1 David finished talking to Saul. Jonathan became Davids closest friend. He loved David as much as he loved himself.
1 Depois que Davi terminou de falar com Saul, formou-se de imediato um forte laço de amizade entre ele e Jônatas, filho do rei, por causa do amor que Jônatas tinha por Davi.
2 Saul kept him with him that day and would not let him go home to his fathers house any more.
2 A partir daquele dia, Saul manteve Davi consigo e não o deixou voltar para a casa de seu pai.
3 Jonathan made a covenant with David. He loved him as himself.
3 Jônatas assumiu um compromisso solene com Davi, pois o amava como a si mesmo.
4 Jonathan removed the robe he was wearing. He gave it to David along with his armor, including his sword, his bow and his belt.
4 Para selar essa aliança, Jônatas tirou seu manto e o entregou a Davi, junto com sua armadura, sua espada, seu arco e seu cinturão.
5 So David did everything Saul sent him to do successfully. Saul made him a commander in his army. This pleased the people and Sauls servants.
5 Davi cumpria com êxito todas as missões de que Saul o encarregava. Então Saul lhe deu uma posição de comando no exército, o que agradou tanto ao povo como aos oficiais de Saul.
6 David returned from a campaign against the Philistines. That same day women from all of Israels cities came to meet King Saul. They sang and danced. Tambourines, joyful music, and triangles accompanied them.
6 Quando o exército israelita regressou vitorioso, depois que Davi matou o gigante filisteu, mulheres de todas as cidades saíram ao encontro do rei Saul. Cantavam e dançavam de alegria, com tamborins e címbalos.
7 The women who celebrated sang: »Saul has defeated thousands but David tens of thousands!«

8 Saul became very angry because he considered this saying to be insulting. He said: »To David they credit tens of thousands but to me they credit only a few thousand. The only thing left for David is my kingdom.«
8 Saul ficou indignado com essas palavras. “O que é isso?”, disse ele. “Atribuem a Davi dezenas de milhares, e a mim, apenas milhares? Só falta o declararem rei!”
9 He was jealous and suspicious of David from that day on.
9 Daquele momento em diante, Saul começou a olhar para Davi com suspeita.
10 The next day Jehovah let a distressing spirit take control of Saul. He began acting like a crazy man inside his house. David came to play the harp for Saul as usual. This time Saul had a spear in his hand.
10 No dia seguinte, um espírito maligno enviado por Deus se apoderou de Saul, e ele começou a delirar em sua casa, como se fosse louco. Davi tocava a harpa, como fazia todos os dias. Mas Saul tinha uma lança na mão
11 Saul balanced the spear in his hand and said: »I will give David a blow! I will pin him to the wall.« David got away from him twice.
11 e, de repente, atirou-a contra Davi, com a intenção de encravá-lo na parede. Davi, porém, escapou duas vezes.
12 Saul was afraid of David, because Jehovah was with David but left Saul.
12 Saul tinha medo de Davi, pois o S enhor o havia abandonado e agora estava com Davi.
13 So Saul sent him away. He put him in command of a thousand men. David led his men in battle.
13 Por fim, Saul o afastou de sua presença e o nomeou comandante de mil soldados, e Davi conduzia as tropas vitoriosamente nas batalhas.
14 Jehovah helped David. He and his soldiers always won their battles.
14 Davi continuou a ter êxito em tudo que fazia, pois o S enhor estava com ele.
15 Saul saw how wisely David behaved. This made him fear him.
15 Quando Saul viu isso, teve ainda mais medo.
16 Everyone in Israel and Judah loved David. He led them in and out of battle.
16 Mas todo o Israel e todo o Judá amavam Davi, porque ele conduzia as tropas vitoriosamente nas batalhas.
17 Finally, Saul said to David: »Here is my oldest daughter Merab. I will give her to you as your wife if you prove yourself to be a warrior for me and fight Jehovahs battles.« Saul thought: »I must not lay a hand on him. Let the Philistines do that.«
17 Certo dia, Saul disse a Davi: “Estou pronto a lhe dar minha filha mais velha, Merabe, por esposa. Mas antes, sirva-me como um guerreiro valente, lutando nas batalhas do S enhor ”. Pois Saul pensou: “Em vez de matá-lo eu mesmo, vou enviá-lo aos filisteus, e eles o matarão”.
18 David answered: »Who am I? What is my family that I should be the kings son-in-law?«
18 Davi, porém, respondeu a Saul: “Quem sou eu, e quem é minha família em Israel para que eu me torne genro do rei?”.
19 The time came for Merab to be given to David. Instead, she was given to a man named Adriel from Meholah.
19 Assim, quando chegou o tempo de Saul dar sua filha Merabe em casamento a Davi, ele a deu a Adriel, um homem de Meolá.
20 Sauls daughter Michal fell in love with David. When Saul heard of this he was pleased.
20 Contudo, a outra filha de Saul, Mical, amava Davi, e Saul ficou contente quando soube disso.
21 He said to himself: »I will give Michal to David. I will use her to trap him. The Philistines will kill him.« So for the second time Saul said to David: »You will be my son-in-law.«
21 “É mais uma oportunidade de os filisteus matarem Davi!”, pensou ele. Para Davi, porém, ele disse: “Você tem mais uma oportunidade de se tornar meu genro”.
22 Saul ordered his officials to speak to David in private. They went to David and said: »Look, the king likes you, and all of his officials are loyal to you. Why not ask the king if you may marry his daughter Michal?«
22 Então Saul instruiu seus servos a dizerem a Davi, em particular: “O rei gosta muito de você, e nós também. Por que não aceita a oferta do rei e se torna genro dele?”.
23 Sauls servants said these things to David. And David said: »I am not rich or famous enough to marry Princess Michal.«

24 Sauls servants told him: »David asked, do you think it is easy to become the kings son-in-law? I am a poor and unimportant person.«
24 Então os homens de Saul contaram-lhe o que Davi disse,
25 When the officers told Saul what David had said,
25 e Saul respondeu: “Digam a Davi que o único dote que quero são cem prepúcios de filisteus! Desejo apenas me vingar de meus inimigos”. Mas Saul planejava que Davi fosse morto na luta.
26 Sauls officials reported to David what Saul had said. David was delighted with the thought of becoming the kings son-in-law. Before the day set for the wedding,
26 Quando os servos de Saul trouxeram essa notícia a Davi, ele aceitou a oferta de bom grado. Antes do prazo estipulado,
27 David and his men killed two hundred Philistines. He took their foreskins to the king and counted them all out to him. This was so he might become his son-in-law. So Saul had to give his daughter Michal in marriage to David.
27 ele e seus homens saíram e mataram duzentos filisteus. Davi cumpriu a exigência para tornar-se genro do rei, trazendo-lhe os prepúcios. Então Saul deu sua filha Mical por esposa a Davi.
28 Saul knew she loved David. He also realized that Jehovah was helping David.
28 Quando Saul percebeu que o S enhor estava com Davi, e viu como sua filha Mical o amava,
29 Knowing those things made Saul even more afraid of David. He was Davids enemy for the rest of his life.
29 temeu Davi ainda mais e continuou a ser inimigo dele pelo resto de sua vida.
30 The Philistine rulers kept coming to fight Israel. David always won when he fought them. He won more battles against the Philistines than any of Sauls other officers. This made him famous.
30 Sempre que os comandantes dos filisteus atacavam, Davi era mais bem-sucedido contra eles que todos os outros oficiais de Saul. Assim, o nome de Davi se tornou muito famoso.
