¹ Jehoshaphat was wealthy and honorable. He became Ahabs in-law.

¹ Ora, Josafá tinha honra e riquezas em abundância, e uniu-se em parentesco com Acabe.

² After that he went to visit Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered many sheep and cattle for a banquet in honor of Jehoshaphat and the people who were with him. Ahab persuaded Jehoshaphat to attack Ramoth in Gilead with him.

² E depois de alguns anos ele desceu até Acabe em Samaria. E Acabe matou ovelhas e bois em abundância para ele, e para o povo que ele tinha consigo, e o persuadiu a subir com ele até Ramote-Gileade.

³ He asked: »Will you go with me to attack Ramoth?« Jehoshaphat replied: »I am ready when you are. My army is ready. We will join you.«

³ E Acabe, rei de Israel, disse a Josafá, rei de Judá: Irás tu comigo para Ramote-Gileade? E ele lhe respondeu: Eu sou como tu és, e o meu povo como o teu povo; e nós estaremos contigo na guerra.

⁴ He added: »But first let us consult Jehovah.«

⁴ E Josafá disse ao rei de Israel: Rogo-te que consultes a palavra do SENHOR hoje.

⁵ Ahab called in about four hundred prophets. He asked them: »Should I go and attack Ramoth, or not?« »Attack it,« they answered. »God will give you victory.«

⁵ Portanto, o rei de Israel reuniu os profetas, quatrocentos homens, e disse-lhes: Devemos nós ir a Ramote-Gileade para batalha? Ou, devo me refrear? E eles disseram: Sobe; porque Deus a entregará na mão do rei.

⁶ Jehoshaphat asked: »Is there another prophet through whom we can consult Jehovah?«

⁶ Todavia, Josafá disse: Não há aqui um profeta do SENHOR além desses, para que possamos consultá-lo?

⁷ Ahab answered: »There is one more. He is Micaiah son of Imlah. But I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me. It is always something bad.« Jehoshaphat replied: »You should not say that.«

⁷ E o rei de Israel disse a Josafá: Há ainda um homem, por quem podemos consultar ao SENHOR; mas eu o odeio; porque ele nunca profetiza o bem para mim, mas sempre o mal; este é Micaías, o filho de Inlá. E Josafá disse: Não fale o rei assim.

⁸ Consequently King Ahab called in a court official and told him to go and get Micaiah at once.

⁸ E o rei de Israel chamou um dos seus oficiais, e disse: Buscai rapidamente Micaías, o filho de Inlá.

⁹ The two kings, dressed in their royal robes, sat on their thrones at the threshing place just outside the gate of Samaria. All the prophets were prophesying in front of them.

⁹ E o rei de Israel e Josafá, o rei de Judá, assentaram-se, cada qual em seu trono, usando as suas vestes, e eles se assentaram em um local vazio à entrada do portão de Samaria; e todos os profetas profetizaram diante deles.

¹⁰ One of them, Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, made iron horns and said to Ahab: This is what Jehovah says: »With these you will fight the Syrians and totally defeat them.«

¹⁰ E Zedequias, o filho de Quenaaná, fez para si chifres de ferro; e disse: Assim diz o SENHOR: Com estes empurrarás a Síria, até que sejam consumidos.

¹¹ All the other prophets said the same thing. »March against Ramoth and you will win,« they said. Jehovah will give you victory.

¹¹ E todos os profetas profetizaram assim, dizendo: Sobe até Ramote-Gileade, e prospera; porque o SENHOR a entregará na mão do rei.

¹² The official who had gone to get Micaiah said to him: All the other prophets have prophesied success for the king. You had better do the same.

¹² E o mensageiro que foi chamar Micaías falou a ele, dizendo: Eis que as palavras dos profetas declaram o bem para o rei, seja, pois, também a tua palavra como a de um deles, e fala o que é bom.

¹³ But Micaiah answered: »By the living God Jehovah I will say what my God tells me to say.«

¹³ E Micaías disse: Como vive o SENHOR, o que o meu Deus me disser, isto falarei.

¹⁴ When he appeared before King Ahab, the king asked him: »Micaiah, should King Jehoshaphat and I go and attack Ramoth, or not?« »Attack!« Micaiah answered. »You will win! Jehovah will give you victory.«

¹⁴ Vindo, pois, ele ao rei, este lhe disse: Micaías, devemos ir a Ramote-Gileade para batalha, ou devemos nos refrear? E ele disse: Subi, e prosperai, e eles serão entregues nas vossas mãos.

¹⁵ Ahab replied: »When you speak to me in the name of Jehovah, tell the truth! How many times do I have to tell you that?«

¹⁵ E o rei lhe disse: Quantas vezes devo conjurar-te que não digas nada além da verdade para mim em o nome do SENHOR?

¹⁶ Micaiah answered: »I can see the army of Israel scattered over the hills like sheep without a shepherd.« Jehovah said: »These men have no leader. Let them go home in peace.«

¹⁶ E ele disse: Vi todo o Israel espalhado sobre os montes, como ovelhas que não têm um pastor; e o SENHOR disse: Estas não têm senhor; que retornem portanto cada homem à sua casa em paz.

¹⁷ Ahab said to Jehoshaphat: »I told you that he never prophesies anything good for me. It is always something bad!«

¹⁷ E o rei de Israel disse a Josafá: Não te contei eu que ele não profetizaria o bem para mim, senão o mal?

¹⁸ Micaiah continued: »Now listen to what Jehovah says! I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne in heaven. All his angels were standing beside him.«

¹⁸ Novamente, ele disse: Portanto, ouvi a palavra do SENHOR: Eu vi o SENHOR assentado no seu trono, e todo o exército do céu de pé junto a ele à sua direita e à sua esquerda.

¹⁹ Jehovah asked: »Who will deceive Ahab so that he will go and get killed at Ramoth? Some of the angels said one thing, and others said something else,

¹⁹ E o SENHOR disse: Quem persuadirá Acabe, rei de Israel, para que ele possa subir e tombar em Ramote-Gileade? E um falava dizendo segundo esta maneira, e outro dizendo segundo aquela maneira.

²⁰ until a spirit stepped forward, approached Jehovah,« and said: »I will deceive him.« »How?« Jehovah asked.

²⁰ Então saiu ali um espírito, e se pôs de pé diante do SENHOR, e disse: Eu o persuadirei. E o SENHOR disse a ele: Com o quê?

²¹ The spirit replied: »I will go and make all of Ahabs prophets tell lies.« Jehovah said: »Go and deceive him. You will succeed.«

²¹ E ele disse: Eu sairei e serei um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas. E o SENHOR disse: Tu o persuadirá, e tu também prevalecerás: Sai, e faz assim.

²² Micaiah concluded: »This is what has happened. Jehovah made these prophets of yours lie to you. But he has decreed that you will meet with disaster!«

²² Agora, portanto, eis que o SENHOR colocou um espírito mentiroso na boca destes teus profetas, e o SENHOR falou o mal contra ti.

²³ Then the prophet Zedekiah went up to Micaiah and slapped his face. He asked: »Since when did Jehovahs spirit leave me and speak to you?«

²³ Então Zedequias, o filho de Quenaaná, aproximou-se, e feriu Micaías no maxilar, e disse: Qual caminho seguiu o Espírito do SENHOR de mim para falar a ti?

²⁴ »You will find out when you go into some back room to hide,« Micaiah replied.

²⁴ E Micaías disse: Eis que naquele dia verás, quando adentrares uma câmara interna para te esconderes.

²⁵ Then King Ahab ordered one of his officers: »Arrest Micaiah and take him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Prince Joash.«

²⁵ E o rei de Israel disse: Tomai Micaías, e carregai-o de volta a Amom, o governador da cidade, e a Joás, o filho do rei;

²⁶ Say: »This is what the king says: Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return home safely.«

²⁶ e dizei: Assim diz o rei: Colocai este indivíduo na prisão, e alimentai-o com pão de aflição e com água de aflição, até que eu retorne em paz.

²⁷ Micaiah said: »If you really do come back safely, then Jehovah was not speaking through me. Pay attention to this, everyone!«

²⁷ E Micaías disse: Se tu certamente retornares em paz, então não falou o SENHOR por mim. E ele disse: Escutai, vós todos do povo.

²⁸ Thus the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to Ramoth in Gilead.

²⁸ Assim, o rei de Israel e Josafá, o rei de Judá, subiram até Ramote-Gileade.

²⁹ The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat: »I will disguise myself and go into battle. You, however, should wear your royal robes.« So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.

²⁹ E o rei de Israel disse a Josafá: Eu me disfarçarei, e irei à batalha; mas põe tu as tuas vestes. Assim, o rei de Israel se disfarçou; e eles foram à batalha.

³⁰ The king of Aram gave orders to the chariot commanders. He said: »Do not fight anyone except the king of Israel.«

³⁰ Porém, o rei da Síria havia ordenado aos capitães das carruagens que estavam com ele, dizendo: Não lutes com pequeno, nem com grande, mas tão somente com o rei de Israel.

³¹ When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said: »He must be the king of Israel.« So they surrounded him in order to fight him. When Jehoshaphat cried out Jehovah helped him. God drew them away from him.

³¹ E sucedeu, quando os capitães das carruagens viram Josafá, eles disseram: É o rei de Israel. Portanto, eles o cercaram para lutar; mas Josafá clamou, e o SENHOR o socorreu; e Deus moveu-os a se apartarem dele.

³² Soon the chariot commanders realized that Jehoshaphat was not the king of Israel. Then they turned away from him.

³² Porque sucedeu que, quando os capitães das carruagens perceberam que não era o rei de Israel, deixaram de persegui-lo.

³³ One man aimed his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between his scale armor and his breastplate. Ahab told the chariot driver: »Turn around, and get me away from these troops for I am badly wounded.«

³³ E um certo homem atirou um arco a esmo, e feriu o rei de Israel entre as juntas da couraça; pelo que ele disse ao homem da sua carruagem: Vira a tua mão, para que possas me carregar para fora do exército; porque estou ferido.

³⁴ The battle raged on and King Ahab remained propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians. At sunset he died.

³⁴ E a batalha se intensificou naquele dia; todavia o rei de Israel manteve-se de pé na sua carruagem contra os sírios até o anoitecer; e por volta da hora do sol se pôr ele morreu.
