Obadias 1

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

The vision|strong="H2377" of Obadiah|strong="H5662". Thus saith|strong="H0559" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w* concerning Edom|strong="H0123"; We have heard|strong="H8085" a rumour|strong="H8052" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and an ambassador|strong="H6735" is sent|strong="H7971" among the heathen|strong="H1471", Arise|strong="H6965" ye, and let us rise up|strong="H6965" against her in battle|strong="H4421".

Behold, I have made|strong="H5414" thee small|strong="H6996" among the heathen|strong="H1471": thou art greatly|strong="H3966" despised|strong="H0959".

The pride|strong="H2087" of thine heart|strong="H3820" hath deceived|strong="H5377" thee, thou that dwellest|strong="H7931" in the clefts|strong="H2288" of the rock|strong="H5553", whose habitation|strong="H3427" is high|strong="H4791"; that saith|strong="H0559" in his heart|strong="H3820", Who shall bring me down|strong="H3381" to the ground|strong="H0776"?

Though thou exalt|strong="H1361" thyself as the eagle|strong="H5404", and though thou set|strong="H7760" thy nest|strong="H7064" among the stars|strong="H3556", thence will I bring thee down|strong="H3381", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

If thieves|strong="H1590" came|strong="H0935" to thee, if robbers|strong="H7703" by night|strong="H3915", (how art thou cut off|strong="H1820"!) would they not have stolen|strong="H1589" till they had enough|strong="H1767"? if the grapegatherers|strong="H1219" came|strong="H0935" to thee, would they not leave|strong="H7604" some grapes|strong="H5955"?

How are the things of Esau|strong="H6215" searched out|strong="H2664"! how are his hidden|strong="H4710" things sought up|strong="H1158"!

All the men|strong="H0582" of thy confederacy|strong="H1285" have brought|strong="H7971" thee even to the border|strong="H1366": the men|strong="H0582" that were at peace|strong="H7965" with thee have deceived|strong="H5377" thee, and prevailed|strong="H3201" against thee; they that eat thy bread|strong="H3899" have laid|strong="H7760" a wound|strong="H4204" under thee: there is none understanding|strong="H8394" in him.

Shall I not in that day|strong="H3117", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, even destroy|strong="H0006" the wise|strong="H2450" men out of Edom|strong="H0123", and understanding|strong="H8394" out of the mount|strong="H2022" of Esau|strong="H6215"?

And thy mighty|strong="H1368" men, O Teman|strong="H8487", shall be dismayed|strong="H2865", to the end that every one|strong="H0376" of the mount|strong="H2022" of Esau|strong="H6215" may be cut off|strong="H3772" by slaughter|strong="H6993".

For thy violence|strong="H2555" against thy brother|strong="H0251" Jacob|strong="H3290" shame|strong="H0955" shall cover|strong="H3680" thee, and thou shalt be cut off|strong="H3772" for ever|strong="H5769".

In the day|strong="H3117" that thou stoodest|strong="H5975" on the other side, in the day|strong="H3117" that the strangers|strong="H2114" carried away captive|strong="H7617" his forces|strong="H2428", and foreigners|strong="H5237" entered|strong="H0935" into his gates|strong="H8179", and cast|strong="H3032" lots|strong="H1486" upon Jerusalem|strong="H3389", even thou wast as one|strong="H0259" of them.

But thou shouldest not have looked|strong="H7200" on the day|strong="H3117" of thy brother|strong="H0251" in the day|strong="H3117" that he became a stranger|strong="H5235"; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced|strong="H8055" over the children|strong="H1121" of Judah|strong="H3063" in the day|strong="H3117" of their destruction|strong="H0006"; neither shouldest thou have spoken|strong="H6310" proudly|strong="H1431" in the day|strong="H3117" of distress|strong="H6869".

Thou shouldest not have entered|strong="H0935" into the gate|strong="H8179" of my people|strong="H5971" in the day|strong="H3117" of their calamity|strong="H0343"; yea, thou shouldest not have looked|strong="H7200" on their affliction|strong="H7451" in the day|strong="H3117" of their calamity|strong="H0343", nor have laid|strong="H7971" hands on their substance|strong="H2428" in the day|strong="H3117" of their calamity|strong="H0343";

Neither shouldest thou have stood|strong="H5975" in the crossway|strong="H6563", to cut off|strong="H3772" those of his that did escape|strong="H6412"; neither shouldest thou have delivered up|strong="H5462" those of his that did remain|strong="H8300" in the day|strong="H3117" of distress|strong="H6869".

For the day|strong="H3117" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is near|strong="H7138" upon all the heathen|strong="H1471": as thou hast done|strong="H6213", it shall be done|strong="H6213" unto thee: thy reward|strong="H1576" shall return|strong="H7725" upon thine own head|strong="H7218".

For as ye have drunk|strong="H8354" upon my holy|strong="H6944" mountain|strong="H2022", so shall all the heathen|strong="H1471" drink|strong="H8354" continually|strong="H8548", yea, they shall drink|strong="H8354", and they shall swallow down|strong="H3886", and they shall be as though they had not|strong="H3808" been.

But upon mount|strong="H2022" Zion|strong="H6726" shall be deliverance|strong="H6413", and there shall be holiness|strong="H6944"; and the house|strong="H1004" of Jacob|strong="H3290" shall possess|strong="H3423" their possessions|strong="H4180".

And the house|strong="H1004" of Jacob|strong="H3290" shall be a fire|strong="H0784", and the house|strong="H1004" of Joseph|strong="H3130" a flame|strong="H3852", and the house|strong="H1004" of Esau|strong="H6215" for stubble|strong="H7179", and they shall kindle|strong="H1814" in them, and devour|strong="H0398" them; and there shall not be any remaining|strong="H8300" of the house|strong="H1004" of Esau|strong="H6215"; for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath spoken|strong="H1696" it.

And they of the south|strong="H5045" shall possess|strong="H3423" the mount|strong="H2022" of Esau|strong="H6215"; and they of the plain|strong="H8219" the Philistines|strong="H6430": and they shall possess|strong="H3423" the fields|strong="H7704" of Ephraim|strong="H0669", and the fields|strong="H7704" of Samaria|strong="H8111": and Benjamin|strong="H1144" shall possess Gilead|strong="H1568".

And the captivity|strong="H1546" of this host|strong="H2426" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" shall possess that of the Canaanites|strong="H3669", even unto Zarephath|strong="H6886"; and the captivity|strong="H1546" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", which is in Sepharad|strong="H5614", shall possess|strong="H3423" the cities|strong="H5892" of the south|strong="H5045".

And saviours|strong="H3467" shall come up|strong="H5927" on mount|strong="H2022" Zion|strong="H6726" to judge|strong="H8199" the mount|strong="H2022" of Esau|strong="H6215"; and the kingdom|strong="H4410" shall be the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w*.
