1 Now a certain man, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha, was sick.
1 Ora, havia um certo homem enfermo, chamado Lázaro, de Betânia, da aldeia de Maria e de sua irmã Marta.
2 (It was the Mary who [later]anointed the Lord with myrrh and wiped His feet with her hair whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
2 (Era aquela Maria que ungiu o Senhor com unguento, e secou os seus pés com os seus cabelos, cujo irmão, Lázaro, estava enfermo).
3 So the sisters sent to Him saying, “Lord, please, the one you love is sick!”
3 Portanto, suas irmãs enviaram até ele dizendo: Senhor, eis que está enfermo aquele que tu amas.
4 Upon hearing it Jesus said, “This sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
4 Quando Jesus ouviu isso, ele disse: Esta enfermidade não é para morte, mas para glória de Deus, para que o Filho de Deus seja glorificado por ela.
5 (Now Jesus lovedMartha and her sister and Lazarus.)
5 Ora, Jesus amava a Marta, e a sua irmã, e a Lázaro.
6 So, when He heard that he was sick He stayed where He was two more days!
6 Ouvindo, pois, que ele estava enfermo, ficou ainda dois dias no lugar onde ele estava.
7 Then after this He says to the disciples, “Let us go into Judea again.”
7 Depois disso, então, ele diz aos seus discípulos: Vamos outra vez para a Judeia.
8 The disciples say to Him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now trying to stone you, and you are going back there?”
8 Seus discípulos lhe disseram: Mestre, recentemente os judeus procuravam apedrejar-te, e tu vais para lá novamente?
9 Jesus answered: “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks during the day he doesn't stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
9 Jesus respondeu: Não há doze horas no dia? Se algum homem andar de dia, ele não tropeça, porque ele vê a luz deste mundo.
10 But if anyone walks in the night he does stumble, because the light is not in him.”
10 Mas se um homem andar de noite, ele tropeça, porque nele não há luz.
11 Having said these things He says to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going in order to awaken him.”
11 Essas coisas ele falou, e depois disso ele lhes disse: Nosso amigo Lázaro dorme, mas eu vou, para que eu possa despertá-lo do sono.
12 His disciples said to Him, “Lord, if he is sleeping he will get well.”
12 Disseram-lhe, então, os seus discípulos: Senhor, se dorme, ele ficará bom.
13 But Jesus had spoken of his death, while they thought He was talking about natural sleep.
13 Todavia Jesus havia falado de sua morte, mas eles pensavam que falava do repouso do sono.
14 So then Jesus said to them plainly: “Lazarus died.
14 Então, Jesus disse-lhes claramente: Lázaro está morto.
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
15 E estou contente por causa de vós, de que eu não estivesse ali, para que creiais; no entanto, vamos até ele.
16 Then Thomas (called Twin) said to his fellow disciples, “Let's us go too, so that we may die with Him.”
16 Então disse Tomé, que é chamado Dídimo, aos seus condiscípulos: Vamos nós também, para que possamos morrer com ele.
17 So when Jesus had come, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.
17 Quando Jesus chegou, encontrou Lázaro já há quatro dias no sepulcro.
18 (Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away,
18 Ora, Betânia estava perto de Jerusalém, cerca de quinze estádios.
19 and many of the Jews had joined the women aroundMartha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.)
19 E muitos dos judeus tinham ido consolar a Marta e a Maria, acerca de seu irmão.
20 Then Martha, when she heard that Jesus was coming,went to meet Him; but Mary remained sitting at home.
20 Ouvindo, então, Marta que Jesus vinha, foi ao seu encontro. Mas Maria ficou assentada em casa.
21 Then Martha said to Jesus: “Lord, if You had been here my brother would not have died.
21 Então, disse Marta a Jesus: Senhor, se tu estivesses aqui, meu irmão não teria morrido.
22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”
22 Mas eu sei, que agora mesmo, tudo quanto pedires a Deus, Deus te concederá.
23 Jesus says to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
23 Disse-lhe Jesus: Teu irmão há de ressuscitar.
24 Martha says to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
24 Disse-lhe Marta: Eu sei que há de ressuscitar na ressurreição do último dia.
25 Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes into me, though he may die, will live;
25 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu sou a ressurreição, e a vida; quem crê em mim, ainda que esteja morto, ele viverá;
26 and everyone who both lives and believes into me will never ever die.Do you believe this?”
26 e todo aquele que vive e crê em mim nunca morrerá. Crês tu isto?
27 She says to Him, “Yes, Lord, I have come to believe that You are the Messiah, the Son of God, the One coming into the world.”
27 Disse-lhe ela: Sim, Senhor; eu creio que tu és o Cristo, o Filho de Deus, que havia de vir ao mundo.
28 Having said these things she went and called her sister Mary, saying privately, “The Teacher is here and is calling you!”
28 E, tendo ela dito isso, seguiu o seu caminho, e chamou secretamente a Maria, sua irmã, dizendo: O Mestre está aqui e te chama.
29 Upon hearing it she gets up quickly and goes to Him.
29 Assim que ela ouviu isso, levantou-se depressa, e foi até ele.
30 (Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was in the place where Martha met Him.
30 Ora, Jesus ainda não tinha chegado à aldeia, mas estava no lugar onde Marta o encontrara.
31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, when they saw Mary get up quickly and go out, they followed her saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”)
31 Os judeus, pois, que estavam com ela na casa e a consolavam, vendo que Maria se levantara e saíra apressadamente, seguiram-na, dizendo: Ela vai ao sepulcro para chorar ali.
32 Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, upon seeing Him she fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here my brother would not have died!”
32 Tendo, pois, Maria chegado onde Jesus estava e vendo-o, ela lançou-se aos seus pés, dizendo-lhe: Senhor, se tu estivesses aqui, meu irmão não teria morrido.
33 So when Jesus saw her crying, and the Jews who had come with her crying, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.
33 Quando Jesus, pois, a viu chorar, e choravam também os judeus que vinham com ela, comoveu-se em espírito e conturbou-se,
34 And He said, “Where have you put him?” They say to Him, “Lord, come and see.”
34 e disse: Onde o pusestes? Eles disseram-lhe: Senhor, vem e vê.
35 Jesus wept.
35 Jesus chorou.
36 So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”
36 Disseram, então, os judeus: Vede como ele o amava!
37 But some of them said, “Couldn't this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have also kept this one from dying?”
37 E alguns deles disseram: Não podia este homem, que abriu os olhos ao cego, fazer também com que este homem não morresse?
38 Then, groaning within Himself again, Jesus arrived at the tomb. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.
38 Jesus, pois, novamente comovido em si mesmo, foi ao sepulcro. Era uma caverna e tinha uma pedra posta sobre ela.
39 Jesus says, “Remove the stone!” Martha, the sister of the deceased, says to Him, “Lord, he already stinks; it's been four days!”
39 Disse Jesus: Tirai a pedra. Marta, irmã daquele que estava morto, disse-lhe: Senhor, a essa altura ele cheira mal, porque ele está morto há quatro dias.
40 Jesus says to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?”
40 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu não te disse que, se tu creres, verás a glória de Deus?
41 Then they took away the stone from where the deceased was lying. Jesus raised His eyes and said: “Father, I thank You that You heard me.
41 Então, eles tiraram a pedra do lugar onde jazia o morto. E Jesus, levantando seus olhos, disse: Pai, eu te agradeço, por me haveres ouvido.
42 I know that You always hear me, but I spoke for the sake of the crowd standing around, so that they may believe that You sent me.”
42 Eu sei que sempre me ouves, mas por causa da multidão que está ao redor eu disse isso, para que possam crer que tu me enviaste.
43 Upon saying these things He shouted with a loud voice,“Lazarus, come out!”
43 E, tendo dito isso, clamou em alta voz: Lázaro, vem para fora.
44 And out the deceased came! Bound hand and foot with bandages,and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus says to them, “Loose him and let him go.”
44 E saiu o que estivera morto, amarrado nos pés e nas mãos com faixas; e a sua face envolta em um lenço. Disse-lhes Jesus: Desatai-o, e deixai-o ir.
45 So many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed into Him.
45 Então, muitos dentre os judeus que tinham vindo a Maria, e que haviam visto as coisas que Jesus fizera, creram nele.
46 But some of them went off to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
46 Mas alguns deles foram pelo seu caminho até os fariseus, e lhes contaram as coisas que Jesus havia feito.
47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a counciland said: “What can we do? Because this man performs many miraculous signs;
47 Então, reuniram-se os principais sacerdotes e os fariseus em conselho, dizendo: O que faremos? Pois este homem faz muitos milagres.
48 if we let him go on like this everybody will believe into him; and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation!”
48 Se o deixarmos assim sozinho, todos os homens crerão nele; e virão os romanos e tirar-nos-ão o nosso lugar e a nação.
49 But one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them: “You know nothing at all!
49 E um deles, chamado Caifás, que era sumo sacerdote naquele ano, lhes disse: Vós não entendeis nada,
50 Nor do you consider that it is advantageous for usthat one man should die on behalf of the people, rather than the whole nation perish!”
50 nem considerais que nos convém que um homem morra pelo povo e que não pereça toda a nação.
51 (Now he did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was about to die on behalf of the nation;
51 Ora, isso não disse ele por si mesmo; mas, sendo o sumo sacerdote naquele ano, profetizou que Jesus havia de morrer pela nação;
52 and not only on behalf of the nation, but also to gather into one all the scattered children of God.)
52 e não somente por aquela nação, mas também para congregar num só corpo os filhos de Deus que estavam dispersos.
53 So from that day on they really plotted to kill Him.
53 Desde aquele dia, pois, eles tomavam conselho para o matarem.
54 Therefore Jesus no longer moved about openly among the Jews, but went away from there into the country near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim; and He stayed there with His disciples.
54 Jesus, portanto, já não andava publicamente entre os judeus, mas retirou-se dali para a terra junto do deserto, para uma cidade chamada Efraim, e ali continuava com os seus discípulos.
55 Now the Jewish Passover was near, and many from the country went up to Jerusalem before the Passover in order to purify themselves.
55 E estava próxima a Páscoa dos judeus; e dessa região subiram muitos a Jerusalém, antes da Páscoa, para se purificarem.
56 So they were looking for Jesus,and as they stood in the temple they were saying to each other, “What do you think—that he won't come to the feast at all?”
56 Então eles buscavam por Jesus, e falavam entre si, estando no templo: Que vos parece? Não virá ele à festa?
57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had together issued an edict that if anyone knew where He was he should report it, so they could arrest Him.
57 Ora, os principais sacerdotes e os fariseus tinham dado ordem para que, se algum homem soubesse onde ele estava, ele deveria mostrar, para que o prendessem.
