1 The word|strong="H1697" which came unto Jeremiah|strong="H3414" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in the days|strong="H3117" of Jehoiakim|strong="H3079" the son|strong="H1121" of Josiah|strong="H2977" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559",
2 Go|strong="H1980" unto the house|strong="H1004" of the Rechabites|strong="H7397", and speak|strong="H1696" unto them, and bring|strong="H0935" them into the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, into one|strong="H0259" of the chambers|strong="H3957", and give them wine|strong="H3196" to drink|strong="H8248".
3 Then I took|strong="H3947" Jaazaniah|strong="H2970" the son|strong="H1121" of Jeremiah|strong="H3414", the son|strong="H1121" of Habaziniah|strong="H2262", and his brethren|strong="H0251", and all his sons|strong="H1121", and the whole house|strong="H1004" of the Rechabites|strong="H7397";
4 And I brought|strong="H0935" them into the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, into the chamber|strong="H3957" of the sons|strong="H1121" of Hanan|strong="H2605", the son|strong="H1121" of Igdaliah|strong="H3012", a man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", which was by|strong="H0681" the chamber|strong="H3957" of the princes|strong="H8269", which was above|strong="H4605" the chamber|strong="H3957" of Maaseiah|strong="H4641" the son|strong="H1121" of Shallum|strong="H7967", the keeper|strong="H8104" of the door|strong="H5592":
5 And I set|strong="H5414" before|strong="H6440" the sons|strong="H1121" of the house|strong="H1004" of the Rechabites|strong="H7397" pots|strong="H1375" full|strong="H4392" of wine|strong="H3196", and cups|strong="H3563", and I said|strong="H0559" unto them, Drink|strong="H8354" ye wine|strong="H3196".
6 But they said|strong="H0559", We will drink|strong="H8354" no wine|strong="H3196": for Jonadab|strong="H3122" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394" our father|strong="H0001" commanded|strong="H6680" us, saying|strong="H0559", Ye shall drink|strong="H8354" no wine|strong="H3196", neither ye, nor your sons|strong="H1121" for|strong="H5704" ever|strong="H5769":
7 Neither shall ye build|strong="H1129" house|strong="H1004", nor sow|strong="H2232" seed|strong="H2233", nor plant|strong="H5193" vineyard|strong="H3754", nor have any: but all your days|strong="H3117" ye shall dwell|strong="H3427" in tents|strong="H0168"; that ye may live|strong="H2421" many|strong="H7227" days|strong="H3117" in|strong="H6440" the land|strong="H0127" where ye be strangers|strong="H1481".
8 Thus have we obeyed|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of Jonadab|strong="H3082" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394" our father|strong="H0001" in all that he hath charged|strong="H6680" us, to drink|strong="H8354" no wine|strong="H3196" all our days|strong="H3117", we, our wives|strong="H0802", our sons|strong="H1121", nor our daughters|strong="H1323";
9 Nor to build|strong="H1129" houses|strong="H1004" for us to dwell in|strong="H3427": neither have we vineyard|strong="H3754", nor field|strong="H7704", nor seed|strong="H2233":
10 But we have dwelt in|strong="H3427" tents|strong="H0168", and have obeyed|strong="H8085", and done|strong="H6213" according to all that Jonadab|strong="H3122" our father|strong="H0001" commanded|strong="H6680" us.
11 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar|strong="H5019" king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" came up|strong="H5927" into the land|strong="H0776", that we said|strong="H0559", Come|strong="H0935", and let us go|strong="H0935" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389" for fear|strong="H6440" of the army|strong="H2428" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3778", and for fear|strong="H6440" of the army|strong="H2428" of the Syrians|strong="H0758": so we dwell|strong="H3427" at Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
12 Then came the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto Jeremiah|strong="H3414", saying|strong="H0559",
13 Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Go|strong="H1980" and tell|strong="H0559" the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" and the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", Will ye not receive|strong="H3947" instruction|strong="H4148" to hearken|strong="H8085" to my words|strong="H1697"? saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
14 The words|strong="H1697" of Jonadab|strong="H3082" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394", that he commanded|strong="H6680" his sons|strong="H1121" not to drink|strong="H8354" wine|strong="H3196", are performed|strong="H6965"; for unto this day|strong="H3117" they drink|strong="H8354" none, but obey|strong="H8085" their father’s|strong="H0001" commandment|strong="H4687": notwithstanding I have spoken|strong="H1696" unto you, rising early|strong="H7925" and speaking|strong="H1696"; but ye hearkened|strong="H8085" not unto me.
15 I have sent|strong="H7971" also unto you all my servants|strong="H5650" the prophets|strong="H5030", rising up early|strong="H7925" and sending|strong="H7971" them, saying|strong="H0559", Return|strong="H7725" ye now every man|strong="H0376" from his evil|strong="H7451" way|strong="H1870", and amend|strong="H3190" your doings|strong="H4611", and go|strong="H3212" not after|strong="H0310" other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430" to serve|strong="H5647" them, and ye shall dwell in|strong="H3427" the land|strong="H0127" which I have given|strong="H5414" to you and to your fathers|strong="H0001": but ye have not inclined|strong="H5186" your ear|strong="H0241", nor hearkened|strong="H8085" unto me.
16 Because the sons|strong="H1121" of Jonadab|strong="H3082" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394" have performed|strong="H6965" the commandment|strong="H4687" of their father|strong="H0001", which he commanded|strong="H6680" them; but this people|strong="H5971" hath not hearkened|strong="H8085" unto me:
17 Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of hosts|strong="H6635", the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Behold, I will bring|strong="H0935" upon Judah|strong="H3063" and upon all the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" all the evil|strong="H7451" that I have pronounced|strong="H1696" against them: because I have spoken|strong="H1696" unto them, but they have not heard|strong="H8085"; and I have called|strong="H7121" unto them, but they have not answered|strong="H6030".
18 And Jeremiah|strong="H3414" said|strong="H0559" unto the house|strong="H1004" of the Rechabites|strong="H7397", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Because ye have obeyed|strong="H8085" the commandment|strong="H4687" of Jonadab|strong="H3082" your father|strong="H0001", and kept|strong="H8104" all his precepts|strong="H4687", and done|strong="H6213" according unto all that he hath commanded|strong="H6680" you:
19 Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Jonadab|strong="H3122" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394" shall not want|strong="H3772" a man|strong="H0376" to stand|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" me for ever|strong="H3117".
