1 Hezekiah son of Ahaz became king of Judah. It was in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel.
1 No terceiro ano do reinado de Oséias, filho de Ela, rei de Israel, Ezequias, filho de Acaz, rei de Judá, começou a reinar.
2 Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years. His mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
2 Tinha vinte e cinco anos quando subiu ao trono, e reinou durante vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe chamava-se Abi, filha de Zacarias.
3 He did what was right in the eyes of Jehovah as David his father had done.
3 Fez o que é bom aos olhos do Senhor, como Davi, seu pai.
4 He removed the high places. He broke the stone pillars to bits, and cut down the Asherah poles. The brass snake that Moses had made was crushed to powder at his command, because in those days the children of Israel had offerings burned before it, and he gave it the name Nehushtan.
4 Destruiu os lugares altos, quebrou as estelas e cortou os ídolos de pau asserás. Despedaçou a serpente de bronze que Moisés tinha feito, porque os israelitas tinham até então queimado incenso diante dela. {Chamavam-na Nehustã}.
5 Hezekiah had faith in Jehovah, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah who were before him.
5 Ezequias pusera sua confiança no Senhor, Deus de Israel; não houve outro como ele, entre todos os reis de Judá, tanto entre os predecessores como entre seus sucessores.
6 For his heart was fixed on Jehovah. He did not turn from his ways. Hezekiah obeyed Jehovahs commandments that Jehovah gave to Moses.
6 Conservou-se unido ao Senhor, e nunca se desviou dele, e observou todos os mandamentos que o Senhor prescreveu a Moisés.
7 Jehovah was with Hezekiah. He did well in everything he did. He took up arms against the king of Assyria and was his servant no longer.
7 Por isso o Senhor esteve com ele e fê-lo bem sucedido em todos os seus empreendimentos. Ezequias rebelou-se contra o rei da Assíria e livrou-se de sua soberania.
8 He defeated the Philistines as far as Gaza and its limits, from the tower of the watchman to the walled town.
8 Bateu os filisteus até Gaza, devastando o seu território desde as simples torres de guarda, até as cidades fortificadas.
9 It was the fourth year of King Hezekiah, the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel. Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and laid siege to it.
9 No quarto ano do reinado de Ezequias, que correspondia ao sétimo do reinado de Oséias, filho de Ela, rei de Israel, Salmanasar, rei da Assíria, veio e sitiou Samaria.
10 It was captured at the end of three years. Samaria was taken in the sixth year of Hezekiah's rule, which was the ninth year of Hoshea, king of Israel.
10 No fim de três anos apoderou-se dela. Samaria foi tomada no sexto ano de Ezequias, que correspondia ao nono ano do reinado de Oséias, rei de Israel.
11 The king of Assyria took Israel away as prisoners into Assyria. They placed them in Halah and in Habor on the river Gozan, and in towns of the Medes.
11 O rei da Assíria deportou os israelitas para a Assíria, e instalou-os em Hala, às margens do Habor, rio de Gozã, e nas cidades da Média.
12 They did not obey the voice of Jehovah their God. In fact they went against his agreement, even against everything ordered by Moses, the servant of Jehovah. They did not listen to or obey Jehovah.
12 Assim aconteceu porque eles não tinham escutado a voz do Senhor, seu Deus, mas tinham quebrado a sua aliança, recusando-se a ouvir e executar o que ordenara Moisés, servo do Senhor.
13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the walled towns of Judah and took them.
13 No décimo quarto ano do reinado de Ezequias, Senaquerib, rei da Assíria, veio e atacou todas as cidades fortes de Judá. tomando-as de assalto.
14 Hezekiah sent a message to Sennacherib at Lachish: »I have done wrong. Stop your attack and I will pay whatever you demand.« The emperor's answer was that Hezekiah should send him ten tons of silver and one ton of gold.
14 Então Ezequias, rei de Judá, mandou dizer ao rei da Assíria em Laquis: Cometi uma falta. Deixa de me atacar. Eu me submeterei a tudo o que me impuseres. O rei da Assíria impôs a Ezequias, rei de Judá, uma contribuição de trezentos talentos de prata e trinta talentos de ouro.
15 Hezekiah sent him all the silver in the Temple and in the palace treasury.
15 Ezequias entregou todo o dinheiro que se encontrava no templo do Senhor e nas reservas do palácio real.
16 Hezekiah had the gold from the doors of Jehovahs Temple and from the doorposts plated by him. He stripped it off and gave it to the king of Assyria.
16 Tirou também o revestimento de ouro que ele mesmo havia posto nas portas do templo do Senhor, e entregou tudo ao rei da Assíria.
17 The king of Assyria sent his commander-in-chief Tartan, his quartermaster, and his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They stood at the channel for the Upper Pool on the road to the Laundryman's Field.
17 O rei da Assíria enviou de Laquis contra Ezequias, em Jerusalém, o general do exército, o chefe dos eunucos e o copeiro-mor com um poderoso exército. Chegando a Jerusalém, detiveram-se no alto da costa, junto ao aqueduto do reservatório superior, que se encontra no caminho do campo do Pisoeiro.
18 They sent for the king, and Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to them.
18 E mandaram chamar ali o rei. Eliacim, filho de Helcias, prefeito do palácio, foi ter com eles, levando consigo o escriba Sobna e o cronista Joaé, filho de Asaf.
19 The Rabshakeh said to them: »Say to Hezekiah: These are the words of the great king, the king of Assyria: »In what are you placing your hope?
19 O copeiro-mor disse-lhe: Isto direis a Ezequias: Assim fala o grande rei, o rei da Assíria: De onde te vem tanta confiança?
20 »You say you have counsel and military strength for war. These are only words. To whom are you looking for support that you rebel against me?
20 Só dizes palavras vãs; o que se precisa na guerra é de prudência e bravura. Em que confias, para te revoltares contra mim?
21 »You rely on Egypt that broken reed of a staff. If a man leans on it relies on its power his hand strength will be pierced woundeddiminished. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who put their faith in him.
21 Já sei: pões tua confiança no Egito, esse caniço rachado que fere e traspassa a mão de quem nele se apóia; assim é o faraó, rei do Egito, para todos os que nele confiam.
22 »If you say to me: We trust in Jehovah our God, is he not the one whose high places and altars have been taken away by Hezekiah. For he told Judah and Jerusalem that worship may only be given before this altar in Jerusalem?
22 Dir-me-eis, sem dúvida, que vossa confiança está no Senhor, vosso Deus. Mas não é ele mesmo aquele deus, cujos altares e lugares altos Ezequias destruiu, dizendo aos homens de Judá e de Jerusalém: Só diante deste altar em Jerusalém vos prostrareis?
23 »And now, make an agreement with my master, the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able to put horsemen on them.
23 Faze, pois, um tratado com o meu soberano, o rei da Assíria, e eu te darei dois mil cavalos, se tiveres cavaleiros para os montar.
24 »How then can you put to shame the least of my master's servants? You put your hope in Egypt for chariots and horsemen:
24 Como poderás resistir diante de um só dos menores oficiais do meu soberano? Esperas que o Egito te forneça carros e cavaleiros?
25 »Have I now come to destroy this place without Jehovah? It was Jehovah who said to me: Go up against this land and make it waste.«
25 E mesmo porque foi porventura sem o consentimento do Senhor que eu ataquei esta cidade para destruí-la? Foi o Senhor quem me disse: Ataca e destrói esta terra.
26 Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and Shebna and Joah said to the Rabshakeh the commander: »Will you kindly make use of the Aramaean language in talking to your servants. We are used to it. Do not use the Jews' language in the hearing of the people on the wall.«
26 Eliacim, filho de Helcias, o escriba Sobna e Jael disseram ao copeiro-mor: Fala aos teus servos em aramaico, dialeto que compreendemos; não nos fales em hebraico, pois nos pode ouvir a multidão que está sobre a muralha.
27 He replied: »Do you think you and the king are the only ones the king sent me to say these things? No, I am also talking to the people who are sitting on the wall. They will have to eat their excrement and drink their own urine, just as you will.«
27 Mas o copeiro-mor replicou-lhe: Foi por acaso {unicamente} ao teu soberano e a ti que meu soberano me mandou dizer estas coisas? Não foi antes a toda essa multidão que está sobre os muros e está reduzida, como vós, a comer seus escrementos e a beber sua urina?
28 The official stood up and shouted in Hebrew: »Listen to what the king of Assyria is telling you!
28 Então o copeiro-mor avançou e pôs-se a gritar em hebraico: Ouvi o que diz o grande rei, o rei da Assíria!
29 »He warns you: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. Hezekiah cannot save you.
29 Isto diz o rei: Não vos deixeis seduzir por Ezequias; ele não vos poderá livrar de minhas mãos.
30 »Do not let Hezekiah convince you to rely on Jehovah. Do not think that Jehovah will save you or that he will stop our Assyrian army from capturing you.«
30 Não vos leve Ezequias a confiar no Senhor, dizendo que o Senhor vos livrará e que esta cidade não cairá nas mãos do rei da Assíria!
31 »Do not listen to Hezekiah. The king of Assyria commands you to come out of the city and surrender. Make peace with me and you will be allowed to eat grapes from your own vines and figs from your own trees, and to drink water from your own wells cisterns.
31 Não deis ouvidos ao rei Ezequias! Eis o que vos diz o rei da Assíria: Fazei a paz comigo. Rendei-vos, e cada um de vós poderá comer os frutos de sua vinha e de sua figueira, e beber a água do seu poço,
32 »The king will resettle you in a country much like your own. There are vineyards to give wine and there is grain for making bread there. It is a land of olives, olive oil, and honey. Do what he commands and you will not die. Do not let Hezekiah fool you into thinking Jehovah will rescue you.
32 até que eu venha e vos leve para uma terra semelhante à vossa, terra fértil em trigo e em vinho, terra de pão e de vinhas, terra de olivais, de óleo e de mel. Assim salvareis a vossa vida, sem temor de morrer. Não deis ouvidos a Ezequias, pois ele vos engana quando vos diz que o Senhor vos livrará!
33 »Did the gods of other nations save their countries from the king of Assyria?
33 Puderam porventura os deuses das outras nações livrá-las das mãos do rei da Assíria?
34 »Where are they now? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Did anyone save Samaria?
34 Onde estão os deuses de Emat e de Arfad? Onde estão os deuses de Sefarvaim, de Ana e de Ava? Livraram eles Samaria de minhas mãos?
35 »When did any of the gods of all these countries ever save their country from our king? What makes you think Jehovah can save Jerusalem?«
35 Quais são, entre todos os deuses dessas terras, os que salvaram o seu próprio país de minhas mãos, para que o Senhor possa salvar Jerusalém?
36 The people kept quiet. They did as King Hezekiah told them. They did not say a word.
36 O povo ouviu em silêncio; não lhe respondeu uma só palavra, porque o rei ordenara que não respondessem.
37 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah tore their clothes in grief. They reported to the king what the Assyrian official had said.
37 Eliacim, filho de Helcias, prefeito do palácio, o escriba Sobna e o cronista Joaé, filho de Asaf, voltaram a Ezequias com as vestes rasgadas e referiram-lhe as palavras do copeiro-mor.
