1 Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
1 Ora, tendo Cristo sofrido na carne, armai-vos também vós do mesmo pensamento; pois aquele que sofreu na carne deixou o pecado,
2 so that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God.
2 para que, no tempo que vos resta na carne, já não vivais de acordo com as paixões dos homens, mas segundo a vontade de Deus.
3 For it should suffice us that during the time past of [our] life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries.
3 Porque basta o tempo decorrido para terdes executado a vontade dos gentios, tendo andado em dissoluções, concupiscências, borracheiras, orgias, bebedices e em detestáveis idolatrias.
4 And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with [them] to the same unchecked dissolution;
4 Por isso, difamando-vos, estranham que não concorrais com eles ao mesmo excesso de devassidão,
5 the same shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
5 os quais hão de prestar contas àquele que é competente para julgar vivos e mortos;
6 Because for this cause was the gospel preached also to those that are dead, that they might be judged in flesh according to men, but live in spirit according to God.
6 pois, para este fim, foi o evangelho pregado também a mortos, para que, mesmo julgados na carne segundo os homens, vivam no espírito segundo Deus.
7 But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.
7 Ora, o fim de todas as coisas está próximo; sede, portanto, criteriosos e sóbrios a bem das vossas orações.
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves; for charity shall cover [a] multitude of sins.
8 Acima de tudo, porém, tende amor intenso uns para com os outros, porque o amor cobre multidão de pecados.
9 Lovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.
9 Sede, mutuamente, hospitaleiros, sem murmuração.
10 Let each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God.
10 Servi uns aos outros, cada um conforme o dom que recebeu, como bons despenseiros da multiforme graça de Deus.
11 If anyone speaks, [let him speak] as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, [let them do it] according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
11 Se alguém fala, fale de acordo com os oráculos de Deus; se alguém serve, faça-o na força que Deus supre, para que, em todas as coisas, seja Deus glorificado, por meio de Jesus Cristo, a quem pertence a glória e o domínio pelos séculos dos séculos. Amém!
12 Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you,
12 Amados, não estranheis o fogo ardente que surge no meio de vós, destinado a provar-vos, como se alguma coisa extraordinária vos estivesse acontecendo;
13 but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph.
13 pelo contrário, alegrai-vos na medida em que sois coparticipantes dos sofrimentos de Cristo, para que também, na revelação de sua glória, vos alegreis exultando.
14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
14 Se, pelo nome de Cristo, sois injuriados, bem-aventurados sois, porque sobre vós repousa o Espírito da glória e de Deus.
15 So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others.
15 Não sofra, porém, nenhum de vós como assassino, ou ladrão, ou malfeitor, ou como quem se intromete em negócios de outrem;
16 But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.
16 mas, se sofrer como cristão, não se envergonhe disso; antes, glorifique a Deus com esse nome.
17 For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if [it] first [begins] with us, what shall the end [be] of those that do not obey the gospel of God?
17 Porque a ocasião de começar o juízo pela casa de Deus é chegada; ora, se primeiro vem por nós, qual será o fim daqueles que não obedecem ao evangelho de Deus?
18 And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?
18 E, se é com dificuldade que o justo é salvo, onde vai comparecer o ímpio, sim, o pecador?
19 Therefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls [unto him] as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.:
19 Por isso, também os que sofrem segundo a vontade de Deus encomendem a sua alma ao fiel Criador, na prática do bem.
