1 Jehoshaphat was wealthy and honorable. He became Ahabs in-law.
1 Josafá, muito rico e respeitado, aliou-se a Acabe por meio do casamento de seu filho com a filha de Acabe.
2 After that he went to visit Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered many sheep and cattle for a banquet in honor of Jehoshaphat and the people who were with him. Ahab persuaded Jehoshaphat to attack Ramoth in Gilead with him.
2 Alguns anos depois, foi a Samaria visitar Acabe, que ofereceu a ele e a seus oficiais um enorme banquete, para o qual abateu um grande número de ovelhas e bois. Então Acabe persuadiu Josafá a unir forças com ele para recuperar Ramote-Gileade.
3 He asked: »Will you go with me to attack Ramoth?« Jehoshaphat replied: »I am ready when you are. My army is ready. We will join you.«
3 Acabe, rei de Israel, perguntou a Josafá, rei de Judá: “Você irá comigo a Ramote-Gileade?”. Josafá respondeu: “Claro que sim! Você e eu somos como um só. Meus soldados são seus soldados. Certamente iremos com você à batalha!”.
4 He added: »But first let us consult Jehovah.«
4 E acrescentou: “Antes, porém, consulte o S enhor ”.
5 Ahab called in about four hundred prophets. He asked them: »Should I go and attack Ramoth, or not?« »Attack it,« they answered. »God will give you victory.«
5 Então o rei de Israel convocou os profetas, cerca de quatrocentos no total, e perguntou: “Devemos ir à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade ou não?”. Todos eles responderam: “Sim, devem! Deus entregará o inimigo nas mãos do rei”.
6 Jehoshaphat asked: »Is there another prophet through whom we can consult Jehovah?«
6 Josafá, porém perguntou: “Acaso não há aqui um profeta do S enhor ? Devemos consultá-lo também”.
7 Ahab answered: »There is one more. He is Micaiah son of Imlah. But I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me. It is always something bad.« Jehoshaphat replied: »You should not say that.«
7 O rei de Israel respondeu a Josafá: “Há mais um homem que pode consultar o S enhor para nós, mas eu o odeio, pois nunca profetiza nada de bom a meu respeito, só coisas ruins! Chama-se Micaías, filho de Inlá”. “O rei não devia falar assim”, respondeu Josafá.
8 Consequently King Ahab called in a court official and told him to go and get Micaiah at once.
8 Então o rei de Israel chamou um de seus oficiais e disse: “Traga Micaías, filho de Inlá. Rápido!”.
9 The two kings, dressed in their royal robes, sat on their thrones at the threshing place just outside the gate of Samaria. All the prophets were prophesying in front of them.
9 Vestidos com seus trajes reais, o rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, estavam sentados cada um em seu trono na eira junto à porta de Samaria. Todos os profetas estavam profetizando diante deles.
10 One of them, Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, made iron horns and said to Ahab: This is what Jehovah says: »With these you will fight the Syrians and totally defeat them.«
10 Um dos profetas, Zedequias, filho de Quenaaná, fez chifres de ferro e declarou: “Assim diz o S enhor : ‘Com estes chifres o rei ferirá os sírios até a morte!’”.
11 All the other prophets said the same thing. »March against Ramoth and you will win,« they said. Jehovah will give you victory.
11 Todos os outros profetas concordaram, dizendo: “Sim, suba a Ramote-Gileade e seja vitorioso, pois o S enhor a entregará nas mãos do rei!”.
12 The official who had gone to get Micaiah said to him: All the other prophets have prophesied success for the king. You had better do the same.
12 Enquanto isso, o mensageiro que foi buscar Micaías lhe disse: “Veja, todos os profetas prometem vitória para o rei. Concorde com eles e também prometa sucesso”.
13 But Micaiah answered: »By the living God Jehovah I will say what my God tells me to say.«
13 Micaías, porém, respondeu: “Tão certo como vive o S enhor , direi apenas o que meu Deus ordenar”.
14 When he appeared before King Ahab, the king asked him: »Micaiah, should King Jehoshaphat and I go and attack Ramoth, or not?« »Attack!« Micaiah answered. »You will win! Jehovah will give you victory.«
14 Quando Micaías chegou, o rei lhe perguntou: “Micaías, devemos ir à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade ou não?”. Micaías respondeu: “Sim, suba e será vitorioso, pois eles serão entregues em suas mãos!”.
15 Ahab replied: »When you speak to me in the name of Jehovah, tell the truth! How many times do I have to tell you that?«
15 Mas o rei disse: “Quantas vezes preciso exigir que diga somente a verdade quando falar em nome do S enhor ?”.
16 Micaiah answered: »I can see the army of Israel scattered over the hills like sheep without a shepherd.« Jehovah said: »These men have no leader. Let them go home in peace.«
16 Então Micaías respondeu: “Vi todo o Israel espalhado pelos montes, como ovelhas sem pastor. E o S enhor disse: ‘Seu líder foi morto. Mande-os para casa em paz’”.
17 Ahab said to Jehoshaphat: »I told you that he never prophesies anything good for me. It is always something bad!«
17 O rei de Israel disse a Josafá: “Não falei? Ele nunca profetiza nada de bom a meu respeito, mas apenas coisas ruins”.
18 Micaiah continued: »Now listen to what Jehovah says! I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne in heaven. All his angels were standing beside him.«
18 Micaías prosseguiu: “Ouça o que o S enhor diz! Vi o S enhor sentado em seu trono, com todo o exército do céu ao redor, à sua direita e à sua esquerda.
19 Jehovah asked: »Who will deceive Ahab so that he will go and get killed at Ramoth? Some of the angels said one thing, and others said something else,
19 E o S enhor perguntou: ‘Quem enganará Acabe, rei de Israel, para que vá à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade e seja morto ali?’. “Houve muitas sugestões,
20 until a spirit stepped forward, approached Jehovah,« and said: »I will deceive him.« »How?« Jehovah asked.
20 até que, por fim, um espírito se aproximou do S enhor e disse: ‘Eu o enganarei!’. “‘De que maneira?’, perguntou o S
21 The spirit replied: »I will go and make all of Ahabs prophets tell lies.« Jehovah said: »Go and deceive him. You will succeed.«
21 “E o espírito respondeu: ‘Sairei e porei um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas’. “O S
22 Micaiah concluded: »This is what has happened. Jehovah made these prophets of yours lie to you. But he has decreed that you will meet with disaster!«
22 “Como vê, o S enhor pôs um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas, pois o S enhor decretou sua desgraça”.
23 Then the prophet Zedekiah went up to Micaiah and slapped his face. He asked: »Since when did Jehovahs spirit leave me and speak to you?«
23 Então Zedequias, filho de Quenaaná, se aproximou de Micaías e lhe deu uma bofetada. “Como foi que o Espírito do S enhor me deixou para falar com você?”, perguntou ele.
24 »You will find out when you go into some back room to hide,« Micaiah replied.
24 Micaías respondeu: “Você descobrirá em breve, quando tentar se esconder em algum quarto secreto!”.
25 Then King Ahab ordered one of his officers: »Arrest Micaiah and take him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Prince Joash.«
25 Então o rei de Israel ordenou: “Prendam Micaías e levem-no de volta a Amom, governador da cidade, e a meu filho Joás,
26 Say: »This is what the king says: Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return home safely.«
26 com a seguinte ordem: ‘Ponham este homem na prisão e deem-lhe apenas pão e água até que eu volte da batalha em segurança!’”.
27 Micaiah said: »If you really do come back safely, then Jehovah was not speaking through me. Pay attention to this, everyone!«
27 Micaías, porém, respondeu: “Se voltar em segurança, significará que o S enhor não falou por meu intermédio!”. E acrescentou aos que estavam ao redor: “Todos vocês, prestem atenção às minhas palavras!”.
28 Thus the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to Ramoth in Gilead.
28 Então o rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, levaram seus exércitos para atacar Ramote-Gileade.
29 The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat: »I will disguise myself and go into battle. You, however, should wear your royal robes.« So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
29 O rei de Israel disse a Josafá: “Quando entrarmos no combate, usarei um disfarce para que ninguém me reconheça, mas você vestirá seus trajes reais”. O rei de Israel se disfarçou, e os dois foram à batalha.
30 The king of Aram gave orders to the chariot commanders. He said: »Do not fight anyone except the king of Israel.«
30 Enquanto isso, o rei da Síria tinha dado as seguintes ordens aos comandantes dos carros de guerra: “Ataquem somente o rei de Israel. Não lutem contra ninguém mais!”.
31 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said: »He must be the king of Israel.« So they surrounded him in order to fight him. When Jehoshaphat cried out Jehovah helped him. God drew them away from him.
31 Quando os comandantes dos carros de guerra sírios viram Josafá em seus trajes reais, foram atrás dele. “É o rei de Israel!”, disseram. Contudo, Josafá clamou, e o S enhor o salvou. Deus o ajudou e afastou dele seus inimigos.
32 Soon the chariot commanders realized that Jehoshaphat was not the king of Israel. Then they turned away from him.
32 Assim que os comandantes dos carros perceberam que ele não era o rei de Israel, pararam de persegui-lo.
33 One man aimed his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between his scale armor and his breastplate. Ahab told the chariot driver: »Turn around, and get me away from these troops for I am badly wounded.«
33 Então um soldado sírio disparou uma flecha a esmo e acertou o rei de Israel entre as juntas de sua armadura. “Dê a volta e tire-me daqui!”, exclamou Acabe para o condutor de seu carro. “Estou gravemente ferido!”
34 The battle raged on and King Ahab remained propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians. At sunset he died.
34 A batalha, cada vez mais violenta, prosseguiu durante todo o dia, e o rei permaneceu em pé, apoiado em seu carro, de frente para os sírios. Ao entardecer, quando o sol se punha, ele morreu.
