1 Brethren, whether ye know not; for I speak to men that know the law; for the law hath lordship in a man (or for the Law hath lordship over a man), as long (a) time as he liveth?
1 Meus irmãos, vocês todos podem compreender muito bem o que vou dizer. Vocês conhecem as leis e sabem que elas só têm poder sobre uma pessoa enquanto essa pessoa está viva.
2 For that woman that is under an husband, is bound to the law, while the husband liveth; but if her husband is dead, she is delivered [or she is unbound] from the law of the husband.

3 Therefore she shall be called (an) adulteress, if she be with another man, while the husband liveth; but if her husband is dead, she is delivered from the law of the husband, (or but if her husband dieth, she is released from the marriage law), (so) that she be not (an) adulteress, if she be with another man.
3 De modo que, se ela viver com outro homem enquanto o marido estiver vivo, ela será chamada de adúltera. Mas, se o marido morrer, ela estará legalmente livre e não cometerá adultério se casar com outro homem.
4 And so, my brethren, ye be made dead to the law by the body of Christ, (so) that ye be of another, that rose again from death (or who rose again from the dead), (so) that ye bear fruit to God. [Truly, brethren, and ye be made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that ye be another’s, that rose again from \+sls (the)\+sls* dead, \+sls (so)\+sls* that we bear fruit to God.]
4 O mesmo acontece com vocês, meus irmãos. Do ponto de vista da lei, vocês também já morreram, pois são parte do corpo de Cristo. E agora pertencem a ele, que foi ressuscitado para que nós possamos viver uma vida útil no serviço de Deus.
5 For when we were in (the) flesh, (the) passions of sins, that were by the law (or which were stirred up by the Law), wrought in our members, to bear fruit to death.
5 Pois, quando vivíamos de acordo com a nossa natureza humana, os maus desejos despertados pela lei agiam em todo o nosso ser e nos levavam para a morte.
6 But now we be unbound from the law of death, in which we were held, so that we serve in (a) newness of spirit, and not in (the) oldness of (the) letter.
6 Porém agora estamos livres da lei porque já morremos para aquilo que nos mantinha prisioneiros. Por isso somos livres para servir a Deus não da maneira antiga, obedecendo à lei escrita, mas da maneira nova, obedecendo ao Espírito de Deus.
7 What therefore shall we say? The law is sin? God forbid. But I knew not sin, [no] but by [the] law, (or But I did not know sin, except for the Law); for I knew not that coveting was sin, [no] but for the law said, Thou shalt not covet.
7 O que vamos dizer então? Que a própria lei é pecado? É claro que não! Mas foi a lei que me fez saber o que é pecado. Pois eu não saberia o que é a cobiça se a lei não tivesse dito: “Não cobice.”
8 And through occasion taken, sin by the commandment hath wrought in me all covetousness; for without the law, sin was dead.
8 Porém o pecado se aproveitou dessa lei para despertar em mim todo tipo de cobiça. Porque, se não existe a lei, o pecado é uma coisa morta.
9 And I lived without the law sometime; but when the commandment was come [or but when the commandment had come], sin lived again. But I was dead,
9 Pois houve um tempo em que eu não conhecia a lei e estava vivo. Mas, quando fiquei conhecendo o mandamento, o pecado começou a viver,
10 and this commandment that was to life, was found to me, to be to death.
10 e eu morri. E o próprio mandamento que me devia trazer a vida me trouxe a morte.
11 For sin, through occasion taken by the commandment, deceived me, and by that it slew me.
11 Porque o pecado, aproveitando a oportunidade dada pelo mandamento, me enganou e, por meio do mandamento, me matou.
12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, and just, and good.
12 Assim a lei vem de Deus; e o mandamento também vem de Deus, diz o que é certo e é bom.
13 Is then that thing that is good, made death to me? God forbid. But sin, that it seem sin, through good thing wrought death to me, (so) that me sin over-manner/(so) that men sin over-manner through the commandment. [Therefore that that is good, is made death to me? Far be it. But that sin appear, or be known, \+sls (as)\+sls* sin, through good thing wrought death to me, \+sls (so)\+sls* that there be made sin sinning over-manner or over-measure, by \+sls (the)\+sls* commandment.]
13 Então será que o que é bom me levou à morte? É claro que não! Foi o pecado que fez isso. Pois o pecado, usando o que é bom, me trouxe a morte para que ficasse bem claro aquilo que o pecado realmente é. E assim, por meio do mandamento, o pecado se mostrou mais terrível ainda.
14 And we know, that the law is spiritual; but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
14 Sabemos que a lei é divina; mas eu sou humano e fraco e fui vendido ao pecado para ser seu escravo.
15 For I understand not that that I work; for I do not the good thing that I will, (or for I do not do the good thing that I desire to do), but I do that evil thing that I hate.
15 Eu não entendo o que faço, pois não faço o que gostaria de fazer. Pelo contrário, faço justamente aquilo que odeio.
16 And if I do that thing that I will not, (then) I consent to the law, that it is good. (And if I do that which I do not desire to do, then I agree with the Law, that it is good, or that it is right.)
16 Se faço o que não quero, isso prova que reconheço que a lei diz o que é certo.
17 But now I work not it now, but the sin that dwelleth in me. [Now soothly I work not it now/Now soothly I work not that thing now, but that sin that dwelleth in me.]
17 E isso mostra que, de fato, já não sou eu quem faz isso, mas o pecado que vive em mim é que faz.
18 But I know, that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good; for will lieth to me, (or for the will, or the desire, to do good, lieth \+em before\+em* me), but I find not (how) to perform (any) good thing.
18 Pois eu sei que aquilo que é bom não vive em mim, isto é, na minha natureza humana. Porque, mesmo tendo dentro de mim a vontade de fazer o bem, eu não consigo fazê-lo.
19 For I do not that good thing that I will, but I do that evil thing that I will not. (For I do not do that good thing that I desire to do, but I do that evil thing that I do not desire to do.)
19 Pois não faço o bem que quero, mas justamente o mal que não quero fazer é que eu faço.
20 And if I do that evil thing that I will not (or And if I do that \+em evil\+em* thing that I do not desire to do), (then) I work not it, but the sin that dwelleth in me.
20 Mas, se faço o que não quero, já não sou eu quem faz isso, mas o pecado que vive em mim é que faz.
21 Therefore I find the law to me willing to do good thing [or Therefore I find a law to me willing \+sls (or desiring)\+sls* to do \+sls (the)\+sls* good thing], for evil thing lieth to me. (And so I find this law in me; I desire to do the good thing, but only the evil thing lieth before me.)
21 Assim eu sei que o que acontece comigo é isto: quando quero fazer o que é bom, só consigo fazer o que é mau.
22 For I delight (al)together to the law of God, after the inner man. (For I greatly delight in the Law of God, in my inner man.)
22 Dentro de mim eu sei que gosto da lei de Deus.
23 But I see another law in my members, fighting against the law of my soul, and making me captive in the law of sin, that is in my members.
23 Mas vejo uma lei diferente agindo naquilo que faço, uma lei que luta contra aquela que a minha mente aprova. Ela me torna prisioneiro da lei do pecado que age no meu corpo.
24 I am an unhappy [or a woeful] man; who shall deliver me from the body of this sin?
24 Como sou infeliz! Quem me livrará deste corpo que me leva para a morte?
25 The grace of God, by Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore I myself by the soul serve to the law of God; but by the flesh to the law of sin.
25 Que Deus seja louvado, pois ele fará isso por meio do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo! Portanto, esta é a minha situação: no meu pensamento eu sirvo à lei de Deus, mas na prática sirvo à lei do pecado.
