1 Later on, there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
1 Depois disso, havia uma festa dos judeus, e Jesus subiu para Jerusalém.
2 Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem is a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew. It has five colonnades,
2 Ora, em Jerusalém, próximo ao mercado das ovelhas, há um tanque, que é chamado na língua hebraica Betesda, o qual tem cinco alpendres.
3 and under these a large number of sick people were lying—blind, lame, or paralyzed—waiting for the movement of the water.
3 Nestes jazia grande multidão de pessoas enfermas, cegos, mancos e paralíticos, esperando o movimento da água.
4 For at certain times an angel of the Lord would go down into the pool and stir up the water. And the one who stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.
4 Pois um anjo descia em certo tempo ao tanque, e agitava a água; aquele, pois, que primeiro entrava na água, após ter sido agitada, sarava de qualquer enfermidade que ele tivesse.
5 One particular man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.
5 E ali estava um certo homem, que tinha uma enfermidade há trinta e oito anos.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him,“Do you want to get well?”
6 E Jesus, vendo este deitado e sabendo que ele estava neste estado havia muito tempo, disse-lhe: Tu queres ficar são?
7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I don't have anyone to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I'm trying to get there, someone else steps down ahead of me.”
7 O homem enfermo respondeu-lhe: Senhor, eu não tenho homem algum que me coloque no tanque quando a água é agitada; mas, enquanto eu vou, desce outro antes de mim.
8 Jesus said to him,“Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
8 Jesus disse-lhe: Levanta-te, toma o teu leito, e anda.
9 The man immediately became well, and he picked up his mat and started walking. Now that day was a Sabbath.
9 E, imediatamente o homem ficou são, e tomou o seu leito, e andou; e aquele dia era o shabat.
10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.”
10 Então, os judeus disseram àquele que tinha sido curado: É dia do shabat, não te é lícito carregar teu leito.
11 But he answered them, “The man who made me well told me,‘Pick up your mat and walk.’”
11 Ele respondeu-lhes: Aquele que me curou, ele mesmo disse: Toma o teu leito, e anda.
12 They asked him, “Who is the man who told you,‘Pick it up and walk’?”
12 Então eles perguntaram: Quem é o homem que te disse: Toma o teu leito, e anda?
13 But the one who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away from the crowd in that place.
13 E o que fora curado não sabia quem era, porque Jesus havia se afastado, por causa da multidão naquele lugar.
14 Later on, Jesus found him in the temple and told him,“See, you have become well. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”
14 Depois, Jesus encontrou-o no templo e disse-lhe: Eis que tu já estás são; não peques mais, para que te não aconteça coisa pior.
15 The man went off and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
15 O homem partiu, e contou aos judeus que era Jesus o que o curara.
16 So the Jews began persecuting Jesus because he kept doing such things on the Sabbath.
16 E por isso os judeus perseguiam a Jesus, e buscavam matá-lo, porque ele fazia essas coisas no dia do shabat.
17 But Jesus answered them,“My Father has been working until now, and I, too, am working.”
17 Mas Jesus lhes respondeu: Meu Pai trabalha até agora, e eu também trabalho.
18 So the Jews were trying all the harder to kill him, because he was not only breaking the Sabbath but was also calling God his own Father, thus making himself equal to God.
18 Portanto, os judeus ainda mais procuravam matá-lo, porque não só violava o shabat, mas também dizia que Deus era seu Pai, fazendo-se igual a Deus.
19 Jesus said to them,“Truly, truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For what he does, the Son does likewise.
19 Então, respondeu Jesus e disse-lhes: Na verdade, na verdade eu vos digo: O Filho não pode fazer nada por si mesmo, a não ser o que vê o Pai fazendo; porque todas as coisas que ele faz, o Filho também da mesma forma o faz.
20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. And he will show him even greater works than these, so that you may be amazed.
20 Porque o Pai ama ao Filho, e mostra-lhe todas as coisas que ele mesmo faz; e ele lhe mostrará maiores obras do que estas, para que vos maravilheis.
21 Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to those he chooses.
21 Porque assim como o Pai levanta os mortos e os vivifica, assim também o Filho vivifica aqueles que quer.
22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
22 Porque o Pai a nenhum homem julga, mas confiou ao Filho todo o julgamento;
23 so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
23 para que todos os homens honrem o Filho, assim como honram o Pai. Quem não honra o Filho, não honra o Pai que o enviou.
24 “Truly, truly I tell you, the one who hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and does not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life.
24 Na verdade, na verdade eu vos digo: Quem ouve a minha palavra, e crê naquele que me enviou, tem a vida eterna, e não entrará em condenação, mas já passou da morte para a vida.
25 Truly, truly I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear it will live.
25 Na verdade, na verdade eu vos digo: Vem a hora, e agora é, em que os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus, e os que a ouvirem viverão.
26 For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he has granted the Son to have life in himself.
26 Porque assim como o Pai tem vida em si mesmo, assim deu ao Filho ter vida em si mesmo.
27 And he has given him authority to pass judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
27 E deu-lhe autoridade para também executar julgamento, porque ele é o Filho do homem.
28 Don't be amazed at this, because the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice
28 Não vos maravilheis disso, porque vem a hora em que todos os que estão nos sepulcros ouvirão a sua voz,
29 and will come out—those who have done what is good to the resurrection of life, and those who have practiced what is evil to the resurrection of condemnation.
29 e sairão os que fizeram o bem para a ressurreição da vida, e os que fizeram o mal para a ressurreição da condenação.
30 I can do nothing on my own accord. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.”
30 Eu não posso fazer nada por mim mesmo; como eu ouço, eu julgo; e o meu juízo é justo, porque não busco a minha própria vontade, mas a vontade do Pai que me enviou.
31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
31 Se eu der testemunho de mim mesmo, o meu testemunho não é verdadeiro.
32 There is another who testifies about me, and I knowthat the testimony he gives about me is true.
32 Há outro que dá testemunho de mim, e eu sei que o testemunho que ele dá de mim é verdadeiro.
33 You have sent messengersto John, and he has testified to the truth.
33 Vós mandastes a João, e ele deu testemunho da verdade.
34 I myself do not accept human testimony, but I am saying these things so that you may be saved.
34 Eu, porém, não recebo testemunho vindo de homem, mas eu digo estas coisas, para que possais ser salvos.
35 That man was a lamp that burns and brightly shines, and for a while you were willing to rejoice in his light.
35 Ele era a luz que iluminava e resplandecia, e vós quisestes alegrar-vos por um pouco de tempo com a sua luz.
36 But I have a greater testimony than John's, for the works that the Father has given me to complete, the very works that I am doing, testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.
36 Mas eu tenho um testemunho maior do que o de João; porque as obras que o Pai me deu para realizar, essas obras que eu faço testemunham de mim, que o Pai me enviou.
37 Moreover, the Father who sent me has himself testified on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his appearance,
37 E o próprio Pai, que me enviou, tem dado testemunho de mim. Vós nunca ouvistes a sua voz, nem vistes a sua forma.
38 nor do you have his word abiding in you, because you do not believe in the one whom he sent.
38 E a sua palavra não permanece em vós, porque vós não credes naquele que ele enviou.
39 You examine the Scriptures carefully because you suppose that in them you have eternal life. Yet they testify about me.
39 Examinai as escrituras; porque nelas pensai que tendes a vida eterna; e são elas que testificam de mim.
40 But you are not willing to come to me to have life.
40 E não quereis vir a mim para terdes vida.
41 “I do not accept human praise.
41 Eu não recebo honra dos homens.
42 I know that you do not have the love of God in you.
42 Mas eu vos conheço e sei que não tendes em vós o amor de Deus.
43 I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me. Yet if another man comes in his own name, you will accept him.
43 Eu vim em nome de meu Pai, e não me recebeis; se outro vier em seu próprio nome, a esse recebereis.
44 How can you believe when you accept each other's praise and do not look for the praise that comes from the only God?
44 Como podeis crer, vós que recebeis honra uns dos outros, e não buscais a honra que vem só de Deus?
45 Do not suppose that I will be the one to accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
45 Não penseis que eu vos hei de acusar para o Pai; há um que vos acusa, Moisés, em quem vós confiais.
46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, for it was about me that he wrote.
46 Porque se vós crêsseis em Moisés, teriam crido em mim, porque de mim ele escreveu.
47 But if you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe my words?”
47 Mas, se não credes nos seus escritos, como crereis nas minhas palavras?
