1 And Ahab told Jezebel, all that Elijah had done,and withal, how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
1 E Acabe contou a Jezabel tudo o que Elias havia feito, e, ao mesmo tempo, como ele havia matado todos os profetas com a espada.
2 Then sent Jezebel a messenger unto Elijah, saying,So, let the gods do, and, so, let them add, if, by this time to-morrow, I make not thy life as the life of one of them.
2 Então, Jezabel mandou um mensageiro a Elias, a lhe dizer: Assim me façam os deuses, e outro tanto, se até amanhã a estas horas eu não fizer a tua vida como a de um deles.
3 And, when he saw , he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah,and left his servant there.
3 E quando ele viu aquilo, ele se levantou, e se foi para escapar com vida, e chegou a Berseba, a qual pertence a Judá, e ali deixou o seu servo.
4 But, he himself, went into the wilderness a days journey, and came and sat down under a certain shrub,and asked for his life, that he might die, and saidEnough, now, O Yahweh! take away my life, for, no better, am, I, than, my fathers.
4 Ele, porém, seguiu a viagem de um dia para dentro do deserto, e chegou e se assentou debaixo de um junípero; e pediu por si para que pudesse morrer; e disse: Basta! Agora, ó SENHOR, tira a minha vida; porque não sou melhor do que os meus pais.
5 And, as he lay, and slept, under a certain shrub, lo! a messenger, touching him, who said to himRise, eat.
5 E, enquanto ele estava deitado e dormia debaixo do junípero, eis que um anjo o tocou, e lhe disse: Levanta-te e come.
6 So he looked about, and lo! at his head, a cake baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water,and he did eat and drink, and then went back and lay down.
6 E ele olhou, e, eis que havia um pão assado sobre as brasas, e um cântaro de água junto à sua cabeça. E ele comeu e bebeu, e se deitou novamente.
7 And the messenger of Yahweh came again a second time, and touched him, and saidRise, eat,because, too much for thee, is the journey.
7 E o anjo do SENHOR veio novamente pela segunda vez, e o tocou, e disse: Levanta e come; porque a jornada é demasiadamente grande para ti.
8 So he arose, and did eat and drink,and journeyed, in the strength of that eating, forty days and forty nights, as far as the mountain of GodHoreb.
8 E ele se levantou, e comeu e bebeu, e se foi na força daquela comida por quarenta dias e quarenta noites até Horebe, o monte de Deus.
9 And he entered, there, into a cave, and lodged there,and lo! the word of Yahweh unto him, and said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
9 E ele chegou ali em uma caverna, e ali se alojou; e eis que a palavra do SENHOR veio até ele, e ele lhe disse: O que fazes tu aqui, Elias?
10 And he saidVery jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets, also have they slain with the sword,and, I alone, am left, and they have sought my life, to take it.
10 E ele disse: Tenho sido mui ciumento pelo SENHOR Deus dos Exércitos; porquanto os filhos de Israel têm abandonado o teu pacto, lançado abaixo os teus altares, e matado os teus profetas com a espada; e eu, somente eu restei; e eles buscam pela minha vida, para me tirarem.
11 And he saidGo forth to-morrow, and stand in the mountain, before Yahweh. And lo! Yahweh, passing by, and a great and strong windrending the mountains, and breaking in pieces the crags, before Yahweh, Not, in the wind, was, Yahweh,And, after the wind, an, earthquake, Not, in the earthquake, was, Yahweh;
11 E ele disse: Sai e põe-te de pé sobre o monte diante do SENHOR. E, eis que, o SENHOR passou por ele, e um vento grande e forte rasgou os montes, e fez em pedaços as rochas diante do SENHOR; mas o SENHOR não estava no vento; e depois do vento, um terremoto; mas o SENHOR não estava no terremoto;
12 And, after the earthquake, a, fire, Not, in the fire, was, Yahweh,And, after the fire, the voice of a gentle whisper.
12 e depois do terremoto, um fogo; porém o SENHOR não estava no fogo; e depois do fogo, uma voz calma e baixa.
13 And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went forth, and stood at the entrance of the cave,and lo! unto him, a voice; and it saidWhat doest thou here, Elijah?
13 E assim foi, quando Elias ouviu isto, que ele envolveu a face com o seu manto, e saiu, e se pôs de pé à entrada da caverna. E eis que ali lhe veio uma voz, e disse: O que fazes tu aqui, Elias?
14 And he saidVery jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets also, have they slain with the sword,and, I alone, am left, and they rove sought my life, to take it.
14 E ele disse: Tenho sido mui ciumento pelo SENHOR Deus dos Exércitos; porque os filhos de Israel têm abandonado o teu pacto, lançado abaixo os teus altares, e matado os teus profetas com a espada; e eu, somente eu restei; e eles buscam pela minha vida, para me tirarem.
15 And Yahweh said unto him, Go, return to thy way, towards the wilderness of Damascus,and, when thou enterest, then shalt thou anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;
15 E o SENHOR disse a ele: Vai, retorna ao teu caminho para o deserto de Damasco; e quando vieres, unge Hazael para ser rei sobre a Síria.
16 And, Jehu son of Minshi, shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel,and, Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy stead:
16 E Jeú, o filho de Ninsi ungirás para ser rei sobre Israel; e Eliseu, o filho de Safate de Abel-Meolá, ungirás para ser profeta em teu lugar.
17 Then shall it come to pass, thathim that escapeth the sword of Hazael, shall, Jehu, slay,and, him that escapeth the sword of Jehu, shall, Elisha, slay;
17 E sucederá que, aquele que escapar da espada de Hazael, Jeú o matará; e aquele que escapar da espada de Jeú, Eliseu matará.
18 Yet will I leave remaining in Israel, seven thousand,all knees which have not bowed to Baal, and all mouths which have not kissed to him.
18 Contudo deixei para mim sete mil em Israel, todos os joelhos que não têm se curvado a Baal, e toda boca que não o beijou.
19 So he departed from thence, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, as he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, he being with the twelfth,so Elijah crossed over unto him, and cast his mantle towards him;
19 Assim, ele partiu dali, e encontrou Eliseu, o filho de Safate, que estava arando com doze juntas de bois diante dele, estando ele com a décima segunda. E Elias passou por ele e lançou sobre ele o seu manto.
20 and he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and saidLet me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, that I may follow thee. And he said unto him,Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?
20 E ele deixou os bois, e correu atrás de Elias, e disse: Rogo-te que me deixes beijar o meu pai e a minha mãe, e depois eu te seguirei. E disse-lhe: Volta novamente; porquanto o que tenho feito a ti?
21 So he turned back from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and, with the implements of the oxen, boiled their flesh, and gave unto the people, and they did eat,then he arose, and followed Elijah, and ministered unto him.
21 E ele retornou novamente, e tomou uma junta de bois, e a matou, e ferveu a sua carne com os instrumentos dos bois, e deu ao povo, e eles comeram. Então, ele se levantou, e foi atrás de Elias, e ministrou a ele.
