1 So Jacob dwelt in the land of the sojournings of his father,in the land of Canaan.
1 Habitou Jacó na terra das peregrinações de seu pai, na terra de Canaã.
2 These, are the generations of JacobJoseph, when seventeen years old, was shepherding with his brethren among the flocks, and, he, being a youth, was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah wives of his father,so then Joseph brought in the talk about themsomething bad, unto their father.
2 Esta é a história de Jacó. Tendo José dezessete anos, apascentava os rebanhos com seus irmãos; sendo ainda jovem, acompanhava os filhos de Bila e os filhos de Zilpa, mulheres de seu pai; e trazia más notícias deles a seu pai.
3 Now, Israel, loved Joseph more than any of his sons, because he was to him, the son of his old age, and he had made him, a long tunic.
3 Ora, Israel amava mais a José que a todos os seus filhos, porque era filho da sua velhice; e fez-lhe uma túnica talar de mangas compridas.
4 So his brethren saw that their father loved him, more than any of his brethren, and they hated him, and could not bid him prosper,
4 Vendo, pois, seus irmãos que o pai o amava mais que a todos os outros filhos, odiaram-no e já não lhe podiam falar pacificamente.
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brethren, and they went on yet more to hate him.
5 Teve José um sonho e o relatou a seus irmãos; por isso, o odiaram ainda mais.
6 And he said unto them, Hear ye I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
6 Pois lhes disse: Rogo-vos, ouvi este sonho que tive:
7 Lo! then, we, were binding sheaves in the midst of the field, when lo my sheaf rose up, yea and took its stand,and lo! round about came your sheaves, and bowed themselves down to my sheaf.
7 Atávamos feixes no campo, e eis que o meu feixe se levantou e ficou em pé; e os vossos feixes o rodeavam e se inclinavam perante o meu.
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou, reign, over us, shalt thou, have dominion over us? So they went on yet more to hate him, because of his dreams and because of his words.
8 Então, lhe disseram seus irmãos: Reinarás, com efeito, sobre nós? E sobre nós dominarás realmente? E com isso tanto mais o odiavam, por causa dos seus sonhos e de suas palavras.
9 Then dreamed he, yet another, dream, and related it to his brethren, and said:Lo! I have dreamed a dream, yet again, Lo! then, the sun and the moon, and eleven stars, were bowing themselves down to me.
9 Teve ainda outro sonho e o referiu a seus irmãos, dizendo: Sonhei também que o sol, a lua e onze estrelas se inclinavam perante mim.
10 So he related it unto his father, and unto his brethren,and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream which thou hast dreamed? Shall we, indeed come in, I, and thy mother and thy brethren, to bow our-selves down to thee to the earth?
10 Contando-o a seu pai e a seus irmãos, repreendeu-o o pai e lhe disse: Que sonho é esse que tiveste? Acaso, viremos, eu e tua mãe e teus irmãos, a inclinar-nos perante ti em terra?
11 Then were his brethren jealous of him, but his father, marked the word.
11 Seus irmãos lhe tinham ciúmes; o pai, no entanto, considerava o caso consigo mesmo.
12 Now his brethren went their way,to feed their fathers flock in Shechem.
12 E, como foram os irmãos apascentar o rebanho do pai, em Siquém,
13 So Israel said unto Joseph Are not, thy brethren, feeding the flock in Shechem? Come on! and let me send thee unto them. And he said to him Behold me!
13 perguntou Israel a José: Não apascentam teus irmãos o rebanho em Siquém? Vem, enviar-te-ei a eles. Respondeu-lhe José: Eis-me aqui.
14 So he said to himGo, I pray thee, look after the welfare of thy brethren, and the welfare of the flock, and bring me back word. And he sent him from the vale of Hebron, and he came in towards Shechem.
14 Disse-lhe Israel: Vai, agora, e vê se vão bem teus irmãos e o rebanho; e traze-me notícias. Assim, o enviou do vale de Hebrom, e ele foi a Siquém.
15 And a man found him, and to! he was wandering about in the field, so the man asked him sayingWhat seekest thou?
15 E um homem encontrou a José, que andava errante pelo campo, e lhe perguntou: Que procuras?
16 And he said, My brethren, am, I, seeking,do tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding their flock.
16 Respondeu: Procuro meus irmãos; dize-me: Onde apascentam eles o rebanho?
17 And the man said, They have broken up from hence, for I heard them saying Let us go our way towards Dothan. So Joseph went after his brethren, and found them, in Dothan.
17 Disse-lhe o homem: Foram-se daqui, pois ouvi-os dizer: Vamos a Dotã. Então, seguiu José atrás dos irmãos e os achou em Dotã.
18 And they saw him afar off,and, ere yet he drew near unto them, they conspired against him, to put him to death.
18 De longe o viram e, antes que chegasse, conspiraram contra ele para o matar.
19 And they said each man unto his brother, Lo! that master of dreams yonder, coming in!
19 E dizia um ao outro: Vem lá o tal sonhador!
20 Now, therefore, come! let us slay him and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say A cruel beast, hath devoured him,And let us see what will become of his dreams.
20 Vinde, pois, agora, matemo-lo e lancemo-lo numa destas cisternas; e diremos: Um animal selvagem o comeu; e vejamos em que lhe darão os sonhos.
21 And Reuben heard it, and rescued him out of their hand, and said Let us not smite him, so as to take his life!
21 Mas Rúben, ouvindo isso, livrou-o das mãos deles e disse: Não lhe tiremos a vida.
22 And Reuben said unto them Do not shed blood! Cast him into this pit, which is in the wilderness, but put not forth, a hand, against him! that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him unto his father.
22 Também lhes disse Rúben: Não derrameis sangue; lançai-o nesta cisterna que está no deserto, e não ponhais mão sobre ele; isto disse para o livrar deles, a fim de o restituir ao pai.
23 So it came to pass, when Joseph had come in unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph of his tunic, the long tunic which was upon him,
23 Mas, logo que chegou José a seus irmãos, despiram-no da túnica, a túnica talar de mangas compridas que trazia.
24 and took him, and cast him into the pit, but the pit, was empty, there was in it no water.
24 E, tomando-o, o lançaram na cisterna, vazia, sem água.
25 And when they had sat down to eat bread, they lifted up their eyes and looked, and lo! a caravan of Ishmaelites, coming in from Gilead,and, their camels, were bearing tragacanth gum, and balsam and cistus-gum, they were going their way, to take them down to Egypt.
25 Ora, sentando-se para comer pão, olharam e viram que uma caravana de ismaelitas vinha de Gileade; seus camelos traziam arômatas, bálsamo e mirra, que levavam para o Egito.
26 So Judah said unto his brethren,What profit that we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?
26 Então, disse Judá a seus irmãos: De que nos aproveita matar o nosso irmão e esconder-lhe o sangue?
27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites; but let not, out own hand, be upon him, for our own brother, our own flesh, is he And his brethren hearkened.
27 Vinde, vendamo-lo aos ismaelitas; não ponhamos sobre ele a mão, pois é nosso irmão e nossa carne. Seus irmãos concordaram.
28 And there passed by certain Midianites travelling merchants, so they drew forth and uplifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites, for twenty pieces of silver,and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
28 E, passando os mercadores midianitas, os irmãos de José o alçaram, e o tiraram da cisterna, e o venderam por vinte siclos de prata aos ismaelitas; estes levaram José ao Egito.
29 And Reuben returned unto the pit, and lo Joseph was not in the pit, so he rent his clothes;
29 Tendo Rúben voltado à cisterna, eis que José não estava nela; então, rasgou as suas vestes.
30 and returned unto his brethren, and said,The, lad, is not! And, I, oh where can I, go?
30 E, voltando a seus irmãos, disse: Não está lá o menino; e, eu, para onde irei?
31 And they took Josephs tunic,and slaughtered a buck of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood;
31 Então, tomaram a túnica de José, mataram um bode e a molharam no sangue.
32 and sent the long tunic and brought it in unto their father, and said This, have we found! Examine, we pray thee, whether it is the tunic of thy son, or not!
32 E enviaram a túnica talar de mangas compridas, fizeram-na levar a seu pai e lhe disseram: Achamos isto; vê se é ou não a túnica de teu filho.
33 So he examined it, and saidThe tunic of my son! A cruel beast hath devoured him,torn in piecestorn in pieces, is Joseph!
33 Ele a reconheceu e disse: É a túnica de meu filho; um animal selvagem o terá comido, certamente José foi despedaçado.
34 And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins,and mourned over his son many days.
34 Então, Jacó rasgou as suas vestes, e se cingiu de pano de saco, e lamentou o filho por muitos dias.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to console him but he refused to be consoled, and saidSurely I will go down unto my son mourning to hades! And his father wept for him.
35 Levantaram-se todos os seus filhos e todas as suas filhas, para o consolarem; ele, porém, recusou ser consolado e disse: Chorando, descerei a meu filho até à sepultura. E de fato o chorou seu pai.
36 Now, the Midianites, sold him into Egypt,to Potiphar courtier of Pharaoh, chief of the royal executioners.
36 Entrementes, os midianitas venderam José no Egito a Potifar, oficial de Faraó, comandante da guarda.
