1 All the army leaders, including Johanan son of Kareah and Azariah son of Hoshaiah, came with people of every class.
1 Foram, então, todos os oficiais, Joanã, filho de Carée, e Jesonias, filho de Osaías, bem como o povo, desde os grandes até os pequenos,
2 They said to me: »Please do what we ask you! Pray to Jehovah our God for us. Pray for all of us who have survived. Once there were many of us. Now there are only a few of us left, as you can see.
2 dizer ao profeta Jeremias: Ouve a nossa súplica, e intercede por nós, junto ao Senhor, em favor do que resta de nós. De muitos que éramos, bem podes ver a quão poucos fomos reduzidos.
3 »Pray that Jehovah our God will show us the way we should go and what we should do.«
3 Que o Senhor, teu Deus, nos indique o caminho que devemos seguir e o que devemos fazer.
4 I answered: »Very well, then. I will pray to Jehovah our God, just as you have asked. I will tell you what he says. I will not keep back anything from you.«
4 Ouço o que me dizeis, respondeu Jeremias, e o que desejais vou solicitar ao Senhor, vosso Deus. O que me disser o Senhor vo-lo transmitirei fielmente.
5 Then they said to me: »May Jehovah be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not obey all the commandments that Jehovah our God gives you for us.
5 Clamaram então: Que o Senhor seja testemunha fiel e verdadeira contra nós se não fizermos o que o Senhor, teu Deus, te encarregar de nos transmitir!
6 »Whether it pleases us or not, we will obey Jehovah our God, to whom we are asking you to pray. All will go well with us if we obey him.«
6 Seja-nos favorável ou adverso, obedeceremos à ordem do Senhor, nosso Deus, junto ao qual te delegamos a fim de que nos seja propícia a submissão às ordens do Senhor, nosso Deus.
7 Ten days later Jehovah spoke to me.
7 Decorridos dez dias, a palavra do Senhor foi dirigida a Jeremias.
8 I called together Johanan, all the army leaders who were with him, and all the other people.
8 Convocou este então Joanã, filho de Carée, todos os oficiais e o povo, grandes e pequenos.
9 I said to them, »Jehovah, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me with your request said:
9 Eis, disse-lhes Jeremias, o que me falou o Senhor Deus de Israel, junto ao qual me delegastes a fim de apresentar-lhe a vossa súplica:
10 If you are willing to go on living in this land I will build you up and not tear you down. I will plant you and not uproot you. The destruction I brought on you has caused me great sorrow.
10 se quiserdes permanecer nesta terra, nela vos restaurarei, e não vos destruirei. Plantar-vos-ei e dela não vos arrancarei. Pesa-me o mal que vos fiz.
11 Stop being afraid of the king of Babylon. I am with you. I will rescue you from his power.
11 Não tenhais receio do rei de Babilônia que tanto temeis! Não o temais - oráculo do Senhor -, porque estou convosco para salvar-vos e livrar-vos de suas mãos.
12 For the reason that I am merciful, I will make him have mercy on you and let you go back home. I Jehovah have spoken.
12 Conseguir-vos-ei as suas graças, e ele terá piedade de vós, devolvendo-vos a posse de vossa terra.
13 »If you say: »We will not stay in this land, and you disobey Jehovah your God.«
13 Se, porém, desobedecendo à voz do Senhor, disserdes: não permaneceremos aqui;
14 Then you say: »We will go to Egypt, where we will not have to see war, hear the sound of a ram's horn, or be hungry. We will stay there.«
14 iremos para o Egito, onde não teremos mais guerras, nem ouviremos mais o som da trombeta e onde o pão não nos faltará mais, e lá nos instalaremos -,
15 Listen to the word of Jehovah, you people who are left in Judah. This is what Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: »Suppose you are determined to go to Egypt, and you go and live there.
15 então, escutai a palavra do Senhor, sobreviventes de Judá. Eis o que disse o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: obstinando-vos em partir para o Egito, a fim de lá habitar,
16 »Then the war that you fear will overtake you, and the hunger you dread will follow you, and you will die there in Egypt.
16 sereis atingidos no Egito pela espada que temeis, pela fome que vos aterroriza, e lá morrereis.
17 »All the people who are determined to go and live in Egypt will die either in war or of starvation or disease. Not one of them will survive, not one will escape the disaster that I am going to bring on them.«
17 Quantos se obstinarem em ir para o Egito perecerão pela espada, fome e peste, e nenhum escapará ao flagelo que contra eles lançarei.
18 »Jehovah, the God of Israel, says: Just as my anger and fury were poured out on the people of Jerusalem, so my fury will be poured out on you if you go to Egypt. You will be a horrifying sight. People will make fun of you and use your name as a curse. You will never see this place again.
18 Porquanto, eis o que diz o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: assim como o furor de minha cólera se lançou sobre os habitantes de Jerusalém, também contra vós se lançará, se fordes para o Egito. Servireis de exemplo de execração, sereis objeto de horror, de maldição e vergonha, e jamais tornareis a ver esses lugares.
19 »Then I continued: Jehovah has told you people who are left in Judah not to go to Egypt. And so I warn you now.
19 Eis o que vos diz o Senhor, sobreviventes de Judá: não entreis no Egito, e sabei que hoje vos dou solene aviso.
20 »You are making a fatal mistake. You asked me to pray to Jehovah our God for you, and you promised that you would do everything that he commands.
20 Seria enganar-vos a vós mesmos o delegar-me junto ao Senhor, vosso Deus, dizendo: intercedei por nós junto ao Senhor, nosso Deus. Faremos quanto disserdes que nos foi ordenado pelo Senhor, nosso Deus.
21 »Now I have told you, but you are disobeying everything that Jehovah our God sent me to tell you.
21 Hoje eu vo-lo digo: não escutastes a voz do Senhor, vosso Deus, nem coisa alguma do que me encarregou de transmitir-vos.
22 »So then, remember this: you will die in war or of starvation or disease in the land where you want to go and live.«
22 Sabei, pois, que morrereis pela espada, fome e peste nessa terra onde quereis ir estabelecer-vos.
