1 And when Rehobo’am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom again to Rehobo’am.
1 Quando Roboão chegou a Jerusalém, mobilizou os homens das tribos de Judá e Benjamim, 180 mil dos melhores soldados, para guerrearem contra Israel e recuperarem o reino.
2 But the word of the Lord came unto Shema’yahu the man of God, saying,
2 O S enhor , porém, disse a Semaías, homem de Deus:
3 Say unto Rehobo’am the son of Solomon, the king of Judah and Benjamin, saying,
3 “Diga a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a todos os israelitas em Judá e Benjamim:
4 Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jerobo’am.
4 ‘Assim diz o S enhor : Não lutem contra seus compatriotas. Voltem para casa, pois eu mesmo fiz isto acontecer!’”. Eles obedeceram à palavra do S enhor e não lutaram contra Jeroboão.
5 And Rehobo’am dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities as fortresses in Judah.
5 Roboão permaneceu em Jerusalém e fortificou várias cidades para defender Judá.
6 He built, namely, Beth–lechem, and ‘Etam, and Thekoa’.
6 Fortificou Belém, Etã, Tecoa,
7 And Beth–zur, and Socho, and ‘Adullam,
7 Bete-Zur, Socó, Adulão,
8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
8 Gate, Maressa, Zife,
9 And Adorayim and Lachish, and ‘Azekah,
9 Adoraim, Laquis, Azeca,
10 And Zor’ah, and Ayalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
10 Zorá, Aijalom e Hebrom. Essas cidades foram fortificadas em Judá e em Benjamim.
11 And he strengthened the strong–holds, and put commanders in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine;
11 Roboão fortaleceu suas defesas, colocou nelas comandantes e armazenou provisões de alimento, azeite e vinho.
12 And in each and every city he placed shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong: and thus remained with him Judah and Benjamin.
12 Também colocou nessas cidades escudos e lanças, fortalecendo-as ainda mais. Assim, apenas Judá e Benjamim permaneceram sob seu controle.
13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their territory.
13 Todos os sacerdotes e levitas que moravam nas tribos do norte de Israel apoiaram Roboão.
14 For the Levites left their open districts and their possession, and went to Judah and Jerusalem; because Jerobo’am and his sons cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord,
14 Os levitas abandonaram suas pastagens e seus bens e se mudaram para Judá e Jerusalém, pois Jeroboão e seus filhos não permitiam que eles servissem ao S enhor como sacerdotes.
15 And because he ordained for himself priests for the high–places, and for the evil spirits, and for the calves which he had made.
15 Jeroboão nomeou seus próprios sacerdotes para servirem nos santuários idólatras, onde prestavam culto aos ídolos em forma de bodes e bezerros que ele havia feito.
16 And after them came out of all the tribes of Israel such as directed their heart to seek the Lord the God of Israel: these came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord, the God of their fathers.
16 De todas as tribos de Israel, aqueles que desejavam sinceramente adorar o S enhor , o Deus de Israel, acompanharam os levitas até Jerusalém, onde podiam oferecer sacrifícios ao S enhor , o Deus de seus antepassados.
17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and brought power to Rehobo’am, the son of Solomon, during three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon during three years.
17 Fortaleceram o reino de Judá e, durante três anos, apoiaram Roboão, filho de Salomão, pois durante esse tempo seguiram fielmente os passos de Davi e de Salomão.
18 And Rehobo’am took himself as wife Machalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and Abichayil the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
18 Roboão se casou com sua prima Maalate, filha de Jerimote, filho de Davi. A mãe dela era Abiail, filha de Eliabe, filho de Jessé.
19 And she bore to him sons: Je’ush, and Shamaryah, and Zaham.
19 Maalate deu à luz três filhos: Jeús, Semarias e Zaão.
20 And after her did he take Ma’achah the daughter of Abshalom; and she bore to him Abiyah, and ‘Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
20 Depois Roboão se casou com Maaca, neta de Absalão. Maaca deu à luz Abias, Atai, Ziza e Selomite.
21 And Rehobo’am loved Ma’achah the daughter of Abshalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines; and he begat twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.
21 Roboão amava Maaca mais que a qualquer outra de suas esposas e concubinas. Ao todo, teve 18 esposas e 60 concubinas, que deram à luz 28 filhos e 60 filhas.
22 And Rehobo’am appointed Abiyah the son of Ma’achah to be the chief, to be ruler among his brethren; because he desired to make him king.
22 Roboão nomeou Abias, filho de Maaca, como líder entre seus irmãos e, desse modo, deixou claro que ele seria seu sucessor.
23 And he dealt understandingly, and dispersed all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance and he required for them a multitude of wives.
23 Com inteligência, espalhou os outros filhos por toda a terra de Judá e de Benjamim e por todas as cidades fortificadas. Deu-lhes grande quantidade de suprimentos e arranjou muitas esposas para eles.
