1 After he taught the people he went to Capernaum.
1 Quando Jesus acabou de dizer essas coisas ao povo, foi para a cidade de Cafarnaum.
2 A centurions servant, who was highly regarded by him, was sick and at the point of death.
2 Havia ali um oficial romano que tinha um empregado a quem estimava muito. O empregado estava gravemente doente, quase morto.
3 When he heard about him he contacted Jesus through the Jewish elders. He asked him to come and save his servant.
3 Quando o oficial ouviu falar de Jesus, enviou alguns líderes judeus para pedirem a ele que viesse curar o seu empregado.
4 They came to Jesus and earnestly pleaded with him saying: »He is worthy and you should do this for him.
4 Eles foram falar com Jesus e lhe pediram com insistência: — Esse homem merece, de fato, a sua ajuda,
5 »He loves our nation and he also built our synagogue for us.«
5 pois estima muito o nosso povo e até construiu uma sinagoga para nós.
6 Jesus went with them. As he approached the house, the centurion sent friends to him saying, »Lord do not trouble yourself. I am not worthy that you should come under my roof.
6 Então Jesus foi com eles. Porém, quando já estava perto da casa, o oficial romano mandou alguns amigos dizerem a Jesus: — Senhor, não se incomode, pois eu não mereço que entre na minha casa.
7 »I am also not worthy to come to you. Just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
7 E acho também que não mereço a honra de falar pessoalmente com o senhor. Dê somente uma ordem, e o meu empregado ficará bom.
8 »I also am a man with much authority. I am in charge of soldiers and say to this one go and he goes and to another I say come and he comes. I tell my servant to do this and he does it.«
8 Eu também estou debaixo da autoridade de oficiais superiores e tenho soldados que obedecem às minhas ordens. Digo para um: “Vá lá”, e ele vai. Digo para outro: “Venha cá”, e ele vem. E digo também para o meu empregado: “Faça isto”, e ele faz.
9 Jesus heard this and marveled at him. He turned to the crowd and said, »I tell you I find no greater faith in Israel.«
9 Jesus ficou muito admirado quando ouviu isso. Então virou-se e disse para a multidão que o seguia:
10 When the messengers returned to the house they found the servant in good health.
10 Aí os amigos do oficial voltaram para a casa dele e encontraram o empregado curado.
11 After that he, his disciples and a great crowd went to a city called Nain.
11 Pouco tempo depois Jesus foi para uma cidade chamada Naim. Os seus discípulos e uma grande multidão foram com ele.
12 When he came near the gate of the city he saw people carrying a dead person. It was the only son of a widow. Many people were with her.
12 Quando ele estava chegando perto do portão da cidade, ia saindo um enterro. O defunto era filho único de uma viúva, e muita gente da cidade ia com ela.
13 When the Lord saw her he had sympathy for her. »Do not cry,« he said.
13 Quando o Senhor a viu, ficou com muita pena dela e disse:
14 He came near the casket and touched it. The bearers stood still. He said, »Young man arise.«
14 Então ele chegou mais perto e tocou no caixão. E os que o estavam carregando pararam. Então Jesus disse:
15 He who was dead sat up and spoke and he was returned to his mother.
15 O moço sentou-se no caixão e começou a falar, e Jesus o entregou à mãe.
16 They were all afraid and they praised God. They said: »A great prophet has appeared among us. God has visited inspectedselected his people.«
16 Todos ficaram com muito medo e louvavam a Deus, dizendo: — Que grande
17 News about him went through out all Judea and around the region.
17 Essas notícias a respeito de Jesus se espalharam por todo o país e pelas regiões vizinhas.
18 The disciples of John told him the news.
18 Os discípulos de João Batista contaram tudo isso a ele. Aí João chamou dois deles
19 John sent two of his disciples to the Lord. They asked, »Should we look for another or are you the one?«
19 e os enviou ao Senhor Jesus para perguntarem: “O senhor é aquele que ia chegar ou devemos esperar outro?”
20 When the men found him they said: »John the Baptist sent us. Are you the one who comes or should we look for another?«
20 Então eles foram até o lugar onde Jesus estava e disseram: — João Batista nos mandou perguntar o seguinte: o senhor é aquele que ia chegar ou devemos esperar outro?
21 In that hour he cured many diseases, plagues and evil spirits. Sight was restored to the blind.
21 Naquele momento Jesus curou muitas pessoas das suas doenças e dos seus sofrimentos, expulsou espíritos maus e também curou muitos cegos.
22 He answered Johns disciples: »Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard. The blind receive their sight! The lame walk and lepers are cleansed. The deaf hear! The dead are raised up and the poor have good news preached to them.
22 Depois respondeu aos discípulos de João:
23 »Blessed is he who is not offended by me.«
23 E felizes são as pessoas que não duvidam de mim!
24 After Johns disciples departed he told the crowd about John: »What did you go into the wilderness to find? Was it a reed shaken with the wind?
24 Quando os discípulos de João foram embora, Jesus começou a dizer ao povo o seguinte a respeito de João:
25 »What did you go to see, a man clothed in fancy clothes? Only kings dress in fancy clothes.
25 O que foram ver? Um homem bem-vestido? Ora, os que se vestem bem e vivem no luxo moram nos palácios!
26 »What did you go out to see, a prophet? Yes I tell you and much more than a prophet.
26 Então me digam: o que foram ver? Um
27 »This is he of whom it is written, Behold I send my messenger before you. He will prepare a way before you.
27 Porque João é aquele a respeito de quem as
28 »I say to you, of those who are born of women there is none greater than John. Yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.«
28 — Eu digo a vocês que de todos os homens que já nasceram João é o maior. Porém quem é o menor no
29 When the people heard, they acknowledged Gods justice. They received their baptism from John.
29 Os cobradores de impostos e todo o povo ouviram isso. Eles eram aqueles que haviam obedecido às ordens justas de Deus e tinham sido batizados por João.
30 The Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God and were not baptized by him.
30 Mas os fariseus e os mestres da Lei não quiseram ser batizados por João e assim rejeitaram o plano de Deus para eles.
31 »To whom or what should I compare the men of this generation?
31 E Jesus terminou, dizendo:
32 They are like children that sit in the marketplace and call to each other. We played the flute for you but you did not dance. We wailed and you did not weep.
32 Elas são como crianças sentadas na praça. Um grupo grita para o outro:
33 »John the Baptist came fasting and drinking no wine and you say he has a demon.
33 João Batista jejua e não bebe vinho, e vocês dizem: “Ele está dominado por um demônio.”
34 »The Son of man came eating and drinking, and you say look he is a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!

35 »All her children vindicate wisdom.«
35 Mas aqueles que aceitam a sabedoria de Deus mostram que ela é verdadeira.
36 One of the Pharisees asked him to dine with him. He went to the Pharisees house and sat down to eat.
36 Um fariseu convidou Jesus para jantar. Jesus foi até a casa dele e sentou-se para comer.
37 A sinful woman went to the Pharisees house. She brought an alabaster vase filled with ointment.
37 Naquela cidade morava uma mulher de má fama. Ela soube que Jesus estava jantando na casa do fariseu. Então pegou um frasco feito de alabastro , cheio de perfume,
38 Standing by his feet weeping, she wet his feet with her tears. She wiped them with the hair of her head. Then she kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.
38 e ficou aos pés de Jesus, por trás. Ela chorava e as suas lágrimas molhavam os pés dele. Então ela os enxugou com os seus próprios cabelos. Ela beijava os pés de Jesus e derramava o perfume neles.
39 The Pharisee saw it and thought to himself if this man were a prophet he would know what kind of woman touched him. She is a sinner.
39 Quando o fariseu viu isso, pensou assim: “Se este homem fosse, de fato, um profeta , saberia quem é esta mulher que está tocando nele e a vida de pecado que ela leva.”
40 Jesus said to Simon: »I have something to tell you.« He replied: »What teacher?«
40 Jesus então disse ao fariseu: — Fale, Mestre! — respondeu Simão.
41 »A certain lender had two debtors. One owed five hundred shillings and the other fifty.
41 Jesus disse:
42 »They did not have money to pay the debt so he forgave them both. Which of them did he love the most?«
42 mas nenhum dos dois podia pagar ao homem que havia emprestado. Então ele perdoou a dívida de cada um. Qual deles vai estimá-lo mais?
43 Simon answered: »I suppose it was the one whom he forgave the most.« Jesus said: »Your judgment is correct.«
43 — Eu acho que é aquele que foi mais perdoado! — respondeu Simão.
44 Turning to the woman, he said to Simon: »See this woman? I entered into your house and you gave me no water for my feet. She watered my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair.
44 Então virou-se para a mulher e disse a Simão:
45 »You did not kiss me. Since the time I came in she has not ceased kissing my feet.
45 Você não me beijou quando cheguei; ela, porém, não para de beijar os meus pés desde que entrei.
46 »You did not anoint my head with oil. She anointed my feet with ointment.
46 Você não pôs azeite perfumado na minha cabeça , porém ela derramou perfume nos meus pés.
47 »She loved much! She has many sins and they are forgiven. When little is forgiven, little love is shown.«
47 Eu afirmo a você, então, que o grande amor que ela mostrou prova que os seus muitos pecados já foram perdoados. Mas onde pouco é perdoado, pouco amor é mostrado.
48 He said to her: »Your sins are forgiven!«
48 Então Jesus disse à mulher:
49 Those who ate with him said within themselves: »Who is this who even forgives sins?«
49 Os que estavam sentados à mesa começaram a perguntar: — Que homem é esse que até perdoa pecados?
50 He said to the woman: »You are saved because of your faith. Go in peace.«
50 Mas Jesus disse à mulher:
