Jeremias 26

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

In the beginning|strong="H7225" of the reign|strong="H4468" of Jehoiakim|strong="H3079" the son|strong="H1121" of Josiah|strong="H2977" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" came this word|strong="H1697" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559",

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Stand|strong="H5975" in the court|strong="H2691" of the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* house|strong="H1004", and speak|strong="H1696" unto all the cities|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063", which come|strong="H0935" to worship|strong="H7812" in the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* house|strong="H1004", all the words|strong="H1697" that I command|strong="H6680" thee to speak|strong="H1696" unto them; diminish|strong="H1639" not a word|strong="H1697":

If so be they will hearken|strong="H8085", and turn|strong="H7725" every man|strong="H0376" from his evil|strong="H7451" way|strong="H1870", that I may repent|strong="H5162" me of the evil|strong="H7451", which I purpose|strong="H2803" to do|strong="H6213" unto them because|strong="H6440" of the evil|strong="H7455" of their doings|strong="H4611".

And thou shalt say|strong="H0559" unto them, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; If ye will not hearken|strong="H8085" to me, to walk|strong="H3212" in my law|strong="H8451", which I have set|strong="H5414" before|strong="H6440" you,

To hearken|strong="H8085" to the words|strong="H1697" of my servants|strong="H5650" the prophets|strong="H5030", whom I sent|strong="H7971" unto you, both rising up early|strong="H7925", and sending|strong="H7971" them, but ye have not hearkened|strong="H8085";

Then will I make|strong="H5414" this house|strong="H1004" like Shiloh|strong="H7887", and will make|strong="H5414" this city|strong="H5892" a curse|strong="H7045" to all the nations|strong="H1471" of the earth|strong="H0776".

So the priests|strong="H3548" and the prophets|strong="H5030" and all the people|strong="H5971" heard|strong="H8085" Jeremiah|strong="H3414" speaking|strong="H1696" these words|strong="H1697" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah|strong="H3414" had made an end|strong="H3615" of speaking|strong="H1696" all that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had commanded|strong="H6680" him to speak|strong="H1696" unto all the people|strong="H5971", that the priests|strong="H3548" and the prophets|strong="H5030" and all the people|strong="H5971" took|strong="H8610" him, saying|strong="H0559", Thou shalt surely|strong="H4191" die|strong="H4191".

Why hast thou prophesied|strong="H5012" in the name|strong="H8034" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", This house|strong="H1004" shall be like Shiloh|strong="H7887", and this city|strong="H5892" shall be desolate|strong="H2717" without an inhabitant|strong="H3427"? And all the people|strong="H5971" were gathered|strong="H6950" against Jeremiah|strong="H3414" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

When the princes|strong="H8269" of Judah|strong="H3063" heard|strong="H8085" these things|strong="H1697", then they came up|strong="H5927" from the king’s|strong="H4428" house|strong="H1004" unto the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and sat down|strong="H3427" in the entry|strong="H6607" of the new|strong="H2319" gate|strong="H8179" of the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* house.

Then spake|strong="H0559" the priests|strong="H3548" and the prophets|strong="H5030" unto the princes|strong="H8269" and to all the people|strong="H5971", saying|strong="H0559", This man|strong="H0376" is worthy|strong="H4941" to die|strong="H4194"; for he hath prophesied|strong="H5012" against this city|strong="H5892", as ye have heard|strong="H8085" with your ears|strong="H0241".

Then spake|strong="H0559" Jeremiah|strong="H3414" unto all the princes|strong="H8269" and to all the people|strong="H5971", saying|strong="H0559", The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H7971" me to prophesy|strong="H5012" against this house|strong="H1004" and against this city|strong="H5892" all the words|strong="H1697" that ye have heard|strong="H8085".

Therefore now amend|strong="H3190" your ways|strong="H1870" and your doings|strong="H4611", and obey|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430"; and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* will repent|strong="H5162" him of the evil|strong="H7451" that he hath pronounced|strong="H1696" against you.

As for me, behold, I am in your hand|strong="H3027": do|strong="H6213" with me as seemeth|strong="H5869" good|strong="H2896" and meet|strong="H3477" unto you.

But know|strong="H3045" ye for certain|strong="H3045", that if ye put me to death|strong="H4191", ye shall surely bring|strong="H5414" innocent|strong="H5355" blood|strong="H1818" upon yourselves, and upon this city|strong="H5892", and upon the inhabitants|strong="H3427" thereof: for of a truth|strong="H0571" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath sent|strong="H7971" me unto you to speak|strong="H1696" all these words|strong="H1697" in your ears|strong="H0241".

Then said|strong="H0559" the princes|strong="H8269" and all the people|strong="H5971" unto the priests|strong="H3548" and to the prophets|strong="H5030"; This man|strong="H0376" is not worthy|strong="H4941" to die|strong="H4194": for he hath spoken|strong="H1696" to us in the name|strong="H8034" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430".

Then rose up|strong="H6965" certain|strong="H0582" of the elders|strong="H2205" of the land|strong="H0776", and spake|strong="H0559" to all the assembly|strong="H6951" of the people|strong="H5971", saying|strong="H0559",

Micah|strong="H4320" the Morasthite|strong="H4183" prophesied|strong="H5012" in the days|strong="H3117" of Hezekiah|strong="H2396" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", and spake|strong="H0559" to all the people|strong="H5971" of Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635"; Zion|strong="H6726" shall be plowed|strong="H2790" like a field|strong="H7704", and Jerusalem|strong="H3389" shall become heaps|strong="H5856", and the mountain|strong="H2022" of the house|strong="H1004" as the high places|strong="H1116" of a forest|strong="H3293".

Did Hezekiah|strong="H2396" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" and all Judah|strong="H3063" put him at all|strong="H4191" to death|strong="H4191"? did he not fear|strong="H3373" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and besought|strong="H2470" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* repented|strong="H5162" him of the evil|strong="H7451" which he had pronounced|strong="H1696" against them? Thus|strong="H0587" might we procure|strong="H6213" great|strong="H1419" evil|strong="H7451" against our souls|strong="H5315".

And there was also a man|strong="H0376" that prophesied|strong="H5012" in the name|strong="H8034" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Urijah|strong="H0223" the son|strong="H1121" of Shemaiah|strong="H8098" of Kirjath-jearim|strong="H7157", who prophesied|strong="H5012" against this city|strong="H5892" and against this land|strong="H0776" according to all the words|strong="H1697" of Jeremiah|strong="H3414":

And when Jehoiakim|strong="H3079" the king|strong="H4428", with all his mighty men|strong="H1368", and all the princes|strong="H8269", heard|strong="H8085" his words|strong="H1697", the king|strong="H4428" sought|strong="H1245" to put him to death|strong="H4191": but when Urijah|strong="H0223" heard|strong="H8085" it, he was afraid|strong="H3372", and fled|strong="H1272", and went|strong="H0935" into Egypt|strong="H4714";

And Jehoiakim|strong="H3079" the king|strong="H4428" sent|strong="H7971" men|strong="H0582" into Egypt|strong="H4714", namely, Elnathan|strong="H0494" the son|strong="H1121" of Achbor|strong="H5907", and certain men|strong="H0582" with him into Egypt|strong="H4714".

And they fetched forth|strong="H3318" Urijah|strong="H0223" out of Egypt|strong="H4714", and brought|strong="H0935" him unto Jehoiakim|strong="H3079" the king|strong="H4428"; who slew|strong="H5221" him with the sword|strong="H2719", and cast|strong="H7993" his dead body|strong="H5038" into the graves|strong="H6913" of the common|strong="H1121" people|strong="H5971".

Nevertheless the hand|strong="H3027" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphan|strong="H8227" was with Jeremiah|strong="H3414", that they should not give|strong="H5414" him into the hand|strong="H3027" of the people|strong="H5971" to put him to death|strong="H4191".
