¹ Elihu proceeded in his reasoning and said,

¹ Disse mais Eliú:

² Dost thou think this to be right, [when] thou didst say, I am more righteous than God?

² Achas que é justo dizeres: Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?

³ For thou didst say, What advantage will it be unto thee? [And], What profit shall I have, [if] I am cleansed] from my sin?

³ Porque dizes: De que me serviria ela? Que proveito tiraria dela mais do que do meu pecado?

⁴ I will answer thee and thy companions with thee.

⁴ Dar-te-ei resposta, a ti e aos teus amigos contigo.

⁵ Look unto the heavens and see; and behold the heavens [which] are higher than thou.

⁵ Atenta para os céus e vê; contempla as altas nuvens acima de ti.

⁶ If thou dost sin, what hast thou done against him? Or [if] thy rebellion is multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

⁶ Se pecas, que mal lhe causas tu? Se as tuas transgressões se multiplicam, que lhe fazes?

⁷ If thou art righteous, what shalt thou give him? Or what shall he receive of thine hand?

⁷ Se és justo, que lhe dás ou que recebe ele da tua mão?

⁸ Thy wickedness [shall hurt] a man as thou [art]; and thy righteousness [shall profit] the son of man.

⁸ A tua impiedade só pode fazer o mal ao homem como tu mesmo; e a tua justiça, dar proveito ao filho do homem.

⁹ By reason of the great violence they shall call out; they cry out because of the strength of the many.

⁹ Por causa das muitas opressões, os homens clamam, clamam por socorro contra o braço dos poderosos.

¹⁰ But no one shall say, Where [is] God my maker, who gives songs in the night;

¹⁰ Mas ninguém diz: Onde está Deus, que me fez, que inspira canções de louvor durante a noite,

¹¹ who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

¹¹ que nos ensina mais do que aos animais da terra e nos faz mais sábios do que as aves dos céus?

¹² There they shall cry, but he shall give no answer because of the pride of those that are evil.

¹² Clamam, porém ele não responde, por causa da arrogância dos maus.

¹³ Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty look upon it.

¹³ Só gritos vazios Deus não ouvirá, nem atentará para eles o Todo-Poderoso.

¹⁴ For much that thou dost say, he will not look upon it, [submit to] judgment before him, and trust thou in him.

¹⁴ Jó, ainda que dizes que não o vês, a tua causa está diante dele; por isso, espera nele.

¹⁵ But now, because he has not visited in wrath; nor is it known in great extremity;

¹⁵ Mas agora, porque Deus na sua ira não está punindo, nem fazendo muito caso das transgressões,

¹⁶ therefore, Job opened his mouth in vain and multiplied words without knowledge.:

¹⁶ abres a tua boca, com palavras vãs, amontoando frases de ignorante.
