1 As for you, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
1 Tu, pois, meu filho, fortifica-te na graça que há em Cristo Jesus.
2 What you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.
2 E o que de mim, entre muitas testemunhas, ouviste, confia-o a homens fiéis, que sejam idôneos para também ensinarem os outros.
3 Join me in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
3 Sofre, pois, comigo, as aflições, como bom soldado de Jesus Cristo.
4 No one serving in the military gets mixed up in civilian matters, for his aim is to please his commanding officer.
4 Ninguém que milita se embaraça com negócio d esta vida, a fim de agradar àquele que o alistou para a guerra.
5 Moreover, no one who is an athlete wins a prize unless he competes according to the rules.
5 E, se alguém também milita, não é coroado se não militar legitimamente.
6 Furthermore, it is the hard working farmer who should have the first share of the crops.

8 Meditate on Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead and is a descendant of David. This is the gospel I tell others.
8 Lembra-te de que Jesus Cristo, que é da descendência de Davi, ressuscitou dos mortos, segundo o meu evangelho;
9 Because of it I am experiencing trouble, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. However, God's word is not chained.
9 pelo que sofro trabalhos e até prisões, como um malfeitor; mas a palavra de Deus não está presa.
10 For that reason, I endure everything for the sake of those who have been chosen so that they, too, may receive the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, along with eternal glory.
10 Portanto, tudo sofro por amor dos escolhidos, para que também eles alcancem a salvação que está em Cristo Jesus com glória eterna.
11 This saying is trustworthy: In dying with Christ,true life we gain.
11 Palavra fiel é esta: que, se morrermos com ele, também com ele viveremos;
12 Enduring, we with him shall reign.Who him denies,he will disclaim.
12 se sofrermos, também com ele reinaremos; se o negarmos, também ele nos negará;
13 Our faith may fail,his never wanes— For thus he is,he cannot change!
13 se formos infiéis, ele permanece fiel; não pode negar-se a si mesmo.
14 Remind others about these things, and warn them in the sight of God not to argue over words. Arguing does not do any good but only destroys those who are listening.
14 Traze estas coisas à memória, ordenando-lhes diante do Senhor que não tenham contendas de palavras, que para nada aproveitam e são para perversão dos ouvintes.
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as an approved worker who has nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of truth with precision.
15 Procura apresentar-te a Deus aprovado, como obreiro que não tem de que se envergonhar, que maneja bem a palavra da verdade.
16 However, avoid pointless discussions. For people will become more and more ungodly,
16 Mas evita os falatórios profanos, porque produzirão maior impiedade.
17 and what they say will spread everywhere like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are like that.
17 E a palavra desses roerá como gangrena; entre os quais são Himeneu e Fileto;
18 They have abandoned the truth by claiming that the resurrection has already taken place, and so they destroy the faith of others.
18 os quais se desviaram da verdade, dizendo que a ressurreição era já feita, e perverteram a fé de alguns.
19 However, God's solid foundation still stands. It has this inscription on it: “The Lord knows those who belong to him,” and “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from evil.”
19 Todavia, o fundamento de Deus fica firme, tendo este selo: O Senhor conhece os que são seus, e qualquer que profere o nome de Cristo aparte-se da iniquidade.
20 In a large house there are not only utensils made of gold and silver, but also those made of wood and clay. Some are for special use, while others are for ordinary use.
20 Ora, numa grande casa não somente há vasos de ouro e de prata, mas também de pau e de barro; uns para honra, outros, porém, para desonra.
21 Therefore, if anyone stops associating with these people, he will become a special utensil, set apart for the owner's use, prepared for every good work.
21 De sorte que, se alguém se purificar destas coisas, será vaso para honra, santificado e idôneo para uso do Senhor e preparado para toda boa obra.
22 Flee from youthful passions. Instead, pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace together with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart.
22 Foge, também, dos desejos da mocidade; e segue a justiça, a fé, o amor e a paz com os que, com um coração puro, invocam o Senhor.
23 Do not have anything to do with foolish and stupid discussions, because you know they breed arguments.
23 E rejeita as questões loucas e sem instrução, sabendo que produzem contendas.
24 A servant of the Lord must not argue. Instead, he must be kind to everyone, teachable, willing to suffer wrong,
24 E ao servo do Senhor não convém contender, mas, sim, ser manso para com todos, apto para ensinar, sofredor;
25 and gentle in refuting his opponents. After all, maybe God will allow them to repent and to come to a full knowledge of the truth,
25 instruindo com mansidão os que resistem, a ver se, porventura, Deus lhes dará arrependimento para conhecerem a verdade
26 so that they might escape from the devil's snare, even though they've been held captive by him to do his will.
26 e tornarem a despertar, desprendendo-se dos laços do diabo, em cuja vontade estão presos.
