1 The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I sincerely lovein truth:
1 O ancião ao amado Gaio, a quem amo em verdade.
2 Beloved, I pray that in all ways you may prosper and be in good health, just as I know that your soul prospers.
2 Amado, eu desejo, acima de todas as coisas, que tu possas prosperar e em boa saúde, assim como sua alma prospera.
3 For I rejoiced greatly when some brothers came and testified about the truth that is in you, as indeed you do walk in the truth.
3 Porque me alegrei grandemente quando os irmãos vieram, e testificaram da verdade que há em ti, e como tu andas na verdade.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
4 Não tenho maior alegria do que a de ouvir que os meus filhos andam na verdade.
5 Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brothers and sisters, and especially when they are strangers.
5 Amado, procedes fielmente em tudo o que fazes para com os irmãos, e para com os estranhos;
6 They have testified to your sincere love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God,
6 estes foram testemunhas da tua caridade diante da igreja, os quais, se conduzires em sua jornada de maneira piedosa, farás bem.
7 for they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the heathen.
7 Porque pelo seu Nome seguiram adiante, nada tomando dos gentios.
8 Therefore we ought to support such people, that we may be fellow workers with the truth.
8 Portanto, devemos receber aos tais, para que sejamos cooperadores da verdade.
9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.
9 Escrevi à igreja; mas Diótrefes, que ama ter preeminência entre eles, não nos recebe.
10 For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not satisfied with this, he himself doesn’t receive the brothers and sisters, either, and he forbids those who desire to do so and puts them out of the church.
10 Por isso, se eu for, lembrar-me-ei dos feitos que ele realiza, proferindo contra nós palavras maliciosas; e, não contente com isto, não recebe os irmãos, e impede os que querem recebê-los, e os expulsa da igreja.
11 Beloved, don’t imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good belongs to God; the one who does evil hasn’t seen God.
11 Amado, não sigas o que é mal, mas o que é bom. Aquele que faz o bem é de Deus; mas aquele que faz o mal não viu a Deus.
12 Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true.
12 Demétrio, porém, tem bom testemunho da parte de todos os homens, e da parte da própria verdade, sim, e também nós testemunhamos; e vós sabeis que o nosso testemunho é verdadeiro.
13 I had many things to write to you, but I would rather not write them to you with pen and ink;
13 Eu tinha muitas coisas para escrever, mas não irei escrever-te com tinta e pena.
14 but I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face to face.
14 Mas acredito que ver-te-ei brevemente, e falaremos face a face. Paz seja contigo. Nossos amigos te saúdam. Saúda os amigos por nome.
15 Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
