1 Be not thou envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them.
1 Não tenha inveja dos maus, nem deseje a companhia deles.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
2 Pois tramam violência no coração, e suas palavras sempre causam problemas.
3 Through wisdom is a house builded; and by understanding it is established;
3 Com sabedoria se constrói a casa, e com entendimento ela se fortalece.
4 And by knowledge are the chambers filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
4 Pelo conhecimento seus cômodos se enchem de toda espécie de bens preciosos e desejáveis.
5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
5 O sábio é mais poderoso que o forte; quem tem conhecimento se fortalece sempre mais.
6 For with wise advice thou shalt make thy war; and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
6 Portanto, não saia para guerrear sem boa orientação; com muitos conselheiros se obtém a vitória.
7 Wisdom is as unattainable to a fool as corals; he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
7 A sabedoria é elevada demais para o insensato; entre os líderes à porta da cidade, nada tem a dizer.
8 He that deviseth to do evil, men shall call him a mischievous person.
8 Quem planeja o mal se torna conhecido como criador de problemas.
9 The thought of foolishness is sin; and the scorner is an abomination to men.
9 Os planos do insensato são pecado; o zombador é detestável para todos.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small indeed.
10 Se você vacilar no momento de dificuldade, sua força será pequena.
11 Deliver them that are drawn unto death; and those that are ready to be slain wilt thou forbear to rescue?
11 Liberte os que foram injustamente condenados a morrer; salve-os enquanto vão tropeçando para a morte.
12 If thou sayest: 'Behold, we knew not this', doth not He that weigheth the hearts consider it? And He that keepeth thy soul, doth not He know it? And shall not He render to every man according to his works?
12 Não se desculpe, dizendo: “Não sabia o que estava acontecendo”; lembre-se de que Deus conhece cada coração. Aquele que zela por sua vida sabe que você estava ciente; ele retribuirá a cada um conforme suas ações.
13 My son, eat thou honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to thy taste;
13 Meu filho, coma mel, pois é bom, e o favo é doce ao paladar.
14 So know thou wisdom to be unto thy soul; if thou hast found it, then shall there be a future, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
14 Da mesma forma, a sabedoria é doce para a alma; se você a encontrar, terá um futuro brilhante, e suas esperanças não serão frustradas.
15 Lie not in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous, spoil not his resting-place;
15 Não seja como o perverso, que fica de tocaia na frente da casa do justo, nem ataque a moradia dele.
16 For a righteous man falleth seven times, and riseth up again, but the wicked stumble under adversity.
16 Ainda que o justo tropece sete vezes, voltará a se levantar, mas uma só calamidade é suficiente para derrubar o perverso.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth;
17 Não se alegre quando seu inimigo cair; não exulte quando ele tropeçar.
18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.
18 Pois o S enhor se desagradará disso e dele desviará sua ira.
19 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious at the wicked;
19 Não se perturbe por causa dos maus; não tenha inveja dos perversos.
20 For there will be no future to the evil man, the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
20 Pois os maus não têm futuro; a luz dos perversos se apagará.
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king, and meddle not with them that are given to change;
21 Meu filho, tema o S enhor e o rei e não se associe com os rebeldes,
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin from them both?
22 pois serão destruídos repentinamente; quem sabe que castigo virá do S
23 These also are sayings of the wise. To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.
23 Estes são mais alguns ditados dos sábios: É errado tomar partido quando se julga um caso.
24 He that saith unto the wicked: 'Thou art righteous', peoples shall curse him, nations shall execrate him;
24 O juiz que diz ao perverso: “Você é inocente”, será amaldiçoado pelo povo e odiado pelas nações.
25 But to them that decide justly shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
25 Mas as coisas irão bem para os que condenam o culpado; eles receberão grandes bênçãos.
26 He kisseth the lips that giveth a right answer.
26 Uma resposta honesta é como um beijo de amizade.
27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thy house.
27 Antes de construir sua casa, planeje-se e prepare os campos.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
28 Não testemunhe contra o próximo sem motivo; não minta a respeito dele.
29 Say not: 'I will do so to him as he hath done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.'
29 E não diga: “Agora vou me vingar do que ele me fez! Vou acertar as contas com ele!”.
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
30 Passei pelo campo do preguiçoso, pelo vinhedo daquele que não tem juízo.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thistles, the face thereof was covered with nettles, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
31 Tudo estava cheio de espinhos e coberto de ervas daninhas, e seu muro de pedras, em ruínas.
32 Then I beheld, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction.
32 Então, enquanto observava e pensava no que via, aprendi esta lição:
33 'Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep'--
33 Um pouco mais de sono, mais um cochilo, mais um descanso com os braços cruzados,
34 So shall thy poverty come as a runner, and thy want as an armed man.
34 e a pobreza o assaltará como um bandido; a escassez o atacará como um ladrão armado.
