1 Cast thy bread vpon the waters: for after many daies thou shalt finde it.
1 Envie os grãos de sua colheita mar afora, e com o tempo isso lhe trará retorno.
2 Giue a portion to seuen, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what euill shalbe vpon ye earth.
2 Invista seus recursos em vários lugares, pois desconhece os riscos adiante.
3 If the clouds be full, they wil powre forth raine vpon the earth: and if the tree doe fall toward the South, or toward the North, in the place that the tree falleth, there it shalbe.
3 Quando as nuvens estão carregadas, vêm as chuvas; quando a árvore cai, para o norte ou para o sul, ali permanece.
4 He that obserueth ye winde, shall not sow, and he that regardeth the cloudes, shall not reape.
4 O agricultor que espera condições de tempo perfeitas nunca semeia; se ele fica observando cada nuvem, não colhe.
5 As thou knowest not which is ye way of the spirit, nor how the bones doe growe in the wombe of her that is with child: so thou knowest not the worke of God that worketh all.
5 Assim como é impossível entender o caminho do vento ou o mistério do crescimento do bebê no ventre da mãe , também é impossível entender as obras de Deus, que faz todas as coisas.
6 In the morning sowe thy seede, and in the euening let not thine hand rest: for thou knowest not whither shall prosper, this or that, or whether both shalbe a like good.
6 Semeie pela manhã e continue a trabalhar à tarde, pois você não sabe se o lucro virá de uma atividade ou de outra, ou talvez de ambas.
7 Surely the light is a pleasant thing: and it is a good thing to the eyes to see the sunne.
7 A luz é doce; como é bom ver o nascer de um novo dia.
8 Though a man liue many yeeres, and in them all he reioyce, yet hee shall remember the daies of darkenesse, because they are manie, all that commeth is vanitie.
8 Se você chegar à velhice, desfrute cada dia de sua vida. Lembre-se, porém, que haverá muitos dias sombrios. Nada do que ainda está por vir faz sentido.
9 Reioyce, O yong man, in thy youth, and let thine heart cheere thee in the dayes of thy youth: and walke in the waies of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but knowe that for all these things, God wil bring thee to iudgement.
9 Jovem, alegre-se em sua juventude! Aproveite cada momento. Faça tudo que desejar; não perca nada! Lembre-se, porém, que Deus lhe pedirá contas de tudo que fizer.
10 Therefore take away griefe out of thine heart, and cause euil to depart from thy flesh: for childehood and youth are vanitie.
10 Não se preocupe com coisa alguma e mantenha o corpo saudável. Lembre-se, porém, que a juventude, e a vida inteira diante de você, não fazem sentido.
