1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.
1 A resposta branda desvia o furor, mas a palavra dura suscita a ira.
2 The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.
2 A língua dos sábios adorna a sabedoria, mas a boca dos tolos derrama a estultícia.
3 The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding those [who are] evil and those [who are] good.
3 Os olhos do Senhor estão em todo lugar, contemplando os maus e os bons.
4 The wholesome tongue [is a] tree of life, but perverseness therein [is] a breach in the spirit.
4 A língua benigna é árvore de vida, mas a perversidade nela deprime o espírito.
5 The fool despises his father's chastening, but he that regards reproof shall become prudent.
5 O tolo despreza a instrução de seu pai, mas o que observa a repreensão se haverá prudentemente.
6 In the house of the righteous [is] much provision, but in the fruit of the wicked is trouble.
6 Na casa do justo há um grande tesouro, mas nos ganhos do ímpio há perturbação.
7 The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish [does] not so.
7 Os lábios dos sábios derramam o conhecimento, mas o coração dos tolos não faz assim.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright [is] his delight.
8 O sacrifício dos ímpios é abominável ao Senhor, mas a oração dos retos é o seu contentamento.
9 The way of the wicked [is] an abomination unto the LORD, but he loves him that follows after righteousness.
9 O caminho do ímpio é abominável ao Senhor, mas ao que segue a justiça ele ama.
10 Chastening [is] grievous unto him that forsakes the way, but he that hates reproof shall die.
10 Correção severa há para o que deixa a vereda, e o que odeia a repreensão morrerá.
11 Sheol and hell [are] before the LORD; how much more then the hearts of men?
11 O inferno e a perdição estão perante o Senhor; quanto mais os corações dos filhos dos homens?
12 The scorner does not love [the] one that reproves him, neither will he go unto the wise.
12 O escarnecedor não ama aquele que o repreende, nem se chegará aos sábios.
13 A joyful heart makes a beautiful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is abated.
13 O coração alegre aformoseia o rosto, mas pela dor do coração o espírito se abate.
14 The heart of him that has understanding seeks wisdom, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
14 O coração entendido buscará o conhecimento, mas a boca dos tolos se apascentará de estultícia.
15 All the days of the poor [are] difficult, but he that is of a good heart [has] a continual feast.
15 Todos os dias do oprimido são maus, mas o coração alegre é um banquete contínuo.
16 Better [is] little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
16 Melhor é o pouco com o temor do Senhor, do que um grande tesouro onde há inquietação.
17 Better [is] a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted calf and hatred therewith.
17 Melhor é a comida de hortaliça, onde há amor, do que o boi cevado, e com ele o ódio.
18 A wrathful man stirs up strife, but [he that is] slow to anger appeases strife.
18 O homem iracundo suscita contendas, mas o longânimo apaziguará a luta.
19 The way of the slothful [man is] as a hedge of thorns, but the path of the righteous [is] made plain.
19 O caminho do preguiçoso é cercado de espinhos, mas a vereda dos retos é bem aplanada.
20 The wise son makes a glad father, but the foolish man despises his mother.
20 O filho sábio alegra seu pai, mas o homem insensato despreza a sua mãe.
21 Folly [is] joy to [him that is] destitute of understanding, but the man who is intelligent walks uprightly.
21 A estultícia é alegria para o que carece de entendimento, mas o homem entendido anda retamente.
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
22 Quando não há conselhos os planos se dispersam, mas havendo muitos conselheiros eles se firmam.
23 A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [it is]!
23 O homem se alegra em responder bem, e quão boa é a palavra dita a seu tempo!
24 The way of life [is] uphill to the wise, that he may separate himself from Sheol below.
24 Para o entendido, o caminho da vida leva para cima, para que se desvie do inferno em baixo.
25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.
25 O Senhor desarraiga a casa dos soberbos, mas estabelece o termo da viúva.
26 The thoughts of the wicked [are] an abomination to the LORD, but the speech of the pure is pure.
26 Abomináveis são para o Senhor os pensamentos do mau, mas as palavras dos puros são aprazíveis.
27 He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.
27 O que agir com avareza perturba a sua casa, mas o que odeia presentes viverá.
28 The heart of the righteous studies to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
28 O coração do justo medita no que há de responder, mas a boca dos ímpios jorra coisas más.
29 The LORD [is] far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
29 O Senhor está longe dos ímpios, mas a oração dos justos escutará.
30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, [and] a good report makes the bones fat.
30 A luz dos olhos alegra o coração, a boa notícia fortalece os ossos.
31 The ear that hears the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.
31 Os ouvidos que atendem à repreensão da vida farão a sua morada no meio dos sábios.
32 He that refuses chastening despises his own soul, but he that hears reproof has an [understanding] heart.
32 O que rejeita a instrução menospreza a própria alma, mas o que escuta a repreensão adquire entendimento.
33 The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom, and before honour [is] humility.:
33 O temor do Senhor é a instrução da sabedoria, e precedendo a honra vai a humildade.
