2 Samuel 11

1 In the spring, at the time of the year when kings usually go to war, David sent out Joab with his officers and the Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged the city of Rabbah. David stayed in Jerusalem.
1 No começo do ano, época em que os reis costumavam ir à guerra, Davi enviou Joabe e as tropas israelitas para lutarem contra os amonitas. Eles destruíram o exército inimigo e cercaram a cidade de Rabá. Mas Davi ficou em Jerusalém.
2 Late one afternoon, David got up from his nap and went to the palace roof. He walked around on the roof. He saw a woman taking a bath. She was very beautiful.
2 Certa tarde, Davi se levantou da cama depois de seu descanso e foi caminhar pelo terraço do palácio. Enquanto olhava do terraço, reparou numa mulher muito bonita que tomava banho.
3 He sent a messenger to find out who she was. He learned that she was Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.
3 Davi mandou alguém para descobrir quem era a mulher. Disseram-lhe: “É Bate-Seba, filha de Eliã e esposa de Urias, o hitita”.
4 So David sent messengers to get her. She came to him and they had sexual intercourse. She had just cleansed herself after her monthly period. Then she went home.
4 Então Davi enviou mensageiros para que a trouxessem, e teve relações com ela. Bate-Seba havia acabado de completar o ritual de purificação depois da menstruação. E ela voltou para casa.
5 The woman became pregnant. So she sent someone to tell David that she was pregnant.
5 Passado algum tempo, quando Bate-Seba descobriu que estava grávida, enviou um mensageiro a Davi para lhe dizer: “Estou grávida”.
6 David sent a messenger to Joab, saying: »Send me Uriah the Hittite.« So Joab sent Uriah to David.
6 Então Davi mandou uma mensagem para Joabe: “Envie-me Urias, o hitita”, e Joabe o enviou a Davi.
7 When Uriah arrived, David asked him how Joab and the troops were and how the war was going.
7 Quando Urias chegou, Davi perguntou como estavam Joabe e o exército e como ia a guerra.
8 »Go home,« David said to Uriah, »and wash your feet.« Uriah left the royal palace, and the king sent a present to him.
8 Então disse a Urias: “Vá para casa e descanse”. Depois que Urias deixou o palácio, Davi lhe enviou um presente.
9 But Uriah slept at the entrance of the royal palace among his superiors mercenaries. He did not go home.
9 Urias, porém, não foi para casa. Passou a noite na entrada do palácio com os guardas do rei.
10 Someone told David that Uriah did not go home. So the next morning David asked him: »Why did you not go home? Have you been away for a long time?«
10 Quando Davi soube que Urias não tinha ido para casa, mandou chamá-lo e perguntou: “O que aconteceu? Depois de ter ficado tanto tempo fora, por que você não foi para casa ontem à noite?”.
11 Uriah answered: »The Ark of the Covenant and the armies of Israel and Judah are camping out somewhere in the fields with our commander Joab and his officers and troops. Do you think I would go home to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? I swear by your life that I would not!«
11 Urias respondeu: “A arca e os exércitos de Israel e de Judá estão em tendas, e Joabe, meu comandante, e seus soldados estão acampados ao ar livre. Como eu poderia ir para casa para beber, comer e dormir com minha mulher? Juro diante do rei que jamais faria uma coisa dessas”.
12 David said: »Stay here in Jerusalem and I will send you back tomorrow.« Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next day.
12 Então Davi lhe disse: “Pois bem. Fique aqui hoje, e amanhã poderá retornar”. Urias ficou em Jerusalém aquele dia e o dia seguinte.
13 David invited him for dinner. Uriah ate with David and drank so much that he got drunk. However he still did not go home. He went out and slept on his mat near the palace guards.
13 Davi o convidou para jantar e o embriagou. Outra vez, porém, ele dormiu numa esteira, com os guardas do rei, e não foi para sua casa.
14 The next morning, David wrote a letter and told Uriah to deliver it to Joab.
14 Na manhã seguinte, Davi escreveu uma carta para Joabe e mandou Urias entregá-la.
15 The letter said: »Put Uriah on the front line where the fighting is the worst. Pull the troops back from him, so that he will be wounded and die.«
15 A carta continha a seguinte instrução: “Coloque Urias na linha de frente, onde o combate estiver mais intenso. Depois, recue para que ele seja morto”.
16 Joab carefully watched the city of Rabbah. He put Uriah in a place where he knew there were some of the enemys best soldiers.
16 Então Joabe colocou Urias numa posição próxima do muro da cidade, onde sabia que estavam os principais guerreiros do inimigo.
17 The men of the city came out and fought Joab. Some of Davids mercenaries fell and died. This included Uriah the Hittite.
17 Quando os soldados inimigos saíram da cidade para lutar, Urias, o hitita, foi morto junto com muitos outros soldados israelitas.
18 Joab sent a messenger to report to David all the details of the battle.
18 Joabe enviou a Davi um relatório da batalha.
19 And he commanded the messenger: »When you finish telling the king about the battle,
19 Disse a seu mensageiro: “Conte ao rei tudo que aconteceu na batalha.
20 the king may become angry. He might ask you: Why did you go so close to the city to fight? Did you not know they would shoot from the wall?
20 Pode ser que ele fique irado e pergunte: ‘Por que as tropas se aproximaram tanto da cidade? Não sabiam que atirariam contra eles dos muros?
21 »Who killed Jerubbesheths son Abimelech? Did a woman on the wall of Thebez throw a small millstone at him and kill him? Why did you go so close to the wall? If the king asks this, tell him: Your man Uriah the Hittite is also dead.«
21 Acaso Abimeleque, filho de Gideão, não foi morto em Tebes por uma mulher que atirou uma pedra de moinho do alto da muralha? Por que chegaram tão perto dos muros?’. Então diga-lhe: ‘Seu soldado Urias, o hitita, também foi morto’”.
22 The messenger left. When he arrived he reported to David everything Joab told him to say.
22 O mensageiro foi a Jerusalém e deu um relatório completo a Davi.
23 The messenger said to David: »Their men overpowered us when they came to attack us in the field. Then we forced them back to the entrance of the city gate.
23 “O inimigo saiu contra nós em campo aberto”, disse o mensageiro. “Quando os perseguíamos de volta até o portão da cidade,
24 »The archers on the wall shot down at your mercenaries. Some of Your Majestys mercenaries died. Your man Uriah the Hittite also is dead.«
24 os arqueiros no alto do muro atiraram flechas contra nós. Alguns dos homens do rei foram mortos; entre eles estava Urias, o hitita.”
25 David replied: »This is what you are to say to Joab: Do not let this thing trouble you. After all a sword can kill one person as easily as another. Strengthen your attack against the city, and destroy it. Say this to encourage him.«
25 Davi respondeu: “Diga a Joabe que não desanime. A espada devora este hoje e aquele amanhã. Lutem bravamente e conquistem a cidade!”.
26 Uriahs wife heard that her husband was dead and she mourned for him.
26 Quando a esposa de Urias soube que seu marido havia morrido, chorou por ele.
27 When her mourning was over, David sent for her and brought her to his home. She became his wife. Then she gave birth to a son. However, Jehovah considered Davids actions evil.
27 Terminado o período de luto, Davi mandou trazê-la para o palácio. Ela se tornou uma de suas esposas e deu à luz um filho. Mas o que Davi fez desagradou o S enhor .
