1 When thou shalt go out to wage war against thine enemy, and shalt see the horses and chariots of a people more in number than thou, thou shalt not be afraid of them,for, Yahweh thy God, is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
1 Quando saíres à guerra contra teus inimigos e vires cavalos, carros e um exército mais numeroso que o teu, não tenhas medo, porque o Senhor, teu Deus, que te tirou do Egito, está contigo.
2 And it shall be, when ye are coming nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people;
2 Quando se aproximar o momento do combate, o sacerdote se adiantará para falar ao povo: Ouve, Israel! lhe dirá ele.
3 and shall say unto them,Hear, O Israel, ye are coming near to-day, unto battle against your enemies,let not your heart faint do not fear nor start nor quake because of them.
3 Ides hoje combater contra os vossos inimigos: que vossa coragem não desfaleça! Não temais, nem vos perturbeis, nem vos deixeis amedrontar por eles.
4 For Yahweh your God, is he that is going with you,to fight for you against your enemies to save you.
4 Porque o Senhor, vosso Deus, marcha convosco para combater contra os vossos inimigos e para vos dar a vitória.
5 Then shall the officers speak unto the people saying, Who is the man that hath built a new house and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return unto his house,lest he die in the battle, and, another man dedicate it.
5 Os oficiais dirão em seguida ao povo: há alguém entre vós que tenha edificado uma casa e não a tenha ainda inaugurado? Que esse volte para a sua casa; não suceda que morra no combate e um outro venha a habitar primeiro do que ele em sua casa.
6 And who is the man that hath planted a vineyard and hath not thrown it open? let him go and return unto his house,lest he die in the battle, and another man, throw it open.
6 Há alguém entre vós que tenha plantado uma vinha e não tenha ainda desfrutado dela? Que esse volte para a sua casa; não suceda que pereça no combate e outro venha a colher os primeiros frutos.
7 And who is the man that hath betrothed a wife and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house,lest he die in the battle, and, another man, take her.
7 Há alguém que tenha desposado uma mulher e não a tenha ainda recebido? Que esse volte para a sua casa; não suceda que morra no combate e outro a despose.
8 Then shall the officers further speak unto the people, and sayWho is the man that is fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house,lest his brethrens heart melt as well as his heart.
8 Os oficiais dirão ainda ao povo: há alguém medroso e de coração tímido? Que esse volte para a sua casa; não suceda que o coração de seus irmãos desfaleça como o seu.
9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, then shall they appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people.
9 Quando os oficiais tiverem acabado de falar ao povo, serão colocados os chefes das tropas à testa do povo.
10 When thou shalt come nigh unto a city, to fight against it,then shalt thou proclaim unto itpeace,
10 Quando te aproximares para combater uma cidade, oferecer-lhe-ás primeiramente a paz.
11 and it shall be if peace, be the answer it giveth thee, and it open unto thee, then shall it be, that, all the people that are found therein, shall become thy tributaries and shall serve thee.
11 Se ela concordar e te abrir suas portas, toda a população te pagará tributo e te servirá.
12 But if it will not make peace with thee, but will make war with thee, then shalt thou lay siege to it;
12 Se te recusar a paz e começar a guerra contra ti, tu a cercarás,
13 and Yahweh thy God will deliver it into thy hand,and thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword;
13 e quando o Senhor, teu Deus, ta houver entregue nas mãos, passarás a fio de espada todos os varões que nela houver.
14 but the women and the little ones and the cattle and all that shall be in the cityall the spoil thereof, shalt thou take as thy prey,so shalt thou eat the spoil of thine enemies, whom Yahweh thy God hath delivered unto thee.
14 Só tomarás para ti as mulheres, as crianças, os rebanhos e tudo o que se encontrar na cidade, e viverás dos despojos dos teus inimigos que o Senhor, teu Deus, e tiver dado.
15 Thus, shalt thou do unto all the cities that are very far away from thee,which are not of the cities of those nations.
15 Farás assim a todas as cidades muito afastadas, que não são do número das cidades dessas nações.
16 But of the cities of these peoples which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee as an inheritance, shalt thou not save alive, any breathing thing.
16 Quanto às cidades daqueles povos cuja possessão te dá o Senhor, teu Deus, não deixarás nelas alma viva.
17 But thou shalt devote them to destructionthe Hittites and the Amorites the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites,as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee:
17 Segundo a ordem do Senhor, teu Deus, votarás ao interdito os hiteus, os amorreus, os cananeus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus,
18 lest they teach you to do, according to all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods,and so ye sin against Yahweh your God.
18 para que não suceda que eles vos ensinem a imitar as abominações que praticam em honra de seus deuses, e venhais a pecar contra o Senhor, vosso Deus.
19 When thou shalt besiege a city for many days to fight against it, to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding against them an axe, when of them, thou mightest eat, them, there-fore shalt thou not cut down,for, Is the tree of the field, a man, that it should enter, because of thee into the siege?
19 Quando sitiares uma cidade durante longo tempo e tiveres de lutar para apoderar-te dela, não cortarás as árvores a golpe de machado; comerás os seus frutos, mas não derrubarás as árvores. A árvore do campo seria porventura um homem para que a ataques?
20 Nevertheless, the tree of which thou knowest that it is, not a tree yielding food, the same, mayest thou destroy, and cut down,and so build up a siege-work against the city which is making war with thee, until thou hast subdued it.
20 Somente aquelas árvores que souberes não serem frutíferas poderás destruí-las e abatê-las para os trabalhos do cerco contra a cidade inimiga, ate que ela sucumba.
