2 Annas|strong="G0452" and|strong="G2532" Caiaphas|strong="G2533" being|strong="G1909" the high priests|strong="G0749", the word|strong="G4487" of God|strong="G2316" came|strong="G1096" unto|strong="G1909" John|strong="G2491" the son|strong="G5207" of Zacharias|strong="G2197" in|strong="G1722" the wilderness|strong="G2048".
3 And|strong="G2532" he came|strong="G2064" into|strong="G1519" all|strong="G3956" the country about|strong="G4066" Jordan|strong="G2446", preaching|strong="G2784" the baptism|strong="G0908" of repentance|strong="G3341" for|strong="G1519" the remission|strong="G0859" of sins|strong="G0266";
4 As|strong="G5613" it is written|strong="G1125" in|strong="G1722" the book|strong="G0976" of the words|strong="G3056" of Esaias|strong="G2268" the prophet|strong="G4396", saying|strong="G3004", The voice|strong="G5456" of one crying|strong="G0994" in|strong="G1722" the wilderness|strong="G2048", Prepare ye|strong="G2090" the way|strong="G3598" of the Lord|strong="G2962", make|strong="G4160" his|strong="G0846" paths|strong="G5147" straight|strong="G2117".
5 Every|strong="G3956" valley|strong="G5327" shall be filled|strong="G4137", and|strong="G2532" every|strong="G3956" mountain|strong="G3735" and|strong="G2532" hill|strong="G1015" shall be brought low|strong="G5013"; and|strong="G2532" the crooked|strong="G4646" shall be made|strong="G2071" straight|strong="G2117", and|strong="G2532" the rough|strong="G5138" ways|strong="G3598" shall be made|strong="G1519" smooth|strong="G3006";
6 And|strong="G2532" all|strong="G3956" flesh|strong="G4561" shall see|strong="G3700" the salvation|strong="G4992" of God|strong="G2316".
7 Then|strong="G3767" said he|strong="G3004" to the multitude|strong="G3793" that came forth|strong="G1607" to be baptized|strong="G0907" of|strong="G5259" him|strong="G0846", O generation|strong="G1081" of vipers|strong="G2191", who|strong="G5101" hath warned|strong="G5263" you|strong="G5213" to flee|strong="G5343" from|strong="G0575" the wrath|strong="G3709" to come|strong="G3195"?
8 Bring forth|strong="G4160" therefore|strong="G3767" fruits|strong="G2590" worthy|strong="G0514" of repentance|strong="G3341", and|strong="G2532" begin|strong="G0756" not|strong="G3361" to say|strong="G3004" within|strong="G1722" yourselves|strong="G1438", We have|strong="G2192" Abraham|strong="G0011" to|strong="G3962" our father|strong="G3962": for|strong="G1063" I say|strong="G3004" unto you|strong="G5213", That|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" is able|strong="G1410" of|strong="G1537" these|strong="G5130" stones|strong="G3037" to raise up|strong="G1453" children|strong="G5043" unto Abraham|strong="G0011".
9 And|strong="G1161" now|strong="G2235" also|strong="G2532" the axe|strong="G0513" is laid|strong="G2749" unto|strong="G4314" the root|strong="G4491" of the trees|strong="G1186": every|strong="G3956" tree|strong="G1186" therefore|strong="G3767" which bringeth|strong="G4160" not|strong="G3361" forth|strong="G4160" good|strong="G2570" fruit|strong="G2590" is hewn down|strong="G1581", and|strong="G2532" cast|strong="G0906" into|strong="G1519" the fire|strong="G4442".
10 And|strong="G2532" the people|strong="G3793" asked|strong="G1905" him|strong="G0846", saying|strong="G3004", What|strong="G5101" shall we do|strong="G4160" then|strong="G3767"?
11 He answereth|strong="G0611" and|strong="G1161" saith|strong="G3004" unto them|strong="G0846", He that hath|strong="G2192" two|strong="G1417" coats|strong="G5509", let him impart|strong="G3330" to him that hath|strong="G2192" none|strong="G3361"; and|strong="G2532" he that hath|strong="G2192" meat|strong="G1033", let him do|strong="G4160" likewise|strong="G3668".
12 Then|strong="G1161" came|strong="G2064" also|strong="G2532" publicans|strong="G5057" to be baptized|strong="G0907", and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G2036" unto|strong="G4314" him|strong="G0846", Master|strong="G1320", what|strong="G5101" shall we do|strong="G4160"?
13 And|strong="G1161" he said|strong="G2036" unto|strong="G4314" them|strong="G0846", Exact|strong="G4238" no|strong="G3367" more|strong="G4119" than|strong="G3844" that which is appointed|strong="G1299" you|strong="G5213".
14 And|strong="G1161" the soldiers|strong="G4754" likewise|strong="G2532" demanded|strong="G1905" of him|strong="G0846", saying|strong="G3004", And|strong="G2532" what|strong="G5101" shall|strong="G4160" we|strong="G2249" do|strong="G4160"? And|strong="G2532" he said|strong="G2036" unto|strong="G4314" them|strong="G0846", Do violence to|strong="G1286" no man|strong="G3367", neither|strong="G3366" accuse|strong="G4811" any falsely|strong="G4811"; and|strong="G2532" be content|strong="G0714" with|strong="G3800" your|strong="G5216" wages|strong="G3800".
15 And|strong="G1161" as the people|strong="G2992" were in expectation|strong="G4328", and|strong="G2532" all men|strong="G3956" mused|strong="G1260" in|strong="G1722" their|strong="G0846" hearts|strong="G2588" of|strong="G4012" John|strong="G2491", whether|strong="G3379" he|strong="G0846" were|strong="G1498" the Christ|strong="G5547", or not|strong="G3379";
16 John|strong="G2491" answered|strong="G0611", saying|strong="G3004" unto|strong="G0537" them all|strong="G0537", I|strong="G1473" indeed|strong="G3303" baptize|strong="G0907" you|strong="G5209" with water|strong="G5204"; but|strong="G1161" one mightier than|strong="G2478" I|strong="G3450" cometh|strong="G2064", the latchet|strong="G2438" of whose|strong="G3739" shoes|strong="G5266" I am|strong="G1510" not|strong="G3756" worthy|strong="G2425" to unloose|strong="G3089": he|strong="G0846" shall baptize|strong="G0907" you|strong="G5209" with|strong="G1722" the|strong="G4151" Holy|strong="G0040" Ghost|strong="G4151" and|strong="G2532" with fire|strong="G4442":
17 Whose|strong="G3739" fan|strong="G4425" is in|strong="G1722" his|strong="G0846" hand|strong="G5495", and|strong="G2532" he will throughly purge|strong="G1245" his|strong="G0846" floor|strong="G0257", and|strong="G2532" will gather|strong="G4863" the wheat|strong="G4621" into|strong="G1519" his|strong="G0846" garner|strong="G0596"; but|strong="G1161" the chaff|strong="G0892" he will burn|strong="G2618" with fire|strong="G4442" unquenchable|strong="G0762".
18 And|strong="G2532" many|strong="G4183" other things|strong="G2087" in his exhortation|strong="G3870" preached he|strong="G2097" unto the people|strong="G2992".
19 But|strong="G1161" Herod|strong="G2264" the tetrarch|strong="G5076", being reproved|strong="G1651" by|strong="G5259" him|strong="G0846" for|strong="G4012" Herodias|strong="G2266" his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080" Philip’s|strong="G5376" wife|strong="G1135", and|strong="G2532" for|strong="G4012" all|strong="G3956" the evils|strong="G4190" which|strong="G3739" Herod|strong="G2264" had done|strong="G4160",
20 Added|strong="G4369" yet|strong="G2532" this|strong="G5124" above|strong="G1909" all|strong="G3956", that|strong="G2532" he shut up|strong="G2623" John|strong="G2491" in|strong="G1722" prison|strong="G5438".
21 Now|strong="G1161" when|strong="G1722" all|strong="G0537" the people|strong="G2992" were baptized|strong="G0907", it came to pass|strong="G1096", that Jesus|strong="G2424" also|strong="G2532" being baptized|strong="G0907", and|strong="G2532" praying|strong="G4336", the heaven|strong="G3772" was opened|strong="G0455",
