1 And Job answered and said,
1 Então Jó respondeu, dizendo:
2 Truly I know [it is so], but how can man be just with God?
2 Na verdade sei que assim é; porque, como se justificaria o homem para com Deus?
3 If he will argue with Him, he cannot answer Him one of a thousand.
3 Se quiser contender com ele, nem a uma de mil coisas lhe poderá responder.
4 [He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened [himself] against Him and been blessed;
4 Ele é sábio de coração, e forte em poder; quem se endureceu contra ele, e teve paz?
5 [He] who removes the mountains, and they know it not, when He overturns them in His anger;
5 Ele é o que remove os montes, sem que o saibam, e o que os transtorna no seu furor.
6 [He] who shakes the earth out of its place, and the pillars of it tremble;
6 O que sacode a terra do seu lugar, e as suas colunas estremecem.
7 the one speaking to the sun, and it does not rise; and seals up the stars;
7 O que fala ao sol, e ele não nasce, e sela as estrelas.
8 who alone stretches out the heavens, and walks on the waves of the sea;
8 O que sozinho estende os céus, e anda sobre os altos do mar.
9 who made the Bear, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south;
9 O que fez a Ursa, o Órion, e o Sete-estrelo, e as recâmaras do sul.
10 who is doing great things past finding out; yea, marvelous things without number?
10 O que faz coisas grandes e inescrutáveis; e maravilhas sem número.
11 Behold! He goes by me, and I do not see [Him]; He passes on also, but I do not perceive Him.
11 Eis que ele passa por diante de mim, e não o vejo; e torna a passar perante mim, e não o sinto.
12 Behold, He takes away; who can turn Him back? Who will say to Him, What are You doing?
12 Eis que arrebata a presa; quem lha fará restituir? Quem lhe dirá: Que é o que fazes?
13 God will not withdraw His anger; the helpers of pride stoop under Him.
13 Deus não revogará a sua ira; debaixo dele se encurvam os auxiliadores soberbos.
14 How much less shall I answer Him, [and] choose my arguments with Him?
14 Quanto menos lhe responderia eu, ou escolheria diante dele as minhas palavras!
15 Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] I would not answer; I seek mercy for my judgment.
15 Porque, ainda que eu fosse justo, não lhe responderia; antes ao meu Juiz pediria misericórdia.
16 If I had called and He had answered me, yet would I not believe that He had listened to my voice;
16 Ainda que chamasse, e ele me respondesse, nem por isso creria que desse ouvidos à minha voz.
17 [He] who breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause;
17 Porque me quebranta com uma tempestade, e multiplica as minhas chagas sem causa.
18 [who] will not allow me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
18 Não me permite respirar, antes me farta de amarguras.
19 If [I speak] of strength, lo, [He is] mighty! And if of judgment, who shall set me a time?
19 Quanto às forças, eis que ele é o forte; e, quanto ao juízo, quem me citará com ele?
20 If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me; [though] I [am] perfect, He shall declare me perverse.
20 Se eu me justificar, a minha boca me condenará; se for perfeito, então ela me declarará perverso.
21 [Though] I [were] perfect, yet I would not know my soul. I would despise my life.
21 Se for perfeito, não estimo a minha alma; desprezo a minha vida.
22 It [is] One, therefore I said, He is consuming the perfect and the wicked.
22 A coisa é esta; por isso eu digo que ele consome ao perfeito e ao ímpio.
23 If the whip kills suddenly, He will mock at the calamity of the innocent.
23 Quando o açoite mata de repente, então ele zomba da prova dos inocentes.
24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covers the faces of its judges; if it [is] not [He], then who [is] it?
24 A terra é entregue nas mãos do ímpio; ele cobre o rosto dos juízes; se não é ele, quem é, logo?
25 Now my days are swifter than a runner; they flee away, they see no good.
25 E os meus dias são mais velozes do que um correio; fugiram, e não viram o bem.
26 They have passed away like the swift ships; like the eagle who swoops on the prey.
26 Passam como navios veleiros; como águia que se lança à comida.
27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will depart from my heaviness and be of good cheer,
27 Se eu disser: Eu me esquecerei da minha queixa, e mudarei o meu aspecto e tomarei alento,
28 I am afraid of all my sorrows; I know that You will not hold me innocent.
28 Receio todas as minhas dores, porque bem sei que não me terás por inocente.
29 I have been condemned; why then should I labor in vain?
29 E, sendo eu ímpio, por que trabalharei em vão?
30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands ever so clean,
30 Ainda que me lave com água de neve, e purifique as minhas mãos com sabão,
31 yet You will plunge me into the ditch and my own clothes shall despise me.
31 Ainda me submergirás no fosso, e as minhas próprias vestes me abominarão.
32 For [He is] not a man, as I [am, that] I should answer Him, [that] we should come together in judgment;
32 Porque ele não é homem, como eu, a quem eu responda, vindo juntamente a juízo.
33 there is no mediator between us, [who] might lay his hand on us both.
33 Não há entre nós árbitro que ponha a mão sobre nós ambos.
34 Let Him take His rod away from me, and let not His fear make me afraid;
34 Tire ele a sua vara de cima de mim, e não me amedronte o seu terror.
35 [then] would I speak and not fear Him; for [it is] not so with me.
35 Então falarei, e não o temerei; porque não sou assim em mim mesmo.
