1 After these things Jesus continued to travel about in Galilee, for he did not wish to go about in Judea, because the Jews kept trying to kill him.
1 Passadas estas coisas, Jesus andava pela Galileia, porque não desejava percorrer a Judeia, visto que os judeus procuravam matá-lo.
2 When the time of the Jewish feast of Tabernacles drew near,
2 Ora, a festa dos judeus, chamada de Festa dos Tabernáculos, estava próxima.
3 his brothers said to him. "Leave here and go into Judea, so that your disciples also may behold the works which you are doing.
3 Dirigiram-se, pois, a ele os seus irmãos e lhe disseram: Deixa este lugar e vai para a Judeia, para que também os teus discípulos vejam as obras que fazes.
4 "For no one ever does anything in secret if he himself seeks to be known publicly. If you are performing these signs, show yourself openly to the world."
4 Porque ninguém há que procure ser conhecido em público e, contudo, realize os seus feitos em oculto. Se fazes estas coisas, manifesta-te ao mundo.
5 For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
5 Pois nem mesmo os seus irmãos criam nele.
6 "My time is not yet come," said Jesus, "but your time is always at hand.
6 Disse-lhes, pois, Jesus: O meu tempo ainda não chegou, mas o vosso sempre está presente.
7 "The world cannot hate you, but me it does hate, because I am bearing testimony against it, that its ways are wicked.
7 Não pode o mundo odiar-vos, mas a mim me odeia, porque eu dou testemunho a seu respeito de que as suas obras são más.
8 Do you go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fully come."
8 Subi vós outros à festa; eu, por enquanto, não subo, porque o meu tempo ainda não está cumprido.
9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee; but after his brothers had gone up to feast,
9 Disse-lhes Jesus estas coisas e continuou na Galileia.
10 then he went too - not openly, but as it were a secret.
10 Mas, depois que seus irmãos subiram para a festa, então, subiu ele também, não publicamente, mas em oculto.
11 The Jews meanwhile kept looking for him at feast, and saying, "Where is he?" "I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own Name these whom thou hast given me, that they may be one as we are one.
11 Ora, os judeus o procuravam na festa e perguntavam: Onde estará ele?
12 and there was much disputing about him among the crowd. Some would say, "He is a good man." Others. "No! he is misleading the people." "While I was with them I kept them by the power of thy name which thou hast given me. I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
12 E havia grande murmuração a seu respeito entre as multidões. Uns diziam: Ele é bom. E outros: Não, antes, engana o povo.
13 No one, however, was speaking openly about him, for fear of the Jews. "But now I am coming to thee, and I am speaking these things while I am in the world, so that they may have my joy in all its fulness in themselves.
13 Entretanto, ninguém falava dele abertamente, por ter medo dos judeus.
14 But when it was already the middle of the feast, Jesus went up to the Temple and began to teach. "I have given them thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
14 Corria já em meio a festa, e Jesus subiu ao templo e ensinava.
15 The Jews were amazed. They said, "How does this fellow know the sacred writings when he has never learned them?" "I am not asking that thou wilt take them out of the world, but that thou wilt protect them from the Evil One.
15 Então, os judeus se maravilhavam e diziam: Como sabe este letras, sem ter estudado?
16 In reply Jesus said to them; "My teaching is not mine, but is his who sent me. "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
16 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: O meu ensino não é meu, e sim daquele que me enviou.
17 "If any one wills to do Gods will he shall know concerning my teaching, whether it is from God, or I speak my own authority. "Dedicate them in thy truth; thy word is truth.
17 Se alguém quiser fazer a vontade dele, conhecerá a respeito da doutrina, se ela é de Deus ou se eu falo por mim mesmo.
18 "The man who speaks on his own authority is always seeking his own glory. But one who is eager for the glory of Him who sent him, he is true, and therefore is nothing false about him.
18 Quem fala por si mesmo está procurando a sua própria glória; mas o que procura a glória de quem o enviou, esse é verdadeiro, e nele não há injustiça.
19 "Did not Moses give you the Law? Yet none of you is keeping the Law. Why are you seeking to kill me?"
19 Não vos deu Moisés a lei? Contudo, ninguém dentre vós a observa. Por que procurais matar-me?
20 The crowd answered. "You have a demon! Who is trying kill you?"
20 Respondeu a multidão: Tens demônio. Quem é que procura matar-te?
21 Jesus answered them. "There was one thing I did, and you are all amazed.
21 Replicou-lhes Jesus: Um só feito realizei, e todos vos admirais.
22 "Consider, therefore, Moses has given you circumcision - not that Moses originated it, but the fathers - and you are accustomed to circumcise a child even on the Sabbath.
22 Pelo motivo de que Moisés vos deu a circuncisão (se bem que ela não vem dele, mas dos patriarcas ), no sábado circuncidais um homem.
23 "If a child receives circumcision on the Sabbath, in order that the Law of Moses may not be broken, how can you be angry with me because I made a man sound and well on the Sabbath?
23 E, se o homem pode ser circuncidado em dia de sábado, para que a lei de Moisés não seja violada, por que vos indignais contra mim, pelo fato de eu ter curado, num sábado, ao todo, um homem?
24 "Do not judge according to appearance. Judge justly."
24 Não julgueis segundo a aparência, e sim pela reta justiça.
25 Then some of the men of Jerusalem were saying. "Is not this the man they are seeking to kill?
25 Diziam alguns de Jerusalém: Não é este aquele a quem procuram matar?
26 "And look! he is speaking boldly and they are saying nothing to him. Can it possibly be that the rulers have really discovered that he is the Christ?
26 Eis que ele fala abertamente, e nada lhe dizem. Porventura, reconhecem verdadeiramente as autoridades que este é, de fato, o Cristo?
27 "But we know this man and where he is from; but when the Christ comes no one will know where he comes from."
27 Nós, todavia, sabemos donde este é; quando, porém, vier o Cristo, ninguém saberá donde ele é.
28 So Jesus cried aloud as he was teaching in the Temple, and said. "You both know me and you know where I am from; and I am not come on my own authority, but he who sent me is trustworthy, and him you do not know.
28 Jesus, pois, enquanto ensinava no templo, clamou, dizendo: Vós não somente me conheceis, mas também sabeis donde eu sou; e não vim porque eu, de mim mesmo, o quisesse, mas aquele que me enviou é verdadeiro, aquele a quem vós não conheceis.
29 "But I now him, because I am from him and he sent me."
29 Eu o conheço, porque venho da parte dele e fui por ele enviado.
30 Then they kept seeking to arrest him, but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
30 Então, procuravam prendê-lo; mas ninguém lhe pôs a mão, porque ainda não era chegada a sua hora.
31 But many of the crowd believed on him and began to say, "The Christ, when he comes, will he do more signs than this man has done?"
31 E, contudo, muitos de entre a multidão creram nele e diziam: Quando vier o Cristo, fará, porventura, maiores sinais do que este homem tem feito?
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the high priest and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.
32 Os fariseus, ouvindo a multidão murmurar estas coisas a respeito dele, juntamente com os principais sacerdotes enviaram guardas para o prenderem.
33 Then Jesus said to them. "Still for a little longer I am with you, and then I am going my way to him who sent me.
33 Disse-lhes Jesus: Ainda por um pouco de tempo estou convosco e depois irei para junto daquele que me enviou.
34 "You will search for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come."
34 Haveis de procurar-me e não me achareis; também aonde eu estou, vós não podeis ir.
35 Then the Jews said to one another. "Where does this fellow intend to go, so that we shall not find him? He is not intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and to teach the Greeks, is he?
35 Disseram, pois, os judeus uns aos outros: Para onde irá este que não o possamos achar? Irá, porventura, para a Dispersão entre os gregos, com o fim de os ensinar?
36 "What does he mean saying, You shall seek me and you shall not find me, and Where I am you cannot come?"
36 Que significa, de fato, o que ele diz: Haveis de procurar-me e não me achareis; também aonde eu estou, vós não podeis ir?
37 Now the last day, that the great day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried in a loud voice.
37 No último dia, o grande dia da festa, levantou-se Jesus e exclamou: Se alguém tem sede, venha a mim e beba.
38 "If any man thirst let him come to me and drink. From the heart of him who believes in me will flow, as the Scripture said, rivers of living water."
38 Quem crer em mim, como diz a Escritura, do seu interior fluirão rios de água viva.
39 Now he said this concerning the Spirit whom those who believed in him should receive. For the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
39 Isto ele disse com respeito ao Espírito que haviam de receber os que nele cressem; pois o Espírito até aquele momento não fora dado, porque Jesus não havia sido ainda glorificado.
40 Some of the crowd who had been listening to these discourses began to say, "Without a doubt this man is a Prophet."
40 Então, os que dentre o povo tinham ouvido estas palavras diziam: Este é verdadeiramente o profeta;
41 Other said, "He is the Christ." But others were saying. "Surely the Christ is not to come out of Galilee, is he?
41 outros diziam: Ele é o Cristo; outros, porém, perguntavam: Porventura, o Cristo virá da Galileia?
42 "Does not the Scripture say that the Christ is coming of the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, Davids town?"
42 Não diz a Escritura que o Cristo vem da descendência de Davi e da aldeia de Belém, donde era Davi?
43 So a division arose in the crowd concerning him. Some of them wished to apprehend him, but no one laid hands on him.
43 Assim, houve uma dissensão entre o povo por causa dele;
44 Then the officers returned to the chief priest and Pharisees,
44 alguns dentre eles queriam prendê-lo, mas ninguém lhe pôs as mãos.
45 and they asked them, "Why have you not brought him?"
45 Voltaram, pois, os guardas à presença dos principais sacerdotes e fariseus, e estes lhes perguntaram: Por que não o trouxestes?
46 The officers answered, "Never yet did a man speak like this man."
46 Responderam eles: Jamais alguém falou como este homem.
47 "Surely you have not been led astray, have you? answered the Pharisees.
47 Replicaram-lhes, pois, os fariseus: Será que também vós fostes enganados?
48 "Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?
48 Porventura, creu nele alguém dentre as autoridades ou algum dos fariseus?
49 "As for this mob who do not understand the Law, they are accursed!"
49 Quanto a esta plebe que nada sabe da lei, é maldita.
50 Nicodemus, one of their number, he who had formerly visited Jesus, said to them,
50 Nicodemos, um deles, que antes fora ter com Jesus, perguntou-lhes:
51 "Our law does not condemn the accused, does it, before hearing his defense, and finding out what he is doing?"
51 Acaso, a nossa lei julga um homem, sem primeiro ouvi-lo e saber o que ele fez?
52 In answer they said to him. "You are not from Galilee, are you? Search for yourself, and see that from Galilee arises no prophet."
52 Responderam eles: Dar-se-á o caso de que também tu és da Galileia? Examina e verás que da Galileia não se levanta profeta.
53 Then they departed each to his own house.
53 [E cada um foi para sua casa.
