1 Also these be the Parables of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, translated.
1 Estes são outros provérbios de Salomão, compilados pelos servos de Ezequias, rei de Judá:
2 The glory of God is to cover a word; and the glory of kings is to seek out a word. (The glory of God be those things which he hath hidden; and the glory of kings \+em is\+em* to search them out.)
2 A glória de Deus é ocultar certas coisas; tentar descobri-las é a glória dos reis.
3 Heaven above, and the earth beneath, and the heart of kings is unsearchable. (The heavens be above, and the earth is beneath, and a king’s heart\+em is\+em* unsearchable.)
3 Assim como o céu é elevado e a terra é profunda, também o coração dos reis é insondável.
4 Do thou away rust from silver, and a full clean vessel shall go out.
4 Quando se retira a escória da prata, nesta se tem material para o ourives;
5 Do thou away unpiety from the cheer of the king (or Take thou away wicked persons from before the king), and his throne shall be made steadfast by rightfulness.
5 quando os ímpios são retirados da presença do rei, a justiça firma o seu trono.
6 Appear thou not glorious before the king, and stand thou not in the place of great men.

7 For it is better, that it be said to thee, Ascend thou hither (or Come thou up here), than that thou be made low before the prince.

8 Bring thou not forth soon those things in strife, which thine eyes saw; lest afterward thou mayest not amend, when thou hast made thy friend unhonest. 8 não leve precipitadamente ao tribunal, pois o que você fará, se o seu próximo o desacreditar?
9 Treat thy cause with thy friend, and show thou not (a) private (matter) to a strange man;
9 Procure resolver sua causa diretamente com o seu próximo, e não revele o segredo de outra pessoa,
10 lest peradventure he have joy of thy fall (or lest perhaps he have joy over thy fall), when he hath heard (of it), and cease not to do shame to thee.

11 (As) A golden pommel in beds of silver is he, that speaketh a word in his time. (Like a golden apple in beds of silver, \+em is\+em* a word spoken at its proper time.)
11 A palavra proferida no tempo certo é como frutas de ouro incrustadas numa escultura de prata.
12 (As) A golden earring, and a shining pearl is he, that reproveth a wise man, and an ear obeying. (Like a golden earring, and a shining pearl, \+em is\+em* a wise person who rebuketh someone with an obedient ear.)
12 Como brinco de ouro e enfeite de ouro fino é a repreensão dada com sabedoria a quem se dispõe a ouvir.
13 As the cold of snow in the day of harvest, so a faithful messenger to him that sent him, maketh his soul to have rest. (Like the cold of snow on the day of harvest, \+em is\+em* a faithful messenger to him who sent him, for he maketh his soul to have rest.)
13 Como o frescor da neve na época da colheita é o mensageiro de confiança para aqueles que o enviam; ele revigora o ânimo de seus senhores.
14 (As) A cloud and wind, and (then) rain not following, is a glorious man, and not [ful] filling promises. (Like a cloud and wind, but then rain not following, \+em is\+em* a honourable person who fulfilleth not his promises.)
14 Como nuvens e ventos sem chuva é aquele que se gaba de presentes que não deu.
15 A prince shall be made soft by patience; and a soft tongue shall break hardness.
15 Com muita paciência pode-se convencer a autoridade, e a língua branda quebra até ossos.
16 Thou hast found honey, eat thou (only) that that sufficeth to thee; lest peradventure thou be (over-)filled, and spew it out.
16 Se você encontrar mel, coma apenas o suficiente, para que não fique enjoado e vomite.
17 Withdraw thy foot from the house of thy neighbour; lest sometime he be filled (of thee), that is, annoyed \+sls (by thee)\+sls*, and hate thee.
17 Não faça visitas freqüentes à casa do seu vizinho para que ele não se canse de você e passe a odiá-lo.
18 (Like) A dart, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, (\+em is\+em*) a man that speaketh false witnessing against his neighbour.
18 Como um pedaço de pau, uma espada ou uma flecha aguda é o que dá falso testemunho contra o seu próximo.
19 (As) A rotten tooth, and a faint foot is he, that hopeth on an unfaithful man in the day of anguish, (Like a rotten tooth, and a faint foot, \+em is\+em* he, who hopeth on, \+em or trusteth in\+em*, an unfaithful person on his day of anguish.)
19 Como dente estragado ou pé deslocado é a confiança no hipócrita na hora da dificuldade.
20 and loseth his mantle in the day of cold. Vinegar in a vessel of salt is he, that singeth songs to the worst heart. As a moth harmeth a cloth, and a worm harmeth a tree, so the sorrow of a man harmeth the heart. (Like him who taketh away a mantle on a cold day, and like vinegar in a vessel of salt, \+em is\+em* he who singeth songs to an aggrieved heart. Like a moth \+em harmeth\+em* a cloak, and a worm \+em harmeth\+em* a tree, so a person’s sorrow \+em harmeth\+em* his heart.)
20 Como tirar a própria roupa num dia de frio, ou derramar vinagre numa ferida, é cantar com o coração entristecido.
21 If thine enemy hungereth, feed thou him; if he thirsteth, give thou him water to drink;
21 Se o seu inimigo tiver fome, dê-lhe de comer; se tiver sede, dê-lhe de beber.
22 for thou shalt gather together coals on his head; and the Lord shall yield to thee. (for thou shalt gather together coals upon his head; and the Lord shall reward thee.)
22 Fazendo isso, você amontoará brasas vivas sobre a cabeça dele, e o Senhor recompensará você.
23 The north wind scattereth abroad rains; and a sorrowful face destroyeth a tongue backbiting. (Like the north wind scattereth rains abroad; so an angry look \+em destroyeth\+em* a backbiting tongue.)
23 Como o vento norte traz chuva, assim a língua fingida traz o olhar irado.
24 It is better to sit in the corner of an house without [a] roof, than with a woman full of chiding, and in a common house. (It is better to sit in the corner of a house without a roof, than \+em to be\+em* with a woman full of arguments, \+em or of bickering\+em*, in a house together.)
24 Melhor é viver num canto sob o telhado do que repartir a casa com uma mulher briguenta.
25 Cold water to a thirsty man; and a good messenger from a far land. (Like cold water to a thirsty man, \+em is\+em* good news from a far land.)
25 Como água fresca para a garganta sedenta é a boa notícia que chega de uma terra distante.
26 (As) A well disturbed with foot, and a vein broken, (\+em is\+em*) a just man falling before a wicked man. (Like a well disturbed with a foot, and a broken fountain, \+em is\+em* the righteous falling before the wicked.)
26 Como fonte contaminada ou nascente poluída, assim é o justo que fraqueja diante do ímpio.
27 As it is not good to him that eateth much honey; so he that is a searcher of majesty, shall be put down from glory. (Like it is not good for him who eateth too much honey; so he who seeketh \+em his own\+em* glory, shall be brought down from his place of honour.)
27 Comer mel demais não é bom, nem é honroso buscar a própria honra.
28 As a city open, and without compass of walls; so is a man that may not refrain his spirit in speaking. (Like a city that is open, and without any walls surrounding it, \+em is\+em* a man who cannot refrain his own spirit from speaking.)
28 Como a cidade com seus muros derrubados, assim é quem não sabe dominar-se.
