1 Then Job answered and said:
1 Então em resposta Jó disse:
2 How long will ye vex my soul, and crush me with words?
2 “Até quando vocês vão ficar me atormentando e me ferindo com as suas palavras?
3 These ten times have ye reproached me; ye are not ashamed that ye deal harshly with me.
3 Vocês já me insultaram várias vezes. Será que não se envergonham de me tratar tão mal?
4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
4 Mesmo que eu fosse culpado, será que o meu erro prejudicaria vocês?
5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach;
5 Vocês pensam que são melhores do que eu e acham que a minha desgraça prova que sou culpado.
6 Know now that God hath subverted my cause, and hath compassed me with His net.
6 “Pois fiquem sabendo que Deus foi injusto comigo; foi ele que armou uma armadilha para me pegar.
7 Behold, I cry out: 'Violence!' but I am not heard; I cry aloud, but there is no justice.
7 Eu protesto contra a sua violência, mas ninguém me ouve; eu peço ajuda, porém não existe justiça.
8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and hath set darkness in my paths.
8 Deus fechou o meu caminho com um muro, de modo que não consigo passar; ele cobriu de escuridão os meus caminhos.
9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
9 Deus tirou toda a minha riqueza e destruiu a boa fama que eu tinha.
10 He hath broken me down on every side, and I am gone; and my hope hath He plucked up like a tree.
10 Ele me atacou por todos os lados até acabar comigo e arrancou pelas raízes a minha esperança.
11 He hath also kindled His wrath against me, and He counteth me unto Him as one of His adversaries.
11 A sua ira contra mim queimou como fogo; ele me tratou como se eu fosse um inimigo.
12 His troops come on together, and cast up their way against me, and encamp round about my tent.
12 Ele me atacou com desgraças; como se fossem tropas, elas cavaram trincheiras e acamparam em volta da minha casa.
13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are wholly estranged from me.
13 “Deus fez com que os meus irmãos me abandonassem; os meus conhecidos me tratam como se eu fosse um estranho.
14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
14 Os meus parentes se afastaram; os meus amigos não lembram mais de mim.
15 They that dwell in my house, and my maids, count me for a stranger; I am become an alien in their sight.
15 Os meus hóspedes fazem de conta que não me conhecem; as minhas empregadas me tratam como se eu fosse um estrangeiro.
16 I call unto my servant, and he giveth me no answer, though I entreat him with my mouth.
16 Chamo um empregado, e ele não me atende, nem mesmo quando peço alguma coisa por favor.
17 My breath is abhorred of my wife, and I am loathsome to the children of my tribe.
17 A minha mulher não tolera o mau cheiro da minha boca; os meus irmãos têm nojo de mim.
18 Even urchins despised me; if I arise, they speak against me.
18 Até as crianças me desprezam; assim que me levanto, já estão zombando de mim.
19 All my intimate friends abhor me; and they whom I loved are turned against me.
19 Todos os meus amigos íntimos me detestam; as pessoas que eu mais estimo estão contra mim.
20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
20 Virei pele e osso; mal consigo ir vivendo.
21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
21 Meus amigos, tenham pena de mim, pois foi a mão de Deus que me feriu.
22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
22 Por que vocês me perseguem como Deus me persegue? Por que não param de me atormentar?
23 Oh that my words were now written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book!
23 “Como gostaria que as minhas palavras fossem escritas, que fossem escritas num livro!
24 That with an iron pen and lead they were graven in the rock for ever!
24 Ou que com uma ponteira de ferro elas fossem gravadas para sempre no chumbo ou na pedra!
25 But as for me, I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He will witness at the last upon the dust;
25 Pois eu sei que o meu defensor vive; no fim, ele virá me defender aqui na terra.
26 And when after my skin this is destroyed, then without my flesh shall I see God;
26 Mesmo que a minha pele seja toda comida pela doença, ainda neste corpo eu verei a Deus.
27 Whom I, even I, shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another's. My reins are consumed within me.
27 Eu o verei com os meus olhos; os meus olhos o verão, e ele não será um estranho para mim. E desejo tanto que isso aconteça!
28 If ye say: 'How we will persecute him!' seeing that the root of the matter is found in me;
28 “Vocês dizem: ‘Como foi que nós o atormentamos? A causa desta desgraça está nele mesmo.’
29 Be ye afraid of the sword; for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
29 Mas tenham medo da espada, a espada com que Deus castiga a maldade. Fiquem sabendo que há alguém que nos julga.”
