Reuben heard it, and rescued him out of their hand, and said Let us not smite him, so as to take his life!
21 Mas, quando Rúben ouviu o plano, tratou de livrar José. “Não o matemos”, disse ele.
22 And Reuben said unto them Do not shed blood! Cast him into this pit, which is in the wilderness, but put not forth, a hand, against him! that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him unto his father.
22 “Por que derramar sangue? Joguem-no nesta cisterna vazia aqui no deserto e não toquemos nele.” Rúben planejava resgatar José e levá-lo de volta ao pai.
23 So it came to pass, when Joseph had come in unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph of his tunic, the long tunic which was upon him,
23 Assim, quando José chegou, os irmãos lhe arrancaram a linda túnica que ele estava usando,
24 and took him, and cast him into the pit, but the pit, was empty, there was in it no water.
24 o agarraram e o jogaram na cisterna vazia, ou seja, sem água.
25 And when they had sat down to eat bread, they lifted up their eyes and looked, and lo! a caravan of Ishmaelites, coming in from Gilead,and, their camels, were bearing tragacanth gum, and balsam and cistus-gum, they were going their way, to take them down to Egypt.
25 Mais tarde, quando se sentaram para comer, viram ao longe uma caravana de camelos vindo em sua direção. Era um grupo de negociantes ismaelitas, que transportavam especiarias, bálsamo e mirra de Gileade para o Egito.
26 So Judah said unto his brethren,What profit that we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?
26 Judá disse a seus irmãos: “O que ganharemos se matarmos nosso irmão e encobrirmos o crime?
27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites; but let not, out own hand, be upon him, for our own brother, our own flesh, is he And his brethren hearkened.
27 Em vez de matá-lo, vamos vendê-lo aos negociantes ismaelitas. Afinal, ele é nosso irmão, sangue do nosso sangue!”. Seus irmãos concordaram.
28 And there passed by certain Midianites travelling merchants, so they drew forth and uplifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites, for twenty pieces of silver,and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
28 Então, quando os ismaelitas, que eram negociantes midianitas, se aproximaram, os irmãos de José o tiraram da cisterna e o venderam para eles por vinte peças de prata. E os negociantes o levaram para o Egito.
29 And Reuben returned unto the pit, and lo Joseph was not in the pit, so he rent his clothes;
29 Algum tempo depois, Rúben voltou para tirar José da cisterna. Quando descobriu que seu irmão não estava lá, rasgou as roupas.
30 and returned unto his brethren, and said,The, lad, is not! And, I, oh where can I, go?
30 Voltou a seus irmãos e lamentou-se: “O menino sumiu! E agora, o que farei?”.
31 And they took Josephs tunic,and slaughtered a buck of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood;
31 Então os irmãos mataram um bode e mergulharam a túnica de José no sangue do animal.
32 and sent the long tunic and brought it in unto their father, and said This, have we found! Examine, we pray thee, whether it is the tunic of thy son, or not!
32 Enviaram a linda túnica para o pai, com a seguinte mensagem: “Veja o que encontramos. Não é a túnica de seu filho?”.
33 So he examined it, and saidThe tunic of my son! A cruel beast hath devoured him,torn in piecestorn in pieces, is Joseph!
33 O pai a reconheceu de imediato e disse: “Sim, é a túnica de meu filho. Um animal selvagem o deve ter devorado. Com certeza José morreu despedaçado!”.
34 And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins,and mourned over his son many days.
34 Jacó rasgou suas roupas e vestiu-se de pano de saco. Por longo tempo, lamentou profundamente a morte do filho.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to console him but he refused to be consoled, and saidSurely I will go down unto my son mourning to hades! And his father wept for him.
35 A família toda tentou consolá-lo, mas ele se recusava. “Descerei à sepultura lamentando a morte de meu filho”, dizia, e continuou a lamentar-se.
36 Now, the Midianites, sold him into Egypt,to Potiphar courtier of Pharaoh, chief of the royal executioners.
36 Enquanto isso, os negociantes midianitas chegaram ao Egito, onde venderam José a Potifar, oficial e capitão da guarda do faraó.
