1 Jehoshaphat succeeded his father Asa as king and strengthened his position against Israel.
1 E Josafá, o seu filho, reinou em seu lugar, e fortaleceu-se contra Israel.
2 He stationed troops in the fortified cities of Judah. He also put troops in the Judean countryside, and in the cities that Asa had captured in the territory of Ephraim.
2 E ele posicionou forças em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá, e pôs guarnições na terra de Judá, e nas cidades de Efraim, que Asa, o seu pai, havia tomado.
3 Jehovah blessed Jehoshaphat because he followed the example of his father’s early life and did not worship Baal.
3 E o SENHOR esteve com Josafá, porque ele andou nos primeiros caminhos do seu pai Davi, e não buscou aos baalins;
4 He served his father’s God. He obeyed God’s commandments, and did not act the way the kings of Israel did.
4 mas buscou o SENHOR Deus do seu pai, e andou nos seus mandamentos, e não segundo as obras de Israel.
5 Jehovah gave Jehoshaphat firm control over the kingdom of Judah. The people brought him gifts, so that he became wealthy and highly honored.
5 Por isso, o SENHOR estabeleceu o reino de Israel na sua mão; e todo o Judá trazia a Josafá presentes; e ele tinha honra e riquezas em abundância.
6 His heart was devoted to the ways of Jehovah. He destroyed all the pagan places of worship and the symbols of the goddess Asherah in Judah.
6 E o seu coração estava exaltado nos caminhos do SENHOR; ainda mais ele removeu os lugares altos e os bosques de Judá.
7 In the third year of his reign he sent out the following officials to teach in the cities of Judah: Benhail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah.
7 Além disso, no terceiro ano do seu reinado ele enviou os seus príncipes, a saber: a Ben-Hail, e a Obadias, e a Zacarias, e a Natanael, e a Micaías; para ensinarem nas cidades de Judá.
8 With them were the Levites Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, Tob Adonijah, and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
8 E com eles, enviou os levitas, a saber: Semaías, e Netanias, e Zebadias, e Asael, e Semiramote, e Jônatas, e Adonias, e Tobias, e Tobe-Adonias, e com estes levitas os sacerdotes, Elisama e Jeroão.
9 They taught in Judah. They had the Book of Torah the LawJehovah’s Teachings with them when they taught the people in all the cities of Judah.
9 E eles ensinaram em Judá, e tinham o livro da lei do SENHOR consigo, e iam por todas as cidades de Judá, e ensinavam ao povo.
10 All the kingdoms around Judah were afraid of Jehovah. As a result, they did not wage war against Jehoshaphat.
10 E o temor do SENHOR veio sobre todos os reinos das terras que estavam ao redor de Judá, de modo que eles não fizeram guerra contra Josafá.
11 Some of the Philistines brought gifts and silver as taxes. The Arabs also brought him flocks: seven thousand and seven hundred rams and seven thousand and seven hundred male goats.
11 Alguns dos filisteus também traziam presentes a Josafá, e prata como tributo; e os árabes traziam-lhe rebanhos, sete mil e setecentos carneiros, e sete mil e setecentos bodes.
12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful. He built fortresses and cities where supplies were stored in Judah.
12 E Josafá tornou-se muitíssimo grande; e edificou fortalezas e cidades de provisões em Judá.
13 He stored large supplies of food in the cities of Judah and an army of professional soldiers served him in Jerusalem.
13 E ele tinha muitos negócios nas cidades de Judá; e os homens de guerra, homens fortes e valentes, estavam em Jerusalém.
14 The following is a breakdown of these soldiers. They are listed by families. Judah’s regimental commanders were Commander Adnah with three hundred thousand fighting men,
14 E estes são os números deles de acordo com a casa dos seus pais: de Judá, os capitães de milhares; Adna, o chefe, e com ele trezentos mil homens fortes e valentes.
15 next to him was Commander Jehohanan with two hundred and eighty thousand men.

16 There was Amasiah, Zichri’s son, who volunteered to serve Jehovah with two hundred thousand fighting men.
16 E junto a ele estava Amasias, o filho de Zicri, que voluntariamente se ofereceu ao SENHOR; e com ele duzentos mil homens fortes e valentes.
17 From Benjamin there was the fighting man Eliada with two hundred thousand armed men with bows and shields.
17 E de Benjamim; Eliada, um homem forte e valente, e com ele duzentos mil homens armados com arco e escudo.
18 Next to him was Jehozabad with an army of one hundred and eighty thousand armed men.
18 E ao seu lado estava Jozabade, e com ele cento e oitenta mil prontamente preparados para a guerra.
19 These were the men who served the king in addition to those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
19 Estes estavam no serviço do rei; afora os que o rei tinha posto nas cidades fortificadas por todo o Judá.
