1 And Iehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, but he was ioyned in affinitie with Ahab.
1 Josafá, que possuía riqueza e glória em abundância, aliou-se por casamento com Acab.
2 And after certaine yeeres he went downe to Ahab to Samaria: and Ahab slew sheepe and oxen for him in great nomber, and for the people that he had with him, and entised him to goe vp vnto Ramoth Gilead.
2 Ao cabo de alguns anos, desceu à Samaria, à casa de Acab. Para recebê-lo com a comitiva, este matou numerosos carneiros e bois. Em seguida, persuadiu-o a fazer guerra contra Ramot de Galaad.
3 And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.
3 Acab, rei de Israel, disse a Josafá, rei de Judá: Queres vir comigo para atacar Ramot de Galaad? Josafá respondeu-lhe: Farei o que fizeres, assim como meu exército. Iremos à guerra contigo.
4 And Iehoshaphat sayde vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsel, I pray thee, at the worde of the Lord this day.
4 Contudo, Josafá disse mais ao rei de Israel: Consulta primeiro, eu te peço, o oráculo do Senhor.
5 Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.
5 O rei de Israel reuniu os profetas, que eram em número de quatrocentos, e lhes perguntou: Devemos ir atacar Ramot de Galaad, ou devemos abster-nos disso? Eles responderam: Vai; o Senhor a entregará às mãos do rei.
6 But Iehoshaphat sayde, Is there heere neuer a Prophet more of the Lord that wee might inquire of him?
6 Mas Josafá replicou: Por acaso não existe aqui algum outro profeta do Senhor a quem possamos consultar?
7 And the King of Israel sayd vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whome wee may aske counsell of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophesie good vnto me, but alway euil: it is Michaiah the sonne of Imla. Then Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.
7 Sim, respondeu o rei de Israel, há ainda um, por meio do qual se poderia consultar o Senhor; mas eu o detesto, porque nunca anuncia algo de bom; sempre a desgraça. É Miquéias, filho de Jemla. Josafá disse: Não fale o rei assim.
8 And the King of Israel called an eunuche, and said, Call quickly Michaiah the sonne of Imla.
8 Então o rei de Israel fez sinal a um eunuco e lhe deu esta ordem: Faze vir o mais depressa possível Miquéias, filho de Jemla.
9 And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.
9 O rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, tomaram lugar, cada um num trono, revestidos de suas insígnias reais, na praça que está à entrada da porta de Samaria, e todos os profetas profetizavam em sua presença,
10 And Zidkiah ye sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Aramites vntill thou hast consumed them.
10 Sedecias, filho de Canaana, tinha feito para si chifres de ferro, e disse: Eis o que diz o Senhor: Com estes chifres ferirás os sírios até exterminá-los.
11 And all the Prophets prophesied so, saying, Go vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.
11 E todos os profetas profetizavam da mesma maneira, nesses termos: Sobe a Ramot de Galaad: Serás vencedor, porque o Senhor entregará a cidade às mãos do rei.
12 And the messenger that went to call Michaiah, spake to him, saying, Beholde, the wordes of the Prophets declare good to the King with one accord: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speake thou good.
12 Todavia, o mensageiro que tinha ido procurar Miquéias, lhe dizia: Os profetas são unânimes em predizer a vitória do rei. Seja teu oráculo conforme o deles. Predize o bom êxito.
13 And Michaiah saide, As the Lord liueth, whatsoeuer my God saith, that will I speake.
13 Miquéias respondeu: Por Deus, só anunciarei o que o Senhor me disser.
14 So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I leaue off? And he said, Goe yee vp, and prosper, and they shalbe deliuered into your hand.
14 Quando ele chegou perto do rei, disse-lhe o rei: Miquéias, devemos nós ir atacar Ramot de Galaad, ou devemos nós abster-nos disso? - Vai, respondeu Miquéias, serás vencedor; ela será entregue às mãos do rei.
15 And the King sayd to him, Howe oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell mee nothing but the trueth in the Name of the Lord?
15 Disse-lhe o rei: Quantas vezes terei que conjurar-te a que só digas a verdade em nome do Senhor?
16 Then he said, I saw al Israel scattered in the mountaines, as sheepe that haue no shepheard: and the Lord sayd, These haue no Master: let them returne euery man to his house in peace.
16 Respondeu então Miquéias: Vejo todo o Israel disperso pelas montanhas, qual um rebanho sem pastor. O Senhor disse: Estes não têm chefe; voltem eles tranqüilamente, cada qual para sua casa!
17 And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesie good vnto me, but euill?
17 Disse o rei de Israel a Josafá: Bem que eu te dizia que a meu respeito ele não havia de anunciar jamais alguma coisa boa; sempre a desgraça.
18 Againe hee saide, Therefore heare ye the worde of the Lord: I sawe the Lord sit vpon his throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing at his right hand, and at his left.
18 Replicou Miquéias: Escutai o oráculo do Senhor: eu vi o Senhor assentado no seu trono e todo o exército dos céus em volta dele, à sua direita e à sua esquerda.
19 And the Lord sayd, Who shall perswade Ahab King of Israel, that he may go vp, and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one spake and said thus, and another said that.
19 Disse o Senhor: Quem seduzirá a Acab para que suba a Ramot de Galaad e lá encontre sua perda? - Um respondia de um modo e outro de outro.
20 Then there came forth a spirit and stoode before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him. And the Lord said vnto him, Wherein?
20 Então um espírito avançou até a frente do Senhor e disse: Eu irei seduzi-lo. Perguntou o Senhor: De que maneira?
21 And he saide, I will goe out, and bee a false spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets. And hee said, Thou shalt perswade, and shalt also preuaile: goe forth and do so.
21 Vou, respondeu ele, fazendo-me espírito de mentira na boca de seus profetas. - É isso mesmo, replicou o Senhor. Conseguirás seduzi-lo. Vai e faze como disseste.
22 Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy Prophets, and the Lord hath determined euill against thee.
22 O Senhor infundiu, portanto, um espírito de mentira na boca de todos os profetas aqui presentes; mas foi a tua perda que decretou o Senhor.
23 Then Zidkiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, and smote Michaiah vpon the cheeke, and sayde, By what way went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to speake with thee?
23 Nesse momento, Sedecias, filho de Canaana, aproximou-se de Miquéias e deu-lhe uma bofetada, dizendo: Por onde saiu de mim o espírito do Senhor para falar-te?
24 And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see that day when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.
24 Vê-lo-ás, respondeu Miquéias, no dia em que hás de ir de aposento em aposento a fim de te esconderes.
25 And the King of Israel sayde, Take ye Michaiah, and cary him to Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the Kings sonne,
25 Então o rei de Israel deu esta ordem: Prendei Miquéias; conduzi-o a Amon, governador da cidade, e a Joás, filho do rei.
26 And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction vntil I returne in peace.
26 Dizei-lhes: Ordem do rei: Metei este homem na prisão; dai-lhe uma alimentação de mísero até que eu retorne são e salvo.
27 And Michaiah said, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he saide, Heare, all ye people.
27 Ao que Miquéias respondeu: Se realmente voltares são e salvo é sinal de que não falou o Senhor por mim. E acrescentou: Escutai bem, ó povo, tudo isso.
28 So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.
28 O rei de Israel subiu portanto a Ramot de Galaad com o rei de Judá, Josafá.
29 And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I will change my selfe, and enter into the battel: but put thou on thine apparel. So the King of Israel changed himselfe, and they went into the battel.
29 Ele lhe disse: Eu vou disfarçar-me para entrar no combate; tu, porém, veste tuas próprias roupas. O rei de Israel disfarçou-se, por conseguinte, antes de entrar em combate.
30 And the King of Aram had commanded the captaines of the charets that were with him, saying, Fight you not with small, nor great, but against the King of Israel onely.
30 Ora, o rei da Síria tinha dado a seus trinta e dois chefes de carros a ordem seguinte: Ninguém atacareis, seja pequeno ou grande, mas só o rei de Israel.
31 And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayde, It is the King of Israel: and they compassed about him to fight. But Iehoshaphat cryed, and the Lord helped him and moued them to depart from him.
31 Ao verem Josafá, os chefes dos carros disseram entre si: É certamente o rei de Israel, e avançaram sobre ele. Mas Josafá soltou seu grito {de guerra}, e o Senhor o socorreu; Deus afastou dele os sírios.
32 For when the captaines of the charets saw that hee was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.
32 Então os chefes dos carros, vendo que não era o rei de Israel, afastaram-se dele.
33 Then a certaine man drewe a bowe mightily, and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine: Therefore he saide to his charetman, Turne thine hand, and carie mee out of the host: for I am hurt.
33 Nesse momento, um homem que tinha retesado o arco ao acaso, feriu o rei de Israel na parte fraca da couraça. O rei disse ao cocheiro de seu carro: Volta a rédea e conduze-me para fora do campo, porque estou ferido.
34 And the battel increased that day: and the King of Israel stood still in his charet against the Aramites vntil euen, and dyed at the time of the sunne going downe.
34 Mas, nesse dia, o combate foi tão violento, que o rei teve que ficar em pé no carro diante dos sírios, até a tarde. Ao pôr-do-sol, ele morreu.
