1 After these things, came the word of Yahweh unto Abram, in a vision saying,Do not fear Abram, am a shield to thee, thine exceeding great reward.
1 Depois dessas coisas o Senhor falou a Abrão numa visão: "Não tenha medo, Abrão! Eu sou o seu escudo; grande será a sua recompensa! "
2 And Abram said My Lord Yahweh, what canst thou give me, when, I, am going on childless,and the heir of my house, is Eliezer, of Damascus,
2 Mas Abrão perguntou: "Ó Soberano Senhor, que me darás, se continuo sem filhos e o herdeiro do que possuo é Eliézer de Damasco? "
3 And Abram saidLo, to me, hast thou not given seed,
3 E acrescentou: "Tu não me deste filho algum! Um servo da minha casa será o meu herdeiro! "
4 And lo! a son of my household, is mine heir! And lo! the word of Yahweh unto him, saying, This one, shall not be thine heir: But one who cometh forth of thy bodyhe shall be thine heir.
4 Então o Senhor deu-lhe a seguinte resposta: "Seu herdeiro não será esse. Um filho gerado por você mesmo será o seu herdeiro".
5 And he brought him forth abroad and saidLook steadfastly. I pray thee towards the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number, them, And he said to him, Thus, shall be thy seed.
5 Levando-o para fora da tenda, disse-lhe: "Olhe para o céu e conte as estrelas, se é que pode contá-las". E prosseguiu: "Assim será a sua descendência".
6 And he had faith in Yahweh,so he reckoned it to him as righteousness.
6 Abrão creu no Senhor, e isso lhe foi creditado como justiça.
7 And he said unto him,I, am Yahweh, who brought thee forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
7 Disse-lhe ainda: "Eu sou o Senhor, que o tirei de Ur dos caldeus para dar-lhe esta terra como herança".
8 And he said, My Lord Yahweh, whereby, can I know that I shall inherit it?
8 Perguntou-lhe Abrão: "Ó Soberano Senhor, como posso saber que tomarei posse dela? "
9 And he said unto him, Take for me a heifer three years old, and a she-goat three years old, and a ram three years old, and a turtle-dove and a young pigeon.
9 Respondeu-lhe o Senhor: "Traga-me uma novilha, uma cabra e um carneiro, todos com três anos de vida, e também uma rolinha e um pombinho".
10 So he took for him all these, and divided them, in the midst, and placed each piece over against its fellow, hut the birds, divided he not.
10 Abrão trouxe todos esses animais, cortou-os ao meio e colocou cada metade em frente à outra; as aves, porém, ele não cortou.
11 Then came down the birds of prey upon the carcass, and Abram drove them away.
11 Nisso, aves de rapina começaram a descer sobre os cadáveres, mas Abrão as enxotava.
12 And it came to pass when, the sun, was shout to go in. and a deep sleep, had fallen upon Abram, lo! a terror a great darkness, was falling upon him.
12 Ao pôr-do-sol, Abrão foi tomado de sono profundo, e eis que vieram sobre ele trevas densas e apavorantes.
13 And he said to AbramThou must surely know, that, sojourners, will thy seed become in a land not theirs, and shall serve them and they will humble them, four hundred years;
13 Então o Senhor lhe disse: "Saiba que os seus descendentes serão estrangeiros numa terra que não lhes pertencerá, onde também serão escravizados e oprimidos por quatrocentos anos.
14 moreover also, the nation whom they will serve, I, am going to judge, and after that, shall they come forth with great substance.
14 Mas eu castigarei a nação a quem servirão como escravos e, depois de tudo, sairão com muitos bens.
15 But, thou, shalt go in unto thy fathers in peace, thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
15 Você, porém, irá em paz a seus antepassados e será sepultado em boa velhice.
16 And, in the fourth generation, shall they return hither,for not complete, is the iniquity of the Amorites, as yet,
16 Na quarta geração, os seus descendentes voltarão para cá, porque a maldade dos amorreus ainda não atingiu a medida completa".
17 So it came to pass when, the sun, had gone in, and Ira thick darkness, had come on, that lo there was a smoking hearth and torch of fire, which passed through between these pieces.
17 Depois que o sol se pôs e veio a escuridão, eis que um fogareiro esfumaçante, com uma tocha acesa, passou por entre os pedaços dos animais.
18 In that day, did Yahweh solemnise with Abram a covenant, saying,To thy seed, have I given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great riverthe river Euphrates:
18 Naquele dia o Senhor fez a seguinte aliança com Abrão: "Aos seus descendentes dei esta terra, desde o ribeiro do Egito até o grande rio, o Eufrates:
19 the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite;
19 a terra dos queneus, dos quenezeus, dos cadmoneus,
20 and the Hittite and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim;
20 dos hititas, dos ferezeus, dos refains,
21 and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.
21 dos amorreus, dos cananeus, dos girgaseus e dos jebuseus".
