1 The widow of a member of a group of prophets said to Elisha: »My husband has died! As you know, he was a man who respected God. A man to whom he owed money came to take away my two sons as slaves in payment for my husband's debt.«
1 Ora, clamou ali uma certa mulher das esposas dos filhos dos profetas a Eliseu, dizendo: O teu servo, o meu marido, está morto; e tu sabes que o teu servo, verdadeiramente, temia o SENHOR; e o credor veio para levar consigo os meus dois filhos para serem servos.
2 Elisha said: »Tell me what shall I do for you? What do you have at home?« She answered: »Except for a small jar of olive oil, I have nothing.«
2 E Eliseu disse a ela: O que farei por ti? Conta-me, o que tens tu na tua casa? E ela disse: A tua criada não tem nada na casa, além de uma botija de azeite.
3 »Ask your neighbors for empty jars. Borrow as many as you can,« Elisha told her.
3 Então ele disse: Vai, pede para ti vasos emprestados, de todos os teus vizinhos, vasos vazios; não peças poucos.
4 »You and your sons go into the house and shut the door behind you. Pour oil into the jars. Set each one aside as soon as it is full.«
4 E, quando tu entrares, fecharás a porta diante de ti e diante dos teus filhos, e derramarás dentro de todos os vasos, e tu porás de lado aquele que estiver cheio.
5 The woman went into her house with her sons. They closed the door and took the small jar of olive oil, and poured oil into the jars as her sons brought them to her.
5 Assim, ela se foi diante dele, e fechou a porta diante de si e dos filhos que trouxeram os vasos para ela; e ela derramou.
6 When the jars were full she asked if there were any more. »That was the last one,« one of her sons told her. So the olive oil stopped flowing.
6 E sucedeu que, quando os vasos estavam cheios, ela disse ao seu filho: Traz mais um vaso. E ele lhe disse: Não há mais vaso. E o azeite parou.
7 She returned to Elisha, the prophet. He said: »Sell the olive oil and pay all your debts. There will be enough money left over for you and your sons to pay your living expenses.«
7 Então ela veio e disse ao homem de Deus. E ele disse: Vai, vende o azeite, e paga a tua dívida, e vive, tu e os teus filhos, do restante.
8 Elisha went to Shunem, where a rich woman lived. She invited him to a meal. From that time on every time he went to Shunem he would have his meals at her house.
8 E ocorreu, um dia, que Eliseu passou até Suném, onde estava uma mulher influente; e ela o constrangeu a comer pão. E assim foi, que, toda vez que ele por ali passava, ele para ali se desviava e entrava para comer pão.
9 She said to her husband: »I know that this man who comes here often is a holy man.
9 E ela disse ao seu marido: Eis que, agora, eu percebo que este é um homem santo de Deus, o qual sempre passa por nós.
10 »Let us build a small room on the roof, and put a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp in it. He can stay there when he visits us.«
10 Façamos uma pequena câmara, rogo-te, na parede; e coloquemos ali para ele uma cama, e uma mesa, e um banco, e um candelabro; e será, quando ele vier até nós, para que ele possa para ali se desviar.
11 One day Elisha returned to Shunem and went to his room to rest.
11 E ocorreu, um dia, que ele veio ali, e desviou-se para dentro da câmara, e ali se deitou.
12 He told his servant Gehazi to call the woman. When she came,
12 E ele disse a Geazi, o seu servo: Chama essa sunamita. E quando ele a havia chamado, ela se pôs diante dele.
13 he said to Gehazi: »Ask her what I can do for her in return for all the trouble she has had in providing for our needs. Maybe she would like me to go to the king or the army commander and put in a good word for her.« »I have all I need here among my own people,« she answered.
13 E ele lhe disse: Diz agora a ela: Eis que tu tens sido cuidadosa para conosco com todo este cuidado; o que há de ser feito por ti? Desejarias tu ser recomendada ao rei, ou ao capitão do exército? E ela respondeu: Eu habito no meio do meu próprio povo.
14 Elisha asked Gehazi: »What can I do for her?« He answered: »She has no son, and her husband is an old man.«
14 E ele disse: O que, então, há de ser feito por ela? E Geazi respondeu: Verdadeiramente, ela não tem filho, e o seu marido é velho.
15 »Tell her to come here,« Elisha ordered. She came and stood in the doorway.
15 E ele disse: Chama-a. E quando ele a havia chamado, ela se pôs à porta.
16 Elisha said to her: »By this time next year you will hold a son in your arms.« »Please do not lie to me. You are a man of God!« She said.
16 E ele disse: Por volta deste tempo, segundo o tempo da vida, tu abraçarás um filho. E ela disse: Não, meu senhor, tu, homem de Deus, não mintas à tua criada.
17 Just as Elisha said, about that time the following year she gave birth to a son.
17 E a mulher concebeu e deu à luz um filho naquele tempo que Eliseu havia dito a ela, segundo o tempo da vida.
18 Years later at harvest time, the boy went out one morning to join his father, who was in the field with the harvest workers.
18 E, quando o filho estava crescido, ocorreu, um dia, que ele saiu até ao seu pai, aos ceifeiros.
19 Suddenly he cried out to his father: »My head hurts! My head hurts!« »Carry the boy to his mother,« the father said to a servant.
19 E ele disse ao seu pai: Minha cabeça, minha cabeça! E ele disse a um moço: Carregai-o até a sua mãe.
20 The servant carried the boy back to his mother. She held him in her lap until noon. Then the boy died.
20 E, quando ele lhe havia levado, e trazido até a sua mãe, ele se assentou sobre os joelhos dela até o meio-dia, e, então, morreu.
21 She carried him up to Elisha's room and put him on the bed. She closed the door behind her and left.
21 E ela subiu, e o deitou na cama do homem de Deus, e fechou a porta diante dele, e saiu.
22 She called her husband and said to him: »Send a servant here with a donkey. I need to go to the prophet Elisha. I will be back as soon as I can.«
22 E ela chamou o seu marido, e disse: Rogo-te que me envies um dos moços e um dos jumentos, para que eu possa correr até ao homem de Deus, e retornar.
23 »Why must you go today?« Her husband asked. »It is neither a Sabbath nor a New Moon Festival.« She replied: »Never mind.«
23 E ele disse: Por que irás a ele hoje? Não é nem lua nova, nem shabat. E ela disse: Isto será bom.
24 She had the donkey saddled, and ordered the servant: »Make the donkey go as fast as it can. Do not slow down unless I tell you.«
24 Ela, então, selou um jumento, e disse ao seu servo: Conduz, e segue adiante; não detenhas a tua cavalgada por minha causa, exceto se eu to pedir.
25 She left for Mount Carmel, where Elisha was. Elisha saw her coming while she was still far off. He said to his servant Gehazi: »Look, there comes the woman from Shunem!
25 Assim, ela foi e chegou até ao homem de Deus no monte Carmelo. E sucedeu que, quando o homem de Deus a viu ao longe, ele disse a Geazi, o seu servo: Eis que acolá está aquela sunamita;
26 »Hurry to her and find out if everything is all right with her and her family.« She told Gehazi that everything was all right,
26 corre agora, rogo-te, para encontrá-la, e diz a ela: Está bem contigo? Está bem com o teu marido? Está bem com o filho? E ela respondeu: Está bem.
27 but when she came to Elisha, she bowed down before him and took hold of his feet. Gehazi was about to push her away. Elisha said: »Do not bother her. You can see she is deeply distressed. Jehovah has not told me a thing about it.«
27 E quando ela chegou até ao homem de Deus no outeiro, ela o agarrou pelos pés; mas Geazi se aproximou para afastá-la. E o homem de Deus disse: Deixa-a por si; porque a sua alma está atormentada dentro dela; e o SENHOR ocultou isso de mim, e não me contou.
28 The woman said to him: »Did I ask you for a son? Did I not tell you not to get my hopes up?«
28 Então, ela disse: Pedi eu um filho ao meu senhor? Não disse eu: Não me enganes?
29 Elisha told Gehazi:« Hurry! Take my walking stick. Do not stop to talk to anyone. If anyone speaks to you do not respond. Go straight to the house and hold my stick over the boy.«
29 Então, ele disse a Geazi: Cinge os teus lombos, e toma o meu bordão na tua mão, e vai pelo teu caminho; se tu encontrares qualquer homem, não o saúdes; e se algum te saudar, não o respondas de volta; e deita o meu bordão sobre a face da criança.
30 The woman said to Elisha:« I swear by my loyalty to the living God Jehovah and to you that I will not leave you! So the two of them started back together. »
30 E a mãe da criança disse: Como vive o SENHOR, e como vive a tua alma; não te deixarei. E ele se levantou e a seguiu.
31 Gehazi went ahead and held Elisha's stick over the child. There was no sound or any other sign of life. He returned to meet Elisha and said: »The boy did not wake up.«
31 E Geazi passou adiante deles, e pôs o bordão sobre a face da criança; porém não houve nem voz, nem audição. Porquanto ele foi, novamente, encontrá-lo e lhe contou, dizendo: O menino não está acordado.
32 When Elisha arrived he went alone into the room. He saw the boy lying dead on the bed.
32 E, quando Eliseu, havia entrado na casa, eis que o menino estava morto, e deitado sobre a sua cama.
33 He closed the door and prayed to Jehovah.
33 Ele, portanto, entrou e fechou a porta diante de ambos, e orou ao SENHOR.
34 Then he lay down on the boy, placing his mouth, eyes, and hands on the boy's mouth, eyes, and hands. As he lay stretched out over the boy, the boy's body started to get warm.
34 E ele subiu, e deitou-se sobre a criança, e pôs a sua boca sobre boca dele, e os seus olhos sobre os olhos dele, e as suas mãos sobre as mãos dele; e estendeu-se sobre a criança; e a carne da criança ficou morna.
35 Elisha got up and walked around the room. He returned and again stretched himself over the boy. The boy sneezed seven times and then opened his eyes.
35 Depois, ele retornou e andou de um lado para o outro dentro da casa; e subiu, e estendeu-se sobre ele; e a criança espirrou sete vezes, e a criança abriu os seus olhos.
36 Elisha called Gehazi and told him to call the boy's mother. When she came in, he said to her: »Take your son!«
36 E ele chamou Geazi, e disse: Chama essa sunamita. Assim, ele a chamou. E, quando ela havia entrado diante dele, ele disse: Toma o teu filho.
37 She fell at Elisha's feet with her face on the ground. Then she took her son and left.
37 Então, ela entrou, e caiu aos seus pés, e se curvou até ao chão, e tomou o seu filho, e saiu.
38 When there was a famine throughout the land, Elisha returned to Gilgal. He was teaching a group of prophets. He told his servant to put a big pot on the fire and make some stew for them.
38 E Eliseu voltou, novamente, a Gilgal; e houve uma fome na terra; e os filhos dos profetas estavam assentados diante dele; e ele disse ao seu servo: Prepara a panela grande e cozinha uma sopa para os filhos dos profetas.
39 One of them went out in the fields to gather herbs. He found a wild vine and picked as many gourds as he could carry. He brought them back and sliced them into the stew, not knowing what they were.
39 E um saiu ao campo para colher ervas, e encontrou uma parra brava, e dela colheu cabaças bravas que encheram o seu regaço, e veio e as desfiou na panela de sopa; porque eles não as conheciam.
40 The stew was poured out for the men to eat. They tasted it and exclaimed to Elisha: »It is poisoned!« They would not eat it.
40 Assim, eles derramaram para que os homens comessem. E sucedeu, enquanto eles estavam comendo a sopa, que eles gritaram e disseram: Ó tu homem de Deus, há morte na panela. E eles não puderam dela comer.
41 Elisha asked for some meal. He threw it into the pot and said: »Pour out some more stew for them.« Then there was nothing wrong with it.
41 Mas ele disse: Então, trazei comida. E ele a lançou na panela; e ele disse: Derramai para o povo, para que possam comer. E não havia mais mal na panela.
42 A man came from Baal Shalishah. He brought Elisha twenty loaves of bread made from the first barley harvested that year and some freshly cut heads of grain. Elisha told his servant to feed the group of prophets with this.
42 E veio ali um homem de Baal-Salisa, e trouxe ao homem de Deus pão das primícias, vinte bolos de cevada, e espigas cheias de milho no seu alforje. E ele disse: Dá ao povo para que possa comer.
43 He asked: »How am I to feed a hundred hungry men with this?« Elisha replied: »Give it to them to eat, because Jehovah says that they will eat and still have some left over.« (Matthew 14:20)
43 E o seu servo disse: Como deverei eu pôr isto diante de uma centena de homens? Ele disse novamente: Dá ao povo, para que possa comer; porque assim diz o SENHOR: Eles comerão, e deixarão sobra.
44 So the servant set the food before them. Just as Jehovah said, they ate and had some left over.
44 Assim, os pôs diante deles, e comeram, e deixaram sobra, segundo a palavra do SENHOR.
