1 Then heard he the words of the sons of Laban, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that belonged to our father; Yea out of what belonged to our father, hath he made all this wealth.
1 Jacó ouviu as palavras dos filhos de Labão, que diziam: "Jacó tomou tudo o que é de nosso pai, e é às suas custas que ele se tornou de tal forma rico."
2 And Jacob looked upon the face of Laban,and lo! it was not with him as afore-time.
2 Observou também, pela fisionomia de Labão, que este não tinha mais para com ele os sentimentos de antes.
3 Then said Yahweh unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers and to thy kindred,that I may be with thee.
3 O Senhor disse a Jacó: "Volta para a terra dos teus pais, para a tua parentela, e eu estarei contigo."
4 So Jacob sent, and called for Rachel and for Leah, to the field unto his flock;
4 Então Jacó mandou Raquel e Lia vir ao campo junto dos seus rebanhos:
5 and said to them, Beholding, am I the face of your father, that it is not towards me as aforetime,nevertheless, the God of my father, hath been with me;
5 "Vejo, disse-lhes ele, pelo semblante de vosso pai, que ele não é mais para comigo o mesmo que antes. Mas o Deus de meu pai está comigo.
6 and, ye, know that with all my vigour, have I served your father.
6 Sabeis que servi a vosso pai o melhor que pude,
7 But, your father, hath deceived me, and hath changed my wages ton times,yet God hath not suffered him to deal harmfully with me.
7 enquanto ele zombou de mim, mudando dez vezes o meu salário; mas Deus não lhe permitiu causar-me prejuízo.
8 If thus he saith, The speckled, shall be thy wages, then do all the flock bring forth speckled,But if thus he saith, The ring-straked, shall be thy wages, then do all the flock bring forth ring-straked.
8 Quando ele dizia: os animais malhados serão o teu salário, todas as ovelhas davam à luz cordeiros malhados, e se dizia: os animais riscados serão o teu salário, todas as ovelhas davam à luz cordeiros riscados.
9 So hath God stripped away the herds of your father, and given them to me.
9 Foi Deus mesmo que tomou o rebanho de vosso pai para me dar.
10 And it came to pass in the season when the flock were in heat, then lifted I mine eyes and beheld in a dream,and lo! the he-goats that were leaping upon the flock, were ring-straked speckled and dappled.
10 No tempo em que os animais deviam conceber, eu levantava os olhos e via em sonhos que os bodes que cobriam as cabras eram listados, malhados e manchados.
11 And the messenger of God said unto me in a dream, Jacob! and I said, Behold me!
11 Um anjo de Deus disse-me em sonhos: Jacó! Eis-me aqui, respondi.
12 Then he said Lift, I pray thee, thine eyes and behold All, the he-goats that are leaping upon the flock are ring-straked, speckled, and dappled,for I have seen all that Laban, has been doing to thee.
12 Levanta os olhos e vê: todos os bodes que cobrem as cabras são listados, malhados e manchados, porque eu vi tudo o que te fez Labão.
13 I, am the GOD of Beth-el, where thou didst anoint a pillar, where thou didst vow to me a vow,Now, rise, go forth out of this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
13 Eu sou o Deus de Betel, onde tu me consagraste uma estela e me fizeste um voto. Agora, vamos, sai daqui e volta para a terra de tua família."
14 Then responded Rachel and Leah, and said to him,Have we any longer a portion or an inheritance in the house of our father?
14 Raquel e Lia responderam: "Resta-nos porventura ainda alguma parte de herança na casa de nosso pai?
15 Are we not accounted, aliens, to him seeing that having sold us, he hath then gone on devouring, our silver?
15 Não nos tratou ele como estrangeiras, vendendo-nos e devorando o nosso dinheiro?
16 Surely all the riches which God hath stripped off from our father, unto us, it belongeth, and unto our sons,Now, therefore, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
16 Toda a riqueza, que Deus tomou de nosso pai, é para nós e para nossos filhos. Faze, pois, o que Deus te disse."
17 So Jacob arose,and mounted his sons and his wives on the camels;
17 Levantou-se, pois, Jacó, e fez montar seus filhos e suas mulheres nos camelos.
18 and drave away all his herds and all his goods which he had gathered, the gains he had gained, which he had gathered in Padan-aram; that he might go in unto Isaac his father unto the land of Canaan.
18 Levou consigo todos os seus rebanhos, todos os bens que tinha ajuntado, o rebanho que lhe pertencia, adquirido em Padã-Arã, e partiu para junto de seu pai Isaac, na terra de Canaã.
19 Now, Laban, had gone, to shear his sheep,so Rachel stole the household gods that belonged to her father,
19 Raquel, aproveitando um momento em que seu pai fora tosquiar suas ovelhas, roubou os terafim de seu pai;
20 Thus Jacob stole away unawares to Laban, the Syrian,in that he had not told him that he was about to flee.
20 e Jacó enganou Labão, o arameu, ocultando-lhe sua fuga.
21 So he fled, theand all that he had, and he arose, and passed over the River,and set his face towards the mountain of Gilead.
21 Fugindo, pois, com tudo o que era seu, atravessou o rio e dirigiu-se para a montanha de Galaad.
22 And it was told Laban, on the third day,that Jacob had fled.
22 Três dias depois, soube Labão da fuga de Jacó.
23 So he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him a journey of seven daysand overtook him in the mountain of Gilead.
23 E, tomando consigo seus irmãos, perseguiu-o durante sete dias de marcha, e alcançou-o na montanha de Galaad.
24 And God went in unto Laban the Syrian in a dream of the night,and said to him Take heed to thyself that thou speak not with Jacob either good or bad.
24 Deus, porém, apareceu num sonho noturno a Labão, o arameu, e disse-lhe: "Guarda-te de dizer algo a Jacó."
25 So then Laban came up with Jacob,Jacob, having pitched his tent in the mountain, Laban, also, with his brethren pitched in the mountain of Gilead.
25 Labão alcançou, pois, Jacó. Este havia levantado sua tenda na montanha, enquanto Labão e seus irmãos tinham plantado a sua na montanha de Galaad.
26 Then said Laban to Jacob, What hadst thou done, that thou shouldst steal away unawares to me,and shouldst carry off my daughters, as captives of the sword?
26 Labão disse a Jacó: "Que fizeste? Tu me enganaste, e conduziste minhas filhas como prisioneiras de guerra!
27 Wherefore didst thou secretly flee, and rob me,and didst not tell me, that I might send thee away with rejoicing and with songs, with timbrel and with lyre;
27 Por que fugiste dessa forma, e me lograste em lugar de me avisar? Eu te teria despedido com manifestações de júbilo e com cânticos, ao som do tamborim e da harpa.
28 and didst not suffer me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now, hast thou done, foolishly.
28 Não me deixaste beijar meus filhos e minhas filhas! Procedeste como um insensato.
29 It is in the power of my hand, to deal with thee for harm,but the God of your father, last night, spake unto me, saying, Take heed to thyself that thou speak not with Jacob, either good or bad.
29 Eu poderia agora fazer-vos mal, mas o Deus de teu pai disse-me na última noite: Guarda-te de dizer algo a Jacó.
30 But, now, though thou, didst even take thy journey, because thou, didst sorely long, for the house of thy father,, wherefore didst thou steal away my gods?
30 E, se partiste somente porque tinhas saudade da casa paterna, então por que roubaste os meus deuses?"
31 And Jacob answered and said unto Laban,Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest thou take by force thy daughters from me!
31 Jacó respondeu-lhe: "Tive medo, ao pensar que poderias tirar-me tuas filhas;
32 He with whom thou find thy gods, shall not live! Before our brethren, note thou for thyself what is with me and take what is thine. Neither did Jacob know that, Rachel, had stolen them.
32 quanto aos teus deuses, porém, seja morto aquele que os tiver consigo! Examina o que está comigo, em presença de nossos parentes, e retoma o que é teu." Ora, Jacó ignorava o roubo de Raquel.
33 Then entered Laban into the tent of Jacob and into the tent of Leah and into the tent of the two handmaids, and found nothing,then went he forth out of the tent of Leah, and entered into the tent of Rachel.
33 Labão entrou na tenda de Jacó, na de Lia e na das duas escravas, mas nada encontrou. Saindo da tenda de Lia, entrou na de Raquel.
34 Now Rachel, had taken the household gods and put them in the basket-saddle of the camel, and taken her seat upon them. And Laban felt about throughout all the tent, and found them not.
34 Esta havia tomado os terafim e, colocando-os na sela do camelo, sentou-se em cima. Labão revistou toda a tenda, sem nada encontrar.
35 And she said unto her father, Let it not be vexing in the eyes of my lord that I cannot rise up at thy presence, for, the way of women, is upon me. So he made search, but found not the household gods,
35 Raquel disse ao seu pai: "Não se irrite o meu senhor, se não posso levantar-me em sua presença, pois acho-me agora com a indisposição que costuma vir às mulheres." Revistou, pois, mas não encontrou os terafim.
36 And it was vexing to Jacob and he contended with Laban,and Jacob responded and said to Laban, What was my trespass, what my sin, that thou shouldst have come burning after me?
36 Jacó encolerizou-se então contra Labão, e acabrunhou-o de censuras: "Qual é o meu crime?, disse-lhe ele. Qual é o meu pecado, para que te irrites desse modo contra mim?
37 Now that thou hast felt about among all my goods, what hast thou found of the goods of thine own house? Set it out here, right before my brethren and thy brethren,that they may give sentence betwixt us two.
37 Revistaste todas as minhas bagagens: que encontraste do que é teu? Mostra-me aqui em presença de meus parentes e dos teus, e sejam eles juízes entre nós dois.
38 This twenty years time, have, I, been with theeThy ewes and thy she-goats, have not cast their young,And the rams of thy flock, have I not eaten,
38 Há vinte anos que estou em tua casa: tuas ovelhas e tuas cabras não abortaram, não comi os carneiros do teu rebanho.
39 The torn, have I not brought in unto theeI bare the loss, At my hand, didst thou require it,Stolen by day, or stolen by night.
39 Nunca te trouxe os animais estraçalhados pelas feras. Eu os repunha, pois tu o exigias, quer fossem roubados de dia, quer de noite.
40 Thus have I beenBy day, drought hath consumed me, And, frost, by, night,So that my sleep fled away from mine eyes.
40 Eu era queimado de dia pelo calor, e de noite pelo frio, e o sono fugia dos meus olhos.
41 This, hath been my lot twenty years in thy house,I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, And six years for thy sheepAnd thou didst change my wages ten times:
41 Eis já vinte anos que estou em tua casa; servi-te catorze anos por tuas duas filhas, seis anos pelos teus rebanhos, e dez vezes modificaste o meu salário.
42 But that the God of my fatherThe God of Abraham, and the Dread of IsaacProved to he mine, Surely even now, empty, hadst thou let me go? My humiliation and the wearying toil of my hands, God had seen, And therefore gave sentence last night!
42 Se o Deus de meu pai, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus terrível de Isaac não se tivesse posto de meu lado, tu me terias hoje despedido com as mãos vazias. Deus viu minhas penas e meus trabalhos, e na última noite ele pronunciou-se.
43 Then responded Laban and said unto Jacobthe daughters, are my daughters, And the sons, are my sons, And the sheep are my sheep, And, all that, thou, beholdest, To me doth it belong! But to my daughters, what can I do to these this day, Or to their sons whom they have borne?
43 Labão respondeu a Jacó: "Estas filhas são minhas filhas, estes filhos, meus filhos, e estes rebanhos, meus rebanhos: tudo o que vês é meu. Que farei eu agora contra minhas filhas, ou contra os filhos que elas deram ao mundo?
44 Now, therefore, come on! Let us solemnise a covenant, I and thou,So shall it be a witness betwixt me and thee.
44 Vamos, façamos juntos um pacto que nos sirva de testemunho a nós dois."
45 So Jacob took a stone,and set it up as a pillar.
45 Jacó tomou uma pedra e erigiu-a em estela,
46 Then said Jacob to his brethrenGather stones. And they took stones and made a heap,and they did eat there, by the heap.
46 e disse aos seus parentes: "Trazei pedras." E, tendo juntado muitas, fizeram um monte, sobre o qual comeram.
47 And Laban called it, Jegar-sahadutha,but, Jacob, called it, Galeed.
47 Labão chamou-o Yegar-Saaduta, e Jacó, Galaad.
48 Then said Laban: This heap, be witness betwixt me, and thee, to-day. For this cause, is the name thereof called Galeed;
48 Labão disse: "Este monte é hoje testemunha entre mim e ti",e por isso deu-se-lhe o nome de Galaad,
49 also, The Watch Tower, as to which it is said, Yahweh watch betwixt me and thee, when we are parted one from another.
49 e também Mitspa, porque Labão disse ainda: "Que o Senhor nos vigie a nós ambos, quando nós nos tivermos despedido um do outro.
50 If thou oppress my daughters, or if thou take wives besides my daughters,there may be no man with ussee! God, be witness betwixt me, and thee!
50 Se maltratares minhas filhas, e se tomares outras mulheres além delas, não é um homem que estará conosco. Mas toma cuidado, pois é Deus que será testemunha entre nós."
51 And Laban said to JacobBehold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have set betwixt me, and thee:
51 Labão disse ainda a Jacó: "Vês este monte de pedras e esta estela que levantei entre mim e ti.
52 A witness, be this heap, and, a witness, the pillar,That, I, am not to pass, unto thee, over this heap, And, thou, art not to pass, unto me, over this heap and this pillar for harm.
52 Este monte é testemunho, e igualmente esta estela, de que eu não ultrapassarei este monte para o teu lado, e que tu não ultrapassarás este monte e esta estela para o meu lado para nos fazer mal.
53 The Gods of Abraham and the Gods of Nahor judge betwixt usthe Gods of their fathers. And Jacob sware by the Dread of his father Isaac:
53 O Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Nacor, o Deus de seus pais seja juiz entre nós!" E Jacó jurou pelo Deus terrível de Isaac.
54 and Jacob offered sacrifice in the mountain, and called on his brethren to eat bread. So they did eat bread, and tarried the night in the mountain.
54 Ofereceu um sacrifício sobre a montanha e convidou seus parentes para comer. Comeram e passaram a noite na montanha.
55 And Laban rose up early in the morning, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban went his way and returned to his place.
55 No dia seguinte pela manhã, Labão beijou seus filhos e suas filhas; abençoou-os e retomou o caminho de sua casa.
