And Jacob|strong="H3290" went|strong="H1980" on his way|strong="H1870", and the angels|strong="H4397" of God|strong="H0430" met|strong="H6293" him.
And when Jacob|strong="H3290" saw them|strong="H7200", he said|strong="H0559", This is God’s|strong="H0430" host|strong="H4264": and he called|strong="H7121" the name|strong="H8034" of that place|strong="H4725" Mahanaim|strong="H4266".
And Jacob|strong="H3290" sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" before him|strong="H6440" to Esau|strong="H6215" his brother|strong="H0251" unto the land|strong="H0776" of Seir|strong="H8165", the country|strong="H7704" of Edom|strong="H0123".
And he commanded|strong="H6680" them, saying|strong="H0559", Thus shall ye speak|strong="H0559" unto my lord|strong="H0113" Esau|strong="H6215"; Thy servant|strong="H5650" Jacob|strong="H3290" saith|strong="H0559" thus, I have sojourned|strong="H1481" with Laban|strong="H3837", and stayed there|strong="H0309" until now:
And I have oxen|strong="H7794", and asses|strong="H2543", flocks|strong="H6629", and menservants|strong="H5650", and womenservants|strong="H8198": and I have sent|strong="H7971" to tell|strong="H5046" my lord|strong="H0113", that I may find|strong="H4672" grace|strong="H2580" in thy sight|strong="H5869".
And the messengers|strong="H4397" returned|strong="H7725" to Jacob|strong="H3290", saying|strong="H0559", We came|strong="H0935" to thy brother|strong="H0251" Esau|strong="H6215", and also he cometh|strong="H1980" to meet thee|strong="H7125", and four hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" with him.
Then Jacob|strong="H3290" was greatly|strong="H3966" afraid|strong="H3372" and distressed|strong="H3334": and he divided|strong="H2673" the people|strong="H5971" that was with him, and the flocks|strong="H6629", and herds|strong="H1241", and the camels|strong="H1581", into two|strong="H8147" bands|strong="H4264";
And said|strong="H0559", If Esau|strong="H6215" come|strong="H0935" to the one|strong="H0259" company|strong="H4264", and smite it|strong="H5221", then the other company|strong="H4264" which is left|strong="H7604" shall escape|strong="H6413".
And Jacob|strong="H3290" said|strong="H0559", O God|strong="H0430" of my father|strong="H0001" Abraham|strong="H0085", and God|strong="H0430" of my father|strong="H0001" Isaac|strong="H3327", the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* which saidst|strong="H0559" unto me, Return|strong="H7725" unto thy country|strong="H0776", and to thy kindred|strong="H4138", and I will deal well|strong="H3190" with thee:
I am not worthy of the least|strong="H6994" of all the mercies|strong="H2617", and of all the truth|strong="H0571", which thou hast shewed|strong="H6213" unto thy servant|strong="H5650"; for with my staff|strong="H4731" I passed over|strong="H5674" this Jordan|strong="H3383"; and now I am become two|strong="H8147" bands|strong="H4264".
Deliver me|strong="H5337", I pray thee, from the hand|strong="H3027" of my brother|strong="H0251", from the hand|strong="H3027" of Esau|strong="H6215": for I fear|strong="H3373" him, lest he will come|strong="H0935" and smite me|strong="H5221", and the mother|strong="H0517" with|strong="H5921" the children|strong="H1121".
And thou saidst|strong="H0559", I will surely|strong="H3190" do thee good|strong="H3190", and make|strong="H7760" thy seed|strong="H2233" as the sand|strong="H2344" of the sea|strong="H3220", which cannot be numbered|strong="H5608" for multitude|strong="H7230".
And he lodged|strong="H3885" there that same night|strong="H3915"; and took|strong="H3947" of that which came|strong="H0935" to his hand|strong="H3027" a present|strong="H4503" for Esau|strong="H6215" his brother|strong="H0251";
Two hundred|strong="H3967" she goats|strong="H5795", and twenty|strong="H6242" he goats|strong="H8495", two hundred|strong="H3967" ewes|strong="H7353", and twenty|strong="H6242" rams|strong="H0352",
Thirty|strong="H7970" milch|strong="H3243" camels|strong="H1581" with their colts|strong="H1121", forty|strong="H0705" kine|strong="H6510", and ten|strong="H6235" bulls|strong="H6499", twenty|strong="H6242" she asses|strong="H0860", and ten|strong="H6235" foals|strong="H5895".
And he delivered|strong="H5414" them into the hand|strong="H3027" of his servants|strong="H5650", every drove|strong="H5739" by themselves; and said|strong="H0559" unto his servants|strong="H5650", Pass over|strong="H5674" before me|strong="H6440", and put|strong="H7760" a space|strong="H7305" betwixt|strong="H0996" drove|strong="H5739" and|strong="H0996" drove|strong="H5739".
And he commanded|strong="H6680" the foremost|strong="H7223", saying|strong="H0559", When Esau|strong="H6215" my brother|strong="H0251" meeteth thee|strong="H6298", and asketh thee|strong="H7592", saying|strong="H0559", Whose art thou? and whither goest|strong="H3212" thou? and whose are these before|strong="H6440" thee?
Then thou shalt say|strong="H0559", They be thy servant|strong="H5650" Jacob’s|strong="H3290"; it is a present|strong="H4503" sent|strong="H7971" unto my lord|strong="H0113" Esau|strong="H6215": and, behold, also he is behind us|strong="H0310".
And so|strong="H1571" commanded he|strong="H6680" the second|strong="H8145", and the third|strong="H7992", and all that followed|strong="H1980" the droves|strong="H5739", saying|strong="H0559", On this manner|strong="H1697" shall ye speak|strong="H1696" unto Esau|strong="H6215", when ye find|strong="H4672" him.
And say ye|strong="H0559" moreover|strong="H1571", Behold, thy servant|strong="H5650" Jacob|strong="H3290" is behind us|strong="H0310". For he said|strong="H0559", I will appease|strong="H3722" him|strong="H6440" with the present|strong="H4503" that goeth|strong="H1980" before me|strong="H6440", and afterward|strong="H0310" I will see|strong="H7200" his face|strong="H6440"; peradventure he will accept|strong="H5375" of me|strong="H6440".
So went|strong="H5674" the present|strong="H4503" over|strong="H5674" before him|strong="H6440": and himself lodged|strong="H3885" that night|strong="H3915" in the company|strong="H4264".
And he rose up|strong="H6965" that night|strong="H3915", and took|strong="H3947" his two|strong="H8147" wives|strong="H0802", and his two|strong="H8147" womenservants|strong="H8198", and his eleven|strong="H6240" sons|strong="H3206", and passed over|strong="H5674" the ford|strong="H4569" Jabbok|strong="H2999".
And he took them|strong="H3947", and sent them over|strong="H5674" the brook|strong="H5158", and sent over|strong="H5674" that he had.
And Jacob|strong="H3290" was left|strong="H3498" alone; and there wrestled|strong="H0079" a man|strong="H0376" with him until the breaking|strong="H5927" of the day|strong="H7837".
And when he saw|strong="H7200" that he prevailed|strong="H3201" not against him, he touched|strong="H5060" the hollow of his thigh|strong="H3409"; and the hollow|strong="H3709" of Jacob’s|strong="H3290" thigh|strong="H3409" was out of joint|strong="H3363", as he wrestled|strong="H0079" with him.
And he said|strong="H0559", Let me go|strong="H7971", for the day|strong="H7837" breaketh|strong="H5927". And he said|strong="H0559", I will not let thee go|strong="H7971", except|strong="H0518" thou bless|strong="H1288" me.
And he said|strong="H0559" unto him, What is thy name|strong="H8034"? And he said|strong="H0559", Jacob|strong="H3290".
And he said|strong="H0559", Thy name|strong="H8034" shall be called|strong="H0559" no more Jacob|strong="H3290", but Israel|strong="H3478": for as a prince hast thou power|strong="H8280" with God|strong="H0430" and with men|strong="H0582", and hast prevailed|strong="H3201".
And Jacob|strong="H3290" asked|strong="H7592" him, and said|strong="H0559", Tell|strong="H5046" me, I pray thee, thy name|strong="H8034". And he said|strong="H0559", Wherefore is it|strong="H2088" that thou dost ask|strong="H7592" after my name|strong="H8034"? And he blessed|strong="H1288" him there.
And Jacob|strong="H3290" called|strong="H7121" the name|strong="H8034" of the place|strong="H4725" Peniel|strong="H6439": for I have seen|strong="H7200" God|strong="H0430" face|strong="H6440" to face|strong="H6440", and my life|strong="H5315" is preserved|strong="H5337".
And as he passed over|strong="H5674" Penuel|strong="H6439" the sun|strong="H8121" rose|strong="H2224" upon him, and he halted|strong="H6760" upon his thigh|strong="H3409".
Therefore the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" eat|strong="H0398" not of the sinew|strong="H1517" which shrank|strong="H5384", which is upon the hollow|strong="H3709" of the thigh|strong="H3409", unto this day|strong="H3117": because he touched|strong="H5060" the hollow|strong="H3709" of Jacob’s|strong="H3290" thigh|strong="H3409" in the sinew|strong="H1517" that shrank|strong="H5384".
