1 Then spake Yahweh unto MosesGet thee away, go up from hence, thou, and the people whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt,into the land of which I sware to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, saying, To thy seed, will I give it;
1 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Vai, parte daqui com o povo que tiraste do Egito; ide para a terra que prometi a Abraão, a Isaac e a Jacó, com o juramento de dá-la à sua posteridade.
2 And I will send before thee a messenger,-and will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite;
2 Enviarei um anjo adiante de ti, e expulsarei os cananeus, os amorreus, os hiteus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.
3 into a land flowing with milk and honey,for I will not go up in thy midst in that a stiff-necked people, thou art, lest I consume thee in the way.
3 Ide para essa terra que mana leite e mel. Mas não subirei convosco, porque sois um povo de cabeça dura; eu vos aniquilaria em caminho."
4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they afflicted themselves,and they put not, any man, his ornaments upon him.
4 Ouvindo o povo estas duras palavras, pôs-se a chorar e cada um tirou os seus enfeites.
5 Then said Yahweh unto MosesSay unto the sons of Israel, Ye, are a stiff-necked people, in one momentif I should go up in thy midst, should I make an end of thee,Now, therefore lay down thine ornaments from off thee, that I may see what I must do with thee.
5 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: "Dize aos israelitas: vós sois um povo de cabeça dura; se eu viesse um só instante no meio de vós, eu vos aniquilaria. Arrancai, pois, todos os vossos enfeites e verei o que posso fazer por vós."
6 So then the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments,
6 Os israelitas despojaram-se de seus enfeites ao partir do monte Horeb.
7 And, Moses, proceeded to take a tent, and pitch it by itself outside the camp, afar off from the camp, and he called it, The Tent of Meeting,and so it came to pass that whosoever was seeking Yahweh went out unto the tent of meeting, which was on the outside of the camp.
7 Moisés foi levantar a tenda a alguma distância fora do acampamento. {E chamou-a tenda de reunião.} Quem queria consultar o Senhor, dirigia-se à tenda de reunião, fora do acampamento.
8 And it came about, that, when Moses went out unto the tent, all the people used to rise up, and station themselves every man at the opening of his tent,and they watched Moses, until he entered the tent.
8 Quando Moisés se dirigia para a tenda, todo mundo se levantava, cada um diante da entrada de sua tenda, para segui-lo com os olhos até que entrasse na tenda.
9 And it came to pass that when Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud came down, and stood at the opening of the tent,and spake with Moses.
9 E logo que ele acabava de entrar, a coluna de nuvem descia e se punha à entrada da tenda, e o Senhor se entretinha com Moisés.
10 And when all the people beheld the pillar of cloud, standing at the opening of the tent, then all the people rose up and bowed themselves down, every man at the entrance of his tent.
10 À vista da coluna de nuvem, todo o povo, em pé à entrada de suas tendas, se prostrava no mesmo lugar.
11 Thus Yahweh used to speak unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend,and when he returned unto the camp, his attendant Joshua son of Nun, a young man, moved not from the midst of the tent.
11 O Senhor se entretinha com Moisés face a face, como um homem fala com seu amigo. Voltava depois Moisés ao acampamento, mas seu ajudante, o jovem Josué, filho de Nun, não se apartava do interior da tenda.
12 Then said Moses, unto Yahweh, See! thou art saying unto meTake up this people, and yet thou hast no let me know whom thou wilt send with me,though thou thyself, didst sayI acknowledge thee by name, Yea, moreover, thou hast found favour in mine eyes.
12 Moisés disse ao Senhor: "Vós dizeis-me que faça subir o povo, mas não me fazeis saber quem haveis designado para acompanhar-me. E, entretanto, dissestes-me: 'Conheço-te pelo teu nome' e: 'Tens todo o meu favor.'
13 Now, therefore, if, I pray thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, let me know, I beseech thee, thy way, that I may acknowledge thee, to the intent I may find favour in thine eyes,see thou, therefore, that this nation is thine own people.
13 Se é verdade que tenho todo o vosso favor, dai-me a conhecer os vossos desígnios, para que eu saiba que tenho todo o vosso favor; e considerai que esta nação é o vosso povo."
14 So then he said,Mine own presence, shall go on thus will I give thee rest.
14 O Senhor respondeu: "Minha face irá contigo, e serei o teu guia."
15 And he said unto him, If thy presence is not going on, do not take us up from hence.
15 "Se vossa face não vier conosco, disse Moisés, não nos façais partir deste lugar.
16 Whereby, indeed, shall it be known then that I have found favour in thine eyes, I, and thy people? Shall it not be, by thy going on with us? So shall we be more distinguished, I, and thy people, than any people that are on the face of the ground.
16 Por onde se saberá que temos todo o vosso favor, eu e o vosso povo? Porventura, não é necessário para isso justamente que marcheis conosco? É o que nos distinguirá, eu e o vosso povo, de todas as outras nações da terra."
17 Then said Yahweh unto Moses: Even this thing, which thou hast spoken, will I doFor thou hast found favour in mine eyes, And I have acknowledged thee by name.
17 "O que pedes, replicou o Senhor, fá-lo-ei, porque tens todo o meu favor, e te conheço pelo teu nome."
18 And he said,Show me, I pray thee, thy glory.
18 Moisés disse: "Mostrai-me vossa glória."
19 And he said,I, will cause all my goodness to pass before thee. And will proclaim myself by the name Yahweh, before thee, And will show favour, unto whom I may show favour, And will have compassion on whom I may have compassion.
19 E Deus respondeu: "Vou fazer passar diante de ti todo o meu esplendor, e pronunciarei diante de ti o nome de Javé. Dou a minha graça a quem quero, e uso de misericórdia com quem me apraz.
20 But be saidThou canst not see my face, For no son of earth can see me, and life
20 Mas, ajuntou o Senhor, não poderás ver a minha face, pois o homem não me poderia ver e continuar a viver.
21 And Yahweh, said, Lo! a place near me,So then thou shalt station thyself upon the rock:
21 Eis um lugar perto de mim, disse o Senhor; tu estarás sobre a rocha.
22 And it shall be while my glory passeth by, I will put thee in the cleft of the rock,and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
22 Quando minha glória passar, te porei na fenda da rocha e te cobrirei com a mão, até que eu tenha passado.
23 Then will I take away my hand, and thou shalt see behind me, But, my face, must not be seen.
23 Retirarei depois a mão, e me verás por detrás. Quanto à minha face, ela não pode ser vista".
