1 Cast thy bread vpon the waters: for after many daies thou shalt finde it.
1 Lança o teu pão sobre as águas, porque, depois de muitos dias, o acharás.
2 Giue a portion to seuen, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what euill shalbe vpon ye earth.
2 Reparte com sete e ainda até com oito, porque não sabes que mal haverá sobre a terra.
3 If the clouds be full, they wil powre forth raine vpon the earth: and if the tree doe fall toward the South, or toward the North, in the place that the tree falleth, there it shalbe.
3 Estando as nuvens cheias, derramam a chuva sobre a terra, e, caindo a árvore para o sul ou para o norte, no lugar em que a árvore cair, ali ficará.
4 He that obserueth ye winde, shall not sow, and he that regardeth the cloudes, shall not reape.
4 Quem observa o vento nunca semeará, e o que olha para as nuvens nunca segará.
5 As thou knowest not which is ye way of the spirit, nor how the bones doe growe in the wombe of her that is with child: so thou knowest not the worke of God that worketh all.
5 Assim como tu não sabes qual o caminho do vento, nem como se formam os ossos no ventre da que está grávida, assim também não sabes as obras de Deus, que faz todas as coisas.
6 In the morning sowe thy seede, and in the euening let not thine hand rest: for thou knowest not whither shall prosper, this or that, or whether both shalbe a like good.
6 Pela manhã, semeia a tua semente e, à tarde, não retires a tua mão, porque tu não sabes qual prosperará; se esta, se aquela ou se ambas igualmente serão boas.
7 Surely the light is a pleasant thing: and it is a good thing to the eyes to see the sunne.
7 Verdadeiramente suave é a luz, e agradável é aos olhos ver o sol.
8 Though a man liue many yeeres, and in them all he reioyce, yet hee shall remember the daies of darkenesse, because they are manie, all that commeth is vanitie.
8 Mas, se o homem viver muitos anos e em todos eles se alegrar, também se deve lembrar dos dias das trevas, porque hão de ser muitos. Tudo quanto sucede é vaidade.
9 Reioyce, O yong man, in thy youth, and let thine heart cheere thee in the dayes of thy youth: and walke in the waies of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but knowe that for all these things, God wil bring thee to iudgement.
9 Alegra-te, jovem, na tua mocidade, e alegre-se o teu coração nos dias da tua mocidade, e anda pelos caminhos do teu coração e pela vista dos teus olhos; sabe, porém, que por todas essas coisas te trará Deus a juízo.
10 Therefore take away griefe out of thine heart, and cause euil to depart from thy flesh: for childehood and youth are vanitie.
10 Afasta, pois, a ira do teu coração e remove da tua carne o mal, porque a adolescência e a juventude são vaidade.
