1 Then spake Yahweh unto MosesGet thee away, go up from hence, thou, and the people whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt,into the land of which I sware to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, saying, To thy seed, will I give it;
1 Depois ordenou o Senhor a Moisés: "Saia deste lugar, com o povo que você tirou do Egito, e vá para a terra que prometi com juramento a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó, dizendo: Eu a darei a seus descendentes.
2 And I will send before thee a messenger,-and will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite;
2 Mandarei à sua frente um anjo e expulsarei os cananeus, os amorreus, os hititas, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.
3 into a land flowing with milk and honey,for I will not go up in thy midst in that a stiff-necked people, thou art, lest I consume thee in the way.
3 Vão para a terra onde manam leite e mel. Mas eu não irei com vocês, pois vocês são um povo obstinado, e eu poderia destruí-los no caminho".
4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they afflicted themselves,and they put not, any man, his ornaments upon him.
4 Quando o povo ouviu essas palavras terríveis, começou a chorar, e ninguém usou enfeite algum.
5 Then said Yahweh unto MosesSay unto the sons of Israel, Ye, are a stiff-necked people, in one momentif I should go up in thy midst, should I make an end of thee,Now, therefore lay down thine ornaments from off thee, that I may see what I must do with thee.
5 Isso porque o Senhor ordenara que Moisés dissesse aos israelitas: "Vocês são um povo obstinado. Se eu fosse com vocês, ainda que por um só momento, eu os destruiria. Agora tirem os seus enfeites, e eu decidirei o que fazer com vocês".
6 So then the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments,
6 Por isso, do monte Horebe em diante, os israelitas não usaram mais nenhum enfeite.
7 And, Moses, proceeded to take a tent, and pitch it by itself outside the camp, afar off from the camp, and he called it, The Tent of Meeting,and so it came to pass that whosoever was seeking Yahweh went out unto the tent of meeting, which was on the outside of the camp.
7 Moisés costumava montar uma tenda do lado de fora do acampamento; ele a chamava Tenda do Encontro. Quem quisesse consultar a Deus ia à tenda, fora do acampamento.
8 And it came about, that, when Moses went out unto the tent, all the people used to rise up, and station themselves every man at the opening of his tent,and they watched Moses, until he entered the tent.
8 Sempre que Moisés ia até lá, todo o povo se levantava e ficava de pé à entrada de suas tendas, observando-o, até que ele entrasse na tenda.
9 And it came to pass that when Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud came down, and stood at the opening of the tent,and spake with Moses.
9 Assim que Moisés entrava, a coluna de nuvem descia e ficava à entrada da tenda, enquanto o Senhor falava com Moisés.
10 And when all the people beheld the pillar of cloud, standing at the opening of the tent, then all the people rose up and bowed themselves down, every man at the entrance of his tent.
10 Quando o povo via a coluna de nuvem parada à entrada da tenda, todos prestavam adoração de pé, cada qual na entrada de sua própria tenda.
11 Thus Yahweh used to speak unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend,and when he returned unto the camp, his attendant Joshua son of Nun, a young man, moved not from the midst of the tent.
11 O Senhor falava com Moisés face a face, como quem fala com seu amigo. Depois Moisés voltava ao acampamento; mas Josué, filho de Num, que lhe servia como auxiliar, não se afastava da tenda.
12 Then said Moses, unto Yahweh, See! thou art saying unto meTake up this people, and yet thou hast no let me know whom thou wilt send with me,though thou thyself, didst sayI acknowledge thee by name, Yea, moreover, thou hast found favour in mine eyes.
12 Disse Moisés ao Senhor: "Tu me ordenaste: ‘Conduza este povo’, mas não me permites saber quem enviarás comigo. Disseste: ‘Eu o conheço pelo nome e de você tenho me agradado’.
13 Now, therefore, if, I pray thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, let me know, I beseech thee, thy way, that I may acknowledge thee, to the intent I may find favour in thine eyes,see thou, therefore, that this nation is thine own people.
13 Se me vês com agrado, revela-me os teus propósitos, para que eu te conheça e continue sendo aceito por ti. Lembra-te de que esta nação é o teu povo".
14 So then he said,Mine own presence, shall go on thus will I give thee rest.
14 Respondeu o Senhor: "Eu mesmo o acompanharei, e lhe darei descanso".
15 And he said unto him, If thy presence is not going on, do not take us up from hence.
15 Então Moisés lhe declarou: "Se não fores conosco não nos envies.
16 Whereby, indeed, shall it be known then that I have found favour in thine eyes, I, and thy people? Shall it not be, by thy going on with us? So shall we be more distinguished, I, and thy people, than any people that are on the face of the ground.
16 Como se saberá que eu e o teu povo podemos contar com o teu favor, se não nos acompanhares? Que mais poderá distinguir a mim e a teu povo de todos os demais povos da face da terra? "
17 Then said Yahweh unto Moses: Even this thing, which thou hast spoken, will I doFor thou hast found favour in mine eyes, And I have acknowledged thee by name.
17 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Farei o que me pede, porque tenho me agradado de você e o conheço pelo nome".
18 And he said,Show me, I pray thee, thy glory.
18 Então disse Moisés: "Peço-te que me mostres a tua glória".
19 And he said,I, will cause all my goodness to pass before thee. And will proclaim myself by the name Yahweh, before thee, And will show favour, unto whom I may show favour, And will have compassion on whom I may have compassion.
19 E Deus respondeu: "Diante de você farei passar toda a minha bondade, e diante de você proclamarei o meu nome: o Senhor. Terei misericórdia de quem eu quiser ter misericórdia, e terei compaixão de quem eu quiser ter compaixão".
20 But be saidThou canst not see my face, For no son of earth can see me, and life
20 E acrescentou: "Você não poderá ver a minha face, porque ninguém poderá ver-me e continuar vivo".
21 And Yahweh, said, Lo! a place near me,So then thou shalt station thyself upon the rock:
21 E prosseguiu o Senhor: "Há aqui um lugar perto de mim, onde você ficará, em cima de uma rocha.
22 And it shall be while my glory passeth by, I will put thee in the cleft of the rock,and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
22 Quando a minha glória passar, eu o colocarei numa fenda da rocha e o cobrirei com a minha mão até que eu tenha acabado de passar.
23 Then will I take away my hand, and thou shalt see behind me, But, my face, must not be seen.
23 Então tirarei a minha mão e você verá as minhas costas; mas a minha face ninguém poderá ver".
