Jeremias 4

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

If thou wilt return|strong="H7725", O Israel|strong="H3478", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, return|strong="H7725" unto me: and if thou wilt put away|strong="H5493" thine abominations|strong="H8251" out of my sight|strong="H6440", then shalt thou not remove|strong="H5110".

And thou shalt swear|strong="H7650", The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* liveth|strong="H2416", in truth|strong="H0571", in judgment|strong="H4941", and in righteousness|strong="H6666"; and the nations|strong="H1471" shall bless|strong="H1288" themselves in him, and in him shall they glory|strong="H1984".

For thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* to the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389", Break up|strong="H5214" your fallow ground|strong="H5215", and sow|strong="H2232" not among thorns|strong="H6975".

Circumcise|strong="H4135" yourselves to the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and take away|strong="H5493" the foreskins|strong="H6190" of your heart|strong="H3824", ye men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" and inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389": lest my fury|strong="H2534" come forth|strong="H3318" like fire|strong="H0784", and burn|strong="H1197" that none can quench|strong="H3518" it, because|strong="H6440" of the evil|strong="H7455" of your doings|strong="H4611".

Declare|strong="H5046" ye in Judah|strong="H3063", and publish|strong="H8085" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389"; and say|strong="H0559", Blow|strong="H8628" ye the trumpet|strong="H7782" in the land|strong="H0776": cry|strong="H7121", gather together|strong="H4390", and say|strong="H0559", Assemble|strong="H0622" yourselves, and let us go|strong="H0935" into the defenced|strong="H4013" cities|strong="H5892".

Set up|strong="H5375" the standard|strong="H5251" toward Zion|strong="H6726": retire|strong="H5756", stay|strong="H5975" not: for I will bring|strong="H0935" evil|strong="H7451" from the north|strong="H6828", and a great|strong="H1419" destruction|strong="H7667".

The lion|strong="H0738" is come up|strong="H5927" from his thicket|strong="H5441", and the destroyer|strong="H7843" of the Gentiles|strong="H1471" is on his way|strong="H5265"; he is gone forth|strong="H3318" from his place|strong="H4725" to make|strong="H7760" thy land|strong="H0776" desolate|strong="H8047"; and thy cities|strong="H5892" shall be laid waste|strong="H5327", without an inhabitant|strong="H3427".

For this gird|strong="H2296" you with sackcloth|strong="H8242", lament|strong="H5594" and howl|strong="H3213": for the fierce|strong="H2740" anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is not turned back|strong="H7725" from us.

And it shall come to pass at that day|strong="H3117", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that the heart|strong="H3820" of the king|strong="H4428" shall perish|strong="H0006", and the heart|strong="H3820" of the princes|strong="H8269"; and the priests|strong="H3548" shall be astonished|strong="H8074", and the prophets|strong="H5030" shall wonder|strong="H8539".

Then said|strong="H0559" I, Ah|strong="H0162", Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*! surely|strong="H0403" thou hast greatly|strong="H5377" deceived|strong="H5377" this people|strong="H5971" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389", saying|strong="H0559", Ye shall have peace|strong="H7965"; whereas the sword|strong="H2719" reacheth|strong="H5060" unto the soul|strong="H5315".

At that time|strong="H6256" shall it be said|strong="H0559" to this people|strong="H5971" and to Jerusalem|strong="H3389", A dry|strong="H6703" wind|strong="H7307" of the high places|strong="H8205" in the wilderness|strong="H4057" toward|strong="H1870" the daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971", not to fan|strong="H2219", nor to cleanse|strong="H1305",

Even a full|strong="H4392" wind|strong="H7307" from those places shall come|strong="H0935" unto me: now also will I give|strong="H1696" sentence|strong="H4941" against them.

Behold, he shall come up|strong="H5927" as clouds|strong="H6051", and his chariots|strong="H4818" shall be as a whirlwind|strong="H5492": his horses|strong="H5483" are swifter|strong="H7043" than eagles|strong="H5404". Woe|strong="H0188" unto us! for we are spoiled|strong="H7703".

O Jerusalem|strong="H3389", wash|strong="H3526" thine heart|strong="H3820" from wickedness|strong="H7451", that thou mayest be saved|strong="H3467". How long shall thy vain|strong="H0205" thoughts|strong="H4284" lodge|strong="H3885" within|strong="H7130" thee?

For a voice|strong="H6963" declareth|strong="H5046" from Dan|strong="H1835", and publisheth|strong="H8085" affliction|strong="H0205" from mount|strong="H2022" Ephraim|strong="H0669".

Make ye mention|strong="H2142" to the nations|strong="H1471"; behold, publish|strong="H8085" against Jerusalem|strong="H3389", that watchers|strong="H5341" come|strong="H0935" from a far|strong="H4801" country|strong="H0776", and give out|strong="H5414" their voice|strong="H6963" against the cities|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063".

As keepers|strong="H8104" of a field|strong="H7704", are they against her round about|strong="H5439"; because she hath been rebellious|strong="H4784" against me, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Thy way|strong="H1870" and thy doings|strong="H4611" have procured|strong="H6213" these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness|strong="H7451", because it is bitter|strong="H4751", because it reacheth|strong="H5060" unto thine heart|strong="H3820".

My bowels|strong="H4578", my bowels|strong="H4578"! I am pained|strong="H2342" at my very|strong="H7023" heart|strong="H3820"; my heart|strong="H3820" maketh a noise|strong="H1993" in me; I cannot hold my peace|strong="H2790", because thou hast heard|strong="H8085", O my soul|strong="H5315", the sound|strong="H6963" of the trumpet|strong="H7782", the alarm|strong="H8643" of war|strong="H4421".

Destruction|strong="H7667" upon destruction|strong="H7667" is cried|strong="H7121"; for the whole land|strong="H0776" is spoiled|strong="H7703": suddenly|strong="H6597" are my tents|strong="H0168" spoiled|strong="H7703", and my curtains|strong="H3407" in a moment|strong="H7281".

How long shall I see|strong="H7200" the standard|strong="H5251", and hear|strong="H8085" the sound|strong="H6963" of the trumpet|strong="H7782"?

For my people|strong="H5971" is foolish|strong="H0191", they have not known|strong="H3045" me; they are sottish|strong="H5530" children|strong="H1121", and they have none understanding|strong="H0995": they are wise|strong="H2450" to do evil|strong="H7489", but to do good|strong="H3190" they have no knowledge|strong="H3045".

I beheld|strong="H7200" the earth|strong="H0776", and, lo, it was without form|strong="H8414", and void|strong="H0922"; and the heavens|strong="H8064", and they had no light|strong="H0216".

I beheld|strong="H7200" the mountains|strong="H2022", and, lo, they trembled|strong="H7493", and all the hills|strong="H1389" moved lightly|strong="H7043".

I beheld|strong="H7200", and, lo, there was no man|strong="H0120", and all the birds|strong="H5775" of the heavens|strong="H8064" were fled|strong="H5074".

I beheld|strong="H7200", and, lo, the fruitful place|strong="H3759" was a wilderness|strong="H4057", and all the cities|strong="H5892" thereof were broken down|strong="H5422" at the presence|strong="H6440" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and by his fierce|strong="H2740" anger|strong="H0639".

For thus hath the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559", The whole land|strong="H0776" shall be desolate|strong="H8077"; yet will I not make|strong="H6213" a full end|strong="H3617".

For this shall the earth|strong="H0776" mourn|strong="H0056", and the heavens|strong="H8064" above|strong="H4605" be black|strong="H6937": because I have spoken|strong="H1696" it, I have purposed|strong="H2161" it, and will not repent|strong="H5162", neither will I turn back|strong="H7725" from it.

The whole city|strong="H5892" shall flee|strong="H1272" for the noise|strong="H6963" of the horsemen|strong="H6571" and bowmen|strong="H7198"; they shall go|strong="H0935" into thickets|strong="H5645", and climb up|strong="H5927" upon the rocks|strong="H3710": every city|strong="H5892" shall be forsaken|strong="H5800", and not a man|strong="H0376" dwell|strong="H3427" therein|strong="H2004".

And when thou art spoiled|strong="H7703", what wilt thou do|strong="H6213"? Though thou clothest|strong="H3847" thyself with crimson|strong="H8144", though thou deckest|strong="H5710" thee with ornaments|strong="H5716" of gold|strong="H2091", though thou rentest|strong="H7167" thy face|strong="H5869" with painting|strong="H6320", in vain|strong="H7723" shalt thou make thyself fair|strong="H3302"; thy lovers|strong="H5689" will despise|strong="H3988" thee, they will seek|strong="H1245" thy life|strong="H5315".

For I have heard|strong="H8085" a voice|strong="H6963" as of a woman in travail|strong="H2470", and the anguish|strong="H6869" as of her that bringeth forth her first child|strong="H1069", the voice|strong="H6963" of the daughter|strong="H1323" of Zion|strong="H6726", that bewaileth|strong="H3306" herself, that spreadeth|strong="H6566" her hands|strong="H3709", saying, Woe|strong="H0188" is me now! for my soul|strong="H5315" is wearied|strong="H5888" because of murderers|strong="H2026".
