GOD'S WORD (ENGGW) vs NAA
1 These are the nations the Lord left behind to test all the Israelites who had not experienced any war in Canaan.
1 São estas as nações que o Senhor deixou ficar para, por meio delas, pôr Israel à prova, isto é, para provar todos os israelitas que não sabiam de todas as guerras de Canaã.
2 The Lord left them to teach Israel’s descendants about war, at least those who had known nothing about it in the past.
2 Ele fez isso tão somente para que as gerações dos filhos de Israel conhecessem a guerra, para lhes ensinar a guerra, pelo menos às gerações que, anteriormente, não sabiam disso.
3 He left the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon from Mount Baal Hermon to the border of Hamath.
3 Os que ficaram foram: cinco governantes dos filisteus, todos os cananeus, sidônios e heveus que habitavam as montanhas do Líbano, desde o monte de Baal-Hermom até a entrada de Hamate.
4 These nations were left to test the Israelites, to find out if they would obey the commands the Lord had given their ancestors through Moses.
4 Estes ficaram para, por meio deles, o Senhor pôr Israel à prova, para saber se dariam ouvidos aos mandamentos que havia ordenado a seus pais por meio de Moisés.
5 So the people of Israel lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
5 Assim, os filhos de Israel moravam no meio dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos amorreus, dos ferezeus, dos heveus e dos jebuseus.
6 The Israelites allowed their sons and daughters to marry these people. Israel also served their gods.
6 Tomaram de suas filhas para si por mulheres e deram as suas próprias aos filhos deles; e rendiam culto a seus deuses.
7 The people of Israel did what the Lord considered evil. They forgot the Lord their God and served other gods and goddesses—the Baals and the Asherahs.
7 Os filhos de Israel fizeram o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor e se esqueceram do Senhor , seu Deus; e renderam culto aos baalins e ao poste da deusa Aserá.
8 The Lord became angry with the people of Israel. He used King Cushan Rishathaim of Aram Naharaim to defeat them. So Israel served Cushan Rishathaim for eight years.
8 Então a ira do Senhor se acendeu contra Israel, e ele os entregou nas mãos de Cusã-Risataim, rei da Mesopotâmia; e os filhos de Israel serviram Cusã-Risataim durante oito anos.
9 Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help. The Lord sent a savior to rescue them. It was Othniel, son of Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz.
9 Os filhos de Israel clamaram ao Senhor , e o Senhor lhes suscitou um libertador, que os libertou: Otniel, filho de Quenaz, que era irmão de Calebe e mais novo do que ele.
10 When the Lord’s Spirit came over him, he became the judge of Israel. He went out to war. The Lord handed King Cushan Rishathaim of Aram Naharaim over to him, and Othniel overpowered him.
10 O Espírito do Senhor veio sobre ele, e ele se tornou juiz de Israel. Foi para a guerra, e o Senhor lhe entregou nas mãos Cusã-Risataim, rei da Mesopotâmia, contra o qual ele prevaleceu.
11 So there was finally peace in the land for 40 years. Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, died.
11 Então a terra ficou em paz durante quarenta anos. Otniel, filho de Quenaz, morreu.
12 Once again, the people of Israel did what the Lord considered evil. So the Lord made King Eglon of Moab stronger than Israel, because Israel did what the Lord considered evil.
12 Os filhos de Israel tornaram a fazer o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor . Por isso, o Senhor deu poder a Eglom, rei dos moabitas, contra Israel, porque fizeram o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor .
13 Eglon got the Ammonites and the Amalekites to help him, and they defeated the Israelites and occupied the City of Palms.
13 Eglom se juntou com os filhos de Amom e os amalequitas, foi e derrotou Israel. E eles se apoderaram da cidade das palmeiras.
14 The Israelites served King Eglon of Moab for 18 years.
14 E os filhos de Israel serviram Eglom, rei dos moabitas, durante dezoito anos.
15 Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help. The Lord sent a savior to rescue them. It was Ehud, a left-handed man from the tribe of Benjamin. (Ehud was the son of Gera.)
15 Então os filhos de Israel clamaram ao Senhor , e o Senhor lhes suscitou um libertador: Eúde, homem canhoto, filho de Gera, benjamita. Por meio dele, os filhos de Israel enviaram tributo a Eglom, rei dos moabitas.
16 Ehud made a two-edged dagger for himself. He fastened it to his right side under his clothes.
16 Eúde fez para si um punhal de dois gumes, do comprimento de quase meio metro; e cingiu-o debaixo da sua roupa, do lado direito.
17 Then he brought the tax payment to King Eglon. (Eglon was a very fat man.)
17 Então ele levou o tributo a Eglom, rei dos moabitas. Eglom era um homem muito gordo.
18 When Ehud had finished delivering the payment, he sent back the men who had carried it.
18 Depois de entregar o tributo, Eúde saiu com os carregadores do tributo.
19 However, Ehud turned around at the stone idols near Gilgal ⌞and returned to Eglon⌟. He said, “Your Majesty, I have a secret message for you.”
19 Ele, porém, voltou do ponto em que estavam as imagens de escultura ao pé de Gilgal e disse ao rei: — Tenho uma palavra secreta para o senhor, ó rei. O rei disse: — Cale-se. Então todos os que estavam com o rei saíram de sua presença.
20 Ehud came up to him as he sat alone in his room on the roof. He said to the king, “I have a message from God for you.” As the king rose from his throne,
20 Eúde entrou numa sala de verão, que o rei tinha só para si, e onde ele estava sentado. Eúde disse: — Tenho uma palavra de Deus para o senhor. E Eglom se levantou da cadeira.
21 Ehud reached with his left hand, took the dagger from his right side, and plunged it into Eglon’s belly.
21 Então Eúde estendeu a mão esquerda, puxou o seu punhal do lado direito e o cravou na barriga do rei,
22 Even the handle went in after the blade. Eglon’s fat covered the blade because Ehud didn’t pull the dagger out. The blade stuck out in back.
22 de tal maneira que entrou também o cabo com a lâmina; e, porque não tirou o punhal da barriga, a gordura se fechou sobre ele. Eúde saiu por uma portinhola,
23 Ehud left the room. (He had closed and locked the doors of the room before he left.)
23 passou para a antessala, depois de fechar e trancar as portas atrás de si.
24 After Ehud went out, Eglon’s advisers came in. They were surprised that the doors were locked. “He must be using the toilet,” they said.
24 Quando ele tinha saído, vieram os servos do rei e viram que as portas da sala de verão estavam trancadas. E disseram: — Sem dúvida ele está fazendo as necessidades na sala de verão.
25 They waited and waited, but Eglon didn’t open the doors. So they took the key and opened the door. They were shocked to see their ruler lying on the floor, dead.
25 Esperaram até cansar; e, como o rei não abria a porta da sala, pegaram a chave e a abriram; e eis que o seu senhor estava morto, caído no chão.
26 While they had been waiting, Ehud escaped. He went past the stone idols and escaped to Seirah.
26 Eúde escapou enquanto eles se demoravam e, tendo passado pelas imagens de escultura, foi para Seirá.
27 When he arrived there, he blew a ram’s horn in the mountains of Ephraim ⌞to summon the troops⌟. So the troops of Israel came down from the mountains with him, and he led them.
27 Tendo chegado, tocou a trombeta nas montanhas de Efraim; e os filhos de Israel desceram com ele das montanhas, indo ele à frente.
28 He told them, “Follow me! The Lord will hand your enemy Moab over to you.”
28 E lhes disse: — Sigam-me, porque o Eles seguiram Eúde e tomaram os vaus do Jordão contra os moabitas, e a nenhum deles deixaram passar.
29 At that time they killed about ten thousand of Moab’s best fighting men. Not one of them escaped.
29 Naquele tempo, mataram uns dez mil homens moabitas, todos robustos e valentes; e não escapou nem sequer um.
30 The power of Moab was crushed by Israel that day. So there was finally peace in the land for 80 years.
30 Assim, naquele dia, Moabe foi subjugado por Israel. E a terra ficou em paz durante oitenta anos.
31 After Ehud came Shamgar, son of Anath. He killed 600 Philistines with a sharp stick used for herding oxen. So he, too, rescued Israel.
31 Depois de Eúde veio Sangar, filho de Anate, que matou seiscentos filisteus com uma aguilhada de bois; e também ele libertou Israel.
