1 THE saying is trustworthy: "If any one aspires to the office of a bishop, he desires a noble work."
1 Esta é uma afirmação digna de confiança: “Se alguém deseja ser bispo, deseja uma tarefa honrosa”.
2 A bishop, then, should be above reproach, true to one woman, temperate, self-controlled, dignified, hospitable, with a gift for teaching,
2 Portanto, o bispo deve ter uma vida irrepreensível. Deve ser marido de uma só mulher, ter autocontrole, viver sabiamente e ter boa reputação. Deve ser hospitaleiro e apto a ensinar.
3 not given to wine or to blows, but fair-minded, averse to strife, not a lover of money,
3 Não deve beber vinho em excesso, nem ser violento. Antes, deve ser amável, pacífico e desapegado do dinheiro.
4 presiding well over his own house, with children obedient and respectful.
4 Deve liderar bem a própria família e ter filhos que o respeitem e lhe obedeçam.
5 But if any one does not know how to preside over his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?
5 Pois, se um homem não é capaz de liderar a própria família, como poderá cuidar da igreja de Deus?
6 He must not be a new convert, for fear he may be blinded by pride and fall into the condemnation of the Devil.
6 Não deve ser recém-convertido, pois poderia se tornar orgulhoso, e o diabo o faria cair.
7 He must have a good reputation with outsiders so as not to fall into reproach and the snare of the Devil.
7 Além disso, os que são de fora devem falar bem dele, para que não seja desacreditado e caia na armadilha do diabo.
8 Deacons, in the same way, must be dignified, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not eager for base gain,
8 Da mesma forma, os diáconos devem ser respeitáveis e ter integridade. Não devem beber vinho em excesso, nem se deixar conduzir pela ganância.
9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.
9 Devem ser comprometidos com o segredo da fé e viver com a consciência limpa.
10 They must first be tested, and then let them fill the office of deacon if there is nothing against them.
10 Antes de serem nomeados diáconos, é necessário que se faça uma avaliação cuidadosa. Se forem aprovados, então que exerçam a função de diáconos.
11 Women, in the same way, must be dignified, not slanderers, temperate, trustworthy in everything.
11 De igual modo, as mulheres devem ser respeitáveis e não caluniar ninguém. Devem ter autocontrole e ser fiéis em tudo que fazem.
12 Deacons must be men true to one woman, presiding well over their children and their own houses.
12 O diácono deve ser marido de uma só mulher e liderar bem seus filhos e sua casa.
13 Those who have filled the office of deacon well win for themselves a high standing and great boldness in the faith in Christ Jesus.
13 Aqueles que exercerem bem a função de diáconos serão recompensados com o respeito de outros e terão cada vez mais convicção de sua fé em Cristo Jesus.
14 I am writing these things to you, although I hope to come to you soon,
14 Embora espere vê-lo em breve, escrevo-lhe estas coisas agora,
15 but so that if I am delayed you may know how people should conduct themselves in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth.
15 para que, se eu demorar, você saiba como as pessoas devem se comportar na casa de Deus. Ela é a igreja do Deus vivo, coluna e alicerce da verdade.
16 Confessedly great is the mystery of godliness: "Who was manifested in flesh, declared righteous in spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory."
16 Sem dúvida, este é o grande segredo de nossa fé: Cristo justificado pelo Espírito, visto por anjos, anunciado às nações, crido em todo o mundo e levado para o céu em glória.
