1 Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered and said,
1 Então respondeu Zofar, o naamatita, e disse:
2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified?
2 Porventura não se dará resposta à multidão de palavras? E o homem falador será justificado?
3 Should thy lies make men be silent? Shalt thou mock, and shall no man make thee ashamed?
3 Às tuas mentiras se hão de calar os homens? E zombarás tu sem que ninguém te envergonhe?
4 For thou hast said, My doctrine [is] pure, and I am clean before thine eyes.
4 Pois dizes: A minha doutrina é pura, e limpo sou aos teus olhos.
5 But oh, that God would speak and open his lips against thee
5 Mas na verdade, quem dera que Deus falasse e abrisse os seus lábios contra ti!
6 and that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom! For thou dost deserve double according to sound wisdom; and thou dost know that God has forgotten thee because of thine iniquity.
6 E te fizesse saber os segredos da sabedoria, que é multíplice em eficácia; sabe, pois, que Deus exige de ti menos do que merece a tua iniqüidade.
7 Canst thou by searching find out God? Canst thou come unto the perfection of the Almighty?
7 Porventura alcançarás os caminhos de Deus, ou chegarás à perfeição do Todo-Poderoso?
8 It is higher than the heavens; what canst thou do? It is deeper than Sheol; how canst thou know it?
8 Como as alturas dos céus é a sua sabedoria; que poderás tu fazer? É mais profunda do que o inferno, que poderás tu saber?
9 The measure of it [is] longer than the earth and broader than the sea.
9 Mais comprida é a sua medida do que a terra, e mais larga do que o mar.
10 If he cuts off, or shuts up, or gathers together, then who can hinder him?
10 Se ele passar, aprisionar, ou chamar a juízo, quem o impedirá?
11 For he knows the vain men; and he sees the iniquity; will he not then understand [it]?
11 Porque ele conhece aos homens vãos, e vê o vício; e não o terá em consideração?
12 The vain man shall make himself understood, though man is born [like] a wild ass's colt.
12 Mas o homem vão é falto de entendimento; sim, o homem nasce como a cria do jumento montês.
13 If thou would prepare thine heart and stretch out thine hands toward him;
13 Se tu preparares o teu coração, e estenderes as tuas mãos para ele;
14 if there is any iniquity in thy hand and thou dost put it far away and dost not consent that wickedness dwell in thy habitations,
14 Se há iniqüidade na tua mão, lança-a para longe de ti e não deixes habitar a injustiça nas tuas tendas.
15 then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; thou shalt be strongly established and shalt not fear;
15 Porque então o teu rosto levantarás sem mácula; e estarás firme, e não temerás.
16 and thou shalt forget [thy] misery [and] remember [it] as waters that passed away;
16 Porque te esquecerás do cansaço, e lembrar-te-ás dele como das águas que já passaram.
17 and [thine] age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
17 E a tua vida mais clara se levantará do que o meio-dia; ainda que haja trevas, será como a manhã.
18 And thou shalt trust because there is hope; [yea], thou shalt dig and sleep in safety;
18 E terás confiança, porque haverá esperança; olharás em volta e repousarás seguro.
19 thou shalt lie down, and no one shall make [thee] afraid; and many shall make requests unto thee.
19 E deitar-te-ás, e ninguém te espantará; muitos suplicarão o teu favor.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall consume themselves, and they shall have no refuge, and their hope [shall be] agony of the soul.:
20 Porém os olhos dos ímpios desfalecerão, e perecerá o seu refúgio; e a sua esperança será o expirar da alma.
