1 The Lord answered Moses, “I have made you a god to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron is your prophet.
1 Então o S enhor disse a Moisés: “Preste atenção ao que vou dizer. Eu o farei parecer Deus para o faraó, e Arão, seu irmão, será seu profeta.
2 Tell your brother Aaron everything I command you, and he must tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave the country.
2 Diga a Arão tudo que eu lhe ordenar, e Arão mandará o faraó deixar o povo de Israel sair de sua terra.
3 But I will make Pharaoh stubborn. Even though I will do many miraculous signs and amazing things in Egypt,
3 Contudo, endurecerei o coração do faraó e depois multiplicarei meus sinais e maravilhas na terra do Egito.
4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will use my power to punish Egypt severely, and I will bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt in organized family groups.
4 Mesmo assim, o faraó se recusará a ouvi-lo, de modo que farei minha mão pesar sobre o Egito. Então resgatarei meu exército — meu povo, os israelitas — da terra do Egito com grandes atos de julgamento.
5 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I use my power against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of there.”
5 Quando eu levantar minha mão e tirar os israelitas do meio deles, os egípcios saberão que eu sou o S enhor ”.
6 Moses and Aaron did as the Lord had commanded them.
6 Moisés e Arão fizeram conforme o S enhor lhes ordenou.
7 Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 when they talked to Pharaoh.
7 Quando falaram com o faraó, Moisés tinha 80 anos, e Arão, 83.
8 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,
8 O S enhor disse a Moisés e a Arão:
9 “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Give me a sign to prove that God has sent you,’ tell Aaron, ‘Take your shepherd’s staff and throw it down in front of Pharaoh,’ and it will become a large snake.”
9 “O faraó exigirá: ‘Mostre-me um milagre’. Quando ele o fizer, diga a Arão: ‘Tome sua vara e jogue-a no chão, na frente do faraó, e ela se transformará numa serpente’”.
10 Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the Lord had commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a large snake.
10 Então Moisés e Arão foram ver o faraó e fizeram conforme o S enhor havia ordenado. Arão jogou a vara no chão, diante do faraó e de seus oficiais, e ela se transformou numa serpente.
11 Then Pharaoh sent for his wise men and sorcerers. These Egyptian magicians did the same thing using their magic spells.
11 O faraó mandou chamar seus sábios e feiticeiros e, por meio de suas artes mágicas, esses magos egípcios fizeram a mesma coisa:
12 Each of them threw his staff down, and they all became large snakes. But Aaron’s staff swallowed theirs.
12 jogaram suas varas no chão, e elas também se transformaram em serpentes. Mas a vara de Arão engoliu as varas dos magos.
13 Yet, Pharaoh continued to be stubborn and would not listen to them, as the Lord had predicted.
13 O coração do faraó, porém, permaneceu endurecido. Ele continuou se recusando a ouvir, exatamente como o S enhor tinha dito.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh is being stubborn. He refuses to let my people go.
14 O S enhor disse a Moisés: “O coração do faraó é duro, e ele continua se recusando a deixar o povo sair.
15 In the morning meet Pharaoh when he’s on his way to the Nile. Wait for him on the bank of the river. Take along the staff that turned into a snake.
15 Portanto, vá ao faraó pela manhã, quando ele estiver descendo até o rio. Pare à margem do Nilo e encontre-se com ele ali. Não se esqueça de levar a vara que se transformou em serpente.
16 Say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews sent me to tell you, “Let my people go to worship me in the desert.” So far you have not listened.
16 Então diga-lhe: ‘O S enhor , o Deus dos hebreus, me enviou para lhe falar: ‘Deixe meu povo sair para me adorar no deserto’. Até agora, você se recusou a ouvi-lo,
17 Here is what the Lord says: This is the way you will recognize that I am the Lord: With this staff in my hand, I’m going to strike the Nile, and the water will turn into blood.
17 por isso, assim diz o S enhor : ‘Eu lhe mostrarei que sou o S enhor ’. Veja! Com esta vara que tenho na mão, baterei nas águas do Nilo, e elas se transformarão em sangue.
18 The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink. The Egyptians will not be able to drink any water from the Nile.’ ”
18 Os peixes do rio morrerão, e o rio ficará malcheiroso. Os egípcios não poderão beber de sua água’”.
19 The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—its rivers, canals, ponds, and all its reservoirs—so that they turn into blood. There will be blood everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden and stone containers.’ ”
19 O S enhor disse a Moisés: “Diga a Arão: ‘Tome sua vara e estenda a mão sobre as águas do Egito, sobre todos os seus rios, canais, açudes e reservatórios. Toda a água se transformará em sangue, até mesmo a água armazenada em vasilhas de madeira e pedra’”.
20 Moses and Aaron did as the Lord had commanded. In front of Pharaoh and his officials, Aaron raised his staff and struck the Nile. All the water in the river turned into blood.
20 Moisés e Arão fizeram conforme o S enhor ordenou. Diante dos olhos do faraó e de todos os seus oficiais, Arão levantou a vara e bateu nas águas do Nilo, e o rio inteiro se transformou em sangue.
21 The fish in the Nile died, and it smelled so bad that the Egyptians couldn’t drink any water from the river. There was blood everywhere in Egypt.
21 Os peixes do rio morreram, e a água ficou tão malcheirosa que os egípcios não podiam bebê-la. Havia sangue em toda a terra do Egito.
22 But the Egyptian magicians did the same thing using their magic spells. So Pharaoh continued to be stubborn and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, as the Lord had predicted.
22 Mais uma vez, porém, os magos do Egito usaram sua mágica e também transformaram água em sangue, e o coração do faraó continuou endurecido. Ele se recusou a ouvir Moisés e Arão, como o S enhor tinha dito.
23 Pharaoh turned and went back to his palace. He dismissed the entire matter from his mind.
23 O faraó voltou para seu palácio e não pensou mais no assunto.
24 All the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink because they couldn’t drink any of the water from the river.
24 Todos os egípcios cavaram às margens do rio para encontrar água potável, pois não podiam beber da água do Nilo.
25 Seven days passed after the Lord struck the Nile.
25 Sete dias se passaram desde o momento em que o S enhor feriu o Nilo.
